NPR Caller: Gays Are a 'Race'

The liberal callers lined up to applaud President Obama's gay-marriage proclamation on Thursday's Talk of The Nation show, but one of them really stood out.

A gay man from San Francisco claimed "we are a race of people, not a type of person," and that is all Obama has to say to shut down any objections or debate: "this whole conversation ends."

NEAL CONAN, host: Let's see if we go next to - this is Tim. Tim with us from San Francisco.

TIM: Hey, thanks for taking my call. There is a part of the gay-lesbian-transgender conversation that is happening in San Francisco that's not happening on the radio with NPR or any other station. And there are many gays and lesbians and transgenders who believe that we are a race of people. And the way that we are a race of people, is we're distinctly different than any other race in the idea that we do not sexually identify as heterosexual. Now, if you take that idea of 10 percent of the population of the world, we equal 300 million people. That's the population of the United States.

And with that amount of people, we are a race of people, not a type of person. And I don't believe Barack Obama has gone far enough. All he has to do is say that the LBGT people are a race, and this whole conversation ends. We no longer have a difference between us and them. We are a race of people, and it needs to be addressed and it needs to be talked about.

The word “race” as it is now being used has nothing to do with a genome. race=culture.

That’s how Muslim is a race. Blacks who don’t live the hip-hop gheto culture are thought to be the white (eg. Clarance Thomas). So by this new definition gay absolutely can be a race.

The language is being systematically destroyed so that it is not impossible to have a meaningful conversation with many many people.

With the genetic code unraveling and methods being employed to find a gay gene, thus the parent(s) is/are told the child being carried is gay (if this gene exists) no wonder gays are scared to death. Mom and Dad tells the doctor, no way are we raising a gene defective kid. Did I mention no gene has yet been found? Gays everywhere breathed a sigh of relief no gene has been found, but according to gays (they) are a race. Boggles the mind.

blacks are really po’d about the homos equating homosexuality with minority/race status.

About a week ago I heard a Conservative make this point on NPR. He said (paraphrasing), "If you go back a few decades, you had blacks who had to ride in the back of the bus. You had lynchings. It was a terrible time. Gays are not dealing with that at all."

The host breathlessly said, "You really think so? Will we see that level of violence directed at gays??"

The Conservative was completely flummoxed but finally managed to blurt out, "I didn't say anything like that!"

We are all on the lookout for “Newspeak”. 1984 got that wrong. The tool used by our oppressors is “Crazyspeak”. That is the meanings of words change randomly and with greater and greater frequency. So that no one can understand each other and so cannot resist the state.

Don't laugh, this is the intellectual argument that all Democrats are using to justify same-sex marriage as equality. It is the only argument that fits.

The thing that bothers me is with all the left-right debates on this disagreement the past two years I see no Republicans challenging this premise in an effective way to be used politically. If this premise is generally believed as true (as libs claim it is ) then Republicans have lost the battle and it's just time before , you-know-what.

Debate : Are people really defined (and controlled) first by their sexual desires such that it requires new civil rights? That is the argument I would like to see Republicans refute but don't. (this is the liberal version of a 'soul': sexual desires.

The con was saying that being a homo was in no way like being black,
and the lib just couldn’t get past the assumption that they were the same, so applied the black experience to the homos.

I think that they say this because the race card clearly is used to trump everything else in society. So, if you aren’t supinely pro-gay, you are racist. At least there’s some logic in that, because hurling the racist label seems to benefit those who do it.
