Mitt Romney: Mormon Candidate at Baptist Liberty University Moves Catholic Editor
Catholic Online ^ | 5/14/12 | Keith A Fournier

Posted on 05/14/2012 9:41:32 AM PDT by tcg

...The fact that a Mormon, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, would be the commencement speaker at the Baptist University founded by Dr Jerry Falwell speaks to the urgency of the hour. Add to this the fact that this Catholic Editor in Chief of Catholic Online would consider the speech important enough to make it the lead article, and the point is made even clearer...

...The Romney candidacy raises a certain irony. Here we had a Mormon candidate who went to Liberty University and addressed a crowd which has major disagreement with his religious faith. However, it was this candidate who affirmed the fundamental moral values which inform the foundations of the American experiment in ordered liberty. He did so in a way which even made this Catholic Editor look twice at his candidacy.

I contend that I have more in common theologically with Liberty's Baptists as a Catholic Christian - though I am sure some present in Lynchburg on Saturday would disagree. However, Mitt Romney hit a home run in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday. That commencement address was not only a great speech, it also inspired me at an important moment.

...This Mormon candidate who spoke at that Baptist Liberty University is looking better and better to this Catholic citizen as the fall Presidential race approaches. The future of the American experiment in ordered liberty is at risk.We do indeed share common values which are essential for our future as a free people. Mitt Romney is correct, "we can meet in service, in shared moral convictions about our nation stemming from a common worldview."

At least those groups don’t worship multiple gods as mormonism does. In all my long years I have never heard a Protestant call Catholicism a cult, lots of differences but the basic eternal God, the Cross and Reserection are the same, not even close with mormonism.

The very foundation is blasphemy. A created christ, a god(s) who were once a man, Joseph Smith being greater than Jesus Christ, working for ones own salvation the removal of God’s Grace, earning ones own god hood, the lds once was a man having sexual intercourse with Mary.. and more.
You really need to learn about mormonism.
Romney is who he is because of his mormonism not in spite of it.

Fear and ignorance is the rule of the day.

Christians are now reduced to putting lipstick on their motivations for supporting this self proclaimed Progressive heading a Republican ticket, but it doesn’t really change the fact.

Do we understand what a Progressive is? It’s the Progressive Black Caucas, it’s Hillary Clinton, it’s Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, etc. These are people who are but a knotch under being communists and some are among the communist party, according to the communist party.

Conservatives and the religious Right have been boxed in, and apparently are willing to stay there, trusting what they see over their own conscience and the unseen.

Most all Christians are taught that there is no temptation wherein God does not supply an “out”.

If this should be God’s test, we’re failing it. In spades.

If the word “cult” is defined by a group of like minded individuals gathered around some singular article of faith or opinion, then the word has lots its punch.

In the post Christian era of the USA, we have been divided into many cults—even cult movie viewers, so the word doesn’t carry the punch of insult it use to carry.

Romney is a liberal. Romney is a mormon. Romney is who he is because he is a mormon, not in spite of it Those aspects of his life can not be sepetated from each other.

It moves me, too. To throw up.

I watched my local news coverage of the speech, and sadly, though some of the students protested Romney, the people there just ate it up in blissful ignorance. One student said, “Oh, I had no idea he was so religious!”

We had been considering attending Thomas Road Baptist Church, which is the church affiliated with LU. But after those people brought Romney on board to speak two days after he said it was the right of homosexuals to adopt children——forget it.

"People of different faiths, like yours and mine, sometimes wonder where we can meet in common purpose, when there are so many differences in creed and theology. Surely the answer is that we can meet in service, in shared moral convictions about our nation stemming from a common worldview."

He's not right until definitions are understood. Though deferring faiths might use the same verbiage...their definition of meaning can be off the map entirely.

As an example: When Muslims use the word "Peace" they understand Peace as ONLY thru Islam and outside of Islam there can be no Peace.

Romney's a globalist and as the appointed GOP baby he is very much on board with uniting the faiths on an International Level....of course this is for the revenues they can generate, and because people will not get on board with a One World System without faith matters being involved.

Since the Mormon Organization mingles heavily with Muslims, and Muslims see Mormons as closest to their own beliefs, it has been said Romney would be "the one" to garner peace between the religions

Of course since Mormonism is not mainline Christianity by any means, and by definition a cult counterfeiting Christianity and with an Impostor Christ, it is an easy thing for Romney to desire "Peace" between the faiths...thus giving credit to Mormonism, which mainstream Christianity has refused and rejected as Christian since Mormonssit's inception....and that because it was not, is not now, nor can it be Christian any more than ME faiths can be considered Christian.

the people there just ate it up in blissful ignorance

Romney's Pipe Piping the Globalist Unity tune and he's hitting every note!

