rawcatslyentist: Scopolamine patches are worn by space travelers to prevent space sickness.

Misterioso: From my experience, they don't always work.

Okay, Best Intriguing Freeper Post of 2012 Award.

It grows wild pretty much everywhere.

I don’t think the ‘Devil’s Breath’ in the story and Angel Trumpits here could be the same thing.
If you read the story, they had to go to South America to investigate the plant.

There was recently an episode of ‘Criminal Intent’ that involved a serial killer who used this drug on victims. The bad guy dumped some white powder on a tray (I was just figuring it was cocaine) and then blew it into his victims face. Then he instructed the guy to kill his own son, who was also a captive. This all happened on the bad guy’s fishing boat.

It would be interesting if certain political figures were made to tell the truth.

Blow that into lines of voters on November 6 and Ø will win by a landslide.

Not if we do it first. JUST KIDDING!

The Devil's Breath is the concoction containing scopolamine, which is also contained in any number of the solanaceae family, toxic varieties of which grow pretty much everywhere.

Brugmansia is the plant used in Colombia and Datura is the plant supposedly consumed by Carlos Castenda in Mexico. The two are closely related members of the solanaceae family and both are known as Angel's Trumpet.

The Colombians may be misusing it but the reporters could probably have gone just about anywhere to locate a source of scopolamine. I know a couple guys who tried some wild Jimson weed they found around their camp site in Southern California back in the 70s.

Oh, ok. Wow.
Glad I never picked any of those flowers. (they are so beautiful) They shouldn’t have those things growing around public places. Children don’t know they’re dangerous.

I live near the beach here, and there have been more than a few tourists who have poisoned themselves by using oleander branches (oleander bushes are everywhere along the beaches)to spear hot dogs to roast.

They’re not a problem unless you actually consume them. A lot of common plants are toxic. Probably the worst and most common is oleander. It is TOXIC. I’ve been told to wear gloves when handling it.

I read all his books in the 70s before I had an encounter with Jesus. It was all sorcery.

I hack down my neighbor’s oleander bushes twice a year (27 years now) and have never had any problems. The plants exude a milky white sap when cut, like Milkweed. They are just indestructible.

Dumb me, I remember when I was a kid and once picking some oleander blossoms- and then somebody told me they were poisonous and to wash my hands.
It’s amazing more children aren’t poisoned by plants.
They’re drawn to flowers and putting things in their mouth.

I’m just dumbfounded that that apt. complex here would allow those Angels Trumpets to grow on its grounds. Lots of children live there.

(By the way, there is a movie called ‘White Oleander’ about a woman who used them to poison her husband. Good movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283139/)

Well, at least I didn’t use the brances to spear hotdogs like some of our tourists along our beaches.
They’re so dangerous I don’t know why they don’t cut them all down.

By the way the city where I live, is just full of oleander. There are everywhere you look. Businesses, residences- everywhere, because they are pretty, make good screens and so hardy they will thrive anywhere. poor soil, scanty rainfall- not a problem.

Really? I’ve got to try some of those. I have spots on my property where I can’t even get cactus to grow.
