JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) An investigation conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service finds that Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune sold $2 million in stolen combat equipment online to gangs in the U.S. and other foreign countries, including China and Russia.
The Jacksonville Daily News reports that the two-year undercover investigation implicated nearly 60 people.

Just as local police forces were forced to accept people with criminal backgrounds, first "misdemeanors" then on to "non-serious felony" records have many many more "problems."
We now are finding the similar folk in our military, even in the once "few, proud Marines."
Your post is exactly correct, re: how difficult it is to steal a weapon. Some equipment isn’t as tightly controlled, but weapons? Forget about it, unless the armory chain of command is involved, which is very unlikely.
Where did you read that? Could you post some more information, maybe a link?
This was bound to happen once Obama opened up our military to the gays.
You best not get caught with an M-16 in your locker either. I knew an E5 who got busted to E1 for that in the early 70s. Never did find out where he got it.
With all that training they should be able to get a job later...with the drug cartels.
Agree with both of you, it’s next5 to impossible to steal a weapon from the armory.
I was on temporary duty in our armory in 1966. We had a sign in and sign out procedure that was followed to the letter and inventory every single day of hundreds and hundreds of weapons and ammo. Every single item had to be accounted for and heaven forbid if the count didn’t come up right. That didn’t mean that one had been stolen, that meant somebody screwed up the count and we would have to do it all again until the count did come out right.
That sign in sign out procedure included checking IDs and it didn’t matter that the guys name was printed on his shirt or that you maybe had personally known him your whole life, you still check his ID.
Bump.
Where in the article does it say that anything was sold to Mexican gangs? Unless you know something we don’t, the gangs were not identified in the story.
Check the source.
I think your timeline is skewed. Things like this, if true, don’t happen that fast.
I was on a ship in Mayport, FL in 97 when the FBI locked down one of the DD’s because a Gunner’s Mate had stolen a case of grenades and sent them to his buddies in New Jersey.
This one smells of another “Fast and Furious”.
I would not be surprised since Obama hates our military and would do everything he could (along with Holder) to cast a dark shadow on all of them. If you can do away with the existing military and replace them with you own (brown shirts), you CAN be the “King” as there would be no resistance agains’t you. Just saying............
These men/women aren't green card holders working a jobs, they are being recruited at high schools and once in, given citizenship on the basis of that service.
am I idealistic or is America rotten to the core?
This has been going on for several years. I'm not sure anybody has a good handle on how pervasive it is. It makes sense; gang-banger with no police record enlists, gets combat training and experience, comes back and teaches his homies how to do it. AND sells stolen gear.