They eat it up because they would not accept the truth, therefore God permits strong delusion to occupy their minds... so that they believe a lie rather than the truth... prefer false apostles and their erroneous doctrines to the pure truths of the Gospel.... being ready to receive any false Messiah, while they systematically and virulently reject the true one.

For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that.... 'they will believe the lie'...2 Thess.2:11 '

I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,'...1 Kings 22:22

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.....2Tim4:4

People are left to believe impostors.... to trust in false guides... to rely on unfounded information.... to credit those who live to delude and betray the innocent.... and to follow those who lead them to ruin.

Jesus said this would come...and here it has begun from the mouth of a Presidential Candidate of the USA!

We are sooo lost in this country.

forgive, and limit, do not forget or ignore.

We must be sure that Mitt is unable to effect policy in that rea both politically and practically, by limiting the power of his position, and the disposition of his congress.

The presidency and congress must be dramatically weakens. The battle to reclaim our rights only begins after the election.

Our congressmen, Governors, and State legislators must be reminded of that fact. They like all of us will be judged for what THEY do not what Mitt does. Their loyalty must be to our liberty.

Fear and ignorance is the rule of the day.

Great truth in that simple statement Rita...and that is where this nation is. Fear has torment and the people are so afraid of Obama, (a man), that cannot see whose torch Romney is carrying.

This is one of the most critical primaries we ever faced, and people knew this during the primaries, and yet most are still playing "voter" in a sandbox with outher like minds, completely unaware and or closing their minds to the very real danger in Romney.

All beginning to look like the middle ages, dark times ahead....different clothes, same tunes.

"I have Protestant friends who claim Catholicism is a cult. Name-calling isn't helpful."

No, name-calling isn't, but laying out facts is.

I'm not Catholic. But comparing Catholicism and Mormonism doesn't work. Catholicism is Christian; Mormonism is not.

Ooo, lookee. Another sanctimonious gatekeeper of Christianity. So sorry the details of Romney’s Christ don’t match up with yours. I wonder how far away from yours one has to get before you deny them fellowship with Him. Disgusting.

You’re right. It occurred to me as I was watching that news coverage: if those Bible-educated kids can’t see through Romney, the country is really lost.

Well, the Catholic Church wouldn't use the word "cult" for Mormonism. It would use the word "heresy."

We always reserved the term "cult" for those damned turncoat Lutherans who started that whole Reformation mess in the first place! ;)

If I am forced to chose between a muslim and a mormon to be president.......I’m going with mormon.

Noting your words.."going with"..same as agreeing with. Why would any agree with either as both defy all that is Christian.... Romney conceals his because he's spent a lifetime fine-tuning deception in such a way that people believe what they see and hear...even though they know he's a huge liar....and we all know who 'the Father of Lies is'.

Both are equally bad for this country....neither has this country's people at heart, nor are their motives for us.

If Obama wins we muddle through for another four, but have another shot in four years for a true conservative. If Romney wins, the dramatic 'change of course' needed to save this country will not occur for at least the next eight years....if ever.

.mormonism does not match God’s Word. It has nothing to do with me. I do have an idea, tell me which of my statements about mormonism are incorrect.

I don’t recall the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth a mere two years ago when Glenn Beck, also a Mormon, gave the Commencement address at the very same Liberty University.

So, his religion is heresy.

Now, Mormons also have a strong sense of family and community, they successfully practice capitalism, they tithe, they must do community service, they must plan for famine and times of need, and they have great respect for the founding documents of this country.

So, we must decide between a “heretic” with those aforementioned attributes, or a superficial “christian” who believes in black liberation theology, marxism, abortion, who actively disrespects our founding documents, and who is currently curtailing our freedom of religion.

Nobody said this would be easy.

if those Bible-educated kids can’t see through Romney, the country is really lost.

Well it's not so much seeing through Romney as it is knowing the real thing. There are many "bible-educated" adults who do not know Christ...... But for kids our secular educational system has so indoctrinated these kids with a liberal mindset, before they even get into BiBle Colleges, that once there it's about de-programming them from liberalism which if they are without Christ won't hardly scratch the surface.

I watched as the educational system my son had to transfer to to pick up the courses he needed, affect him. At one point he said he felt like he was in a foreign country because of the Instructors so anti-American. You can imagine for him it was rough since he is military.

Still...we are more lost as a country than most dare to see....it's truly frightening when you do!

Can we be saved as the nation we've known? Well the fact Romney has the Primary should reveal to us that answer....the powers that be on both sides of the aisle are all on the same page IMO. And our guys that could stand, or should stand are not doing so.....it's now up to the people to oppose both of these candidates....and there are simply too few of us presently.
