OMAHA, Neb. - The Associated Press has projected Deb Fischer as the winner of the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate.

Most of the evening, Jon Bruning maintained a lead over Fischer; however, during the 9 p.m. hour, the lead switched in favor of Fischer.

Just under 6,000 votes separated the top two candidates when the Associated Press called the race.

Agreed. Bruning was one of the big movers on the suit against Obamacare. Classy move and I do think he has the goal of beating Kerrey and getting rid of Obama.

I met a guy a couple of years ago who is one of Bruning’s best friends and has been since jr. high school. He said Bruning is a great guy and extremely funny. He also said that his success in politics has not changed him at all and that he was basically the same guy as he was in high school. This was a guy that came out to clean up some pet mess spots on my carpet and not a big shot at all and this was way before the senate run came up so I beleive him.

That being said, I am thrilled with Fischer’s victory. As late as the middle of last week, Bruning’s victory was a forgone conclusion. I think it shows that the people of Nebraska want someone in D.C. who won’t stab us in the back like Nelson and will represent this extremely conservative state in a conservative way.

And just to clarify, I quit the Repub party in disgust about 5 years ago so I didn’t vote in this primary. Deb will certainly get my vote this November and I may have to send her a little contribution as well.

Another headache for Mitch McConnell. Let’s keep them coming!

Senator Kyle and Rand, hang tight, help is on the way. Tea Party Reinforcements are on the way.

Romney's worst nightmare, Palin's Army pulling him right on every piece of legislation, sweet revenge for his destroying her for the last 4 years..

Not to take anything away from Palin, but she was late to the party. Fischer had shown significant gains in support before both the Palins endorsed her.

“Actually, Lugar immediately endorsed Mourdock.”

Sort of.

“He has pledged his support to groups whose prime mission is to cleanse the Republican party of those who stray from orthodoxy as they see it,” said Lugar of the GOP opponent who beat him.

“This is not conducive to problem solving and governance. And he will find that unless he modifies his approach, he will achieve little as a legislator. Worse, he will help delay solutions that are totally beyond the capacity of partisan majorities to achieve,” said Lugar.

Lugar, a senior Republican statesman who briefed President Dwight Eisenhower as a young naval officer, offered a shot across the bow to today’s GOP.

He said if Republicans continue to make it difficult for legislators to find compromise, “we will be relegated to minority status. Parties don’t succeed for long if they stop appealing to voters who may disagree with them on some issues.”

That is one HELL of a pee-poor ‘endorsement’!

Great photo of Sarah Palin. She looks beautiful, serious, and ready to punch the RINOS and DEMONRATS to hell.

We need more Palins and less Boehners and Mitchells.

Ehhhh...not really. I’m from Nebraska and a volunteer for Fischer. Things weren’t looking good two weeks ago when Bruning had a 10+ point lead with endorsements, money and the GOPe behind his back.

Many were afraid that Fischer and Stenberg would split the anti-Bruning vote. Deb was on a shoestring budget and wasn’t campaigning as early as the other two (she’s in the legislature and the Unicameral session didn’t end until April).

When Sarah endorsed, it was like gas on a campfire. Out of nowhere, I got buzzed, tweeted, Facebooked and emailed by my buds asking how they can help/donate. She surged and won in the stretched.

Yes, there were other factors as well, but this victory owes a lot to Palin Power.

Did you not get the memo? Plenty of people here on FR informed me and others that SP was no longer a political concern. The article/news we are discussing therefor did not happen, ergo there is no need for them to spin anything.

I think you would be upsetting those people if you were to imply that SP had anything to do with this victory. She was, afterall, only in it for the money as I was told. ;)

Yep, thanks for pointing that out. I guess I was thinking of Mitch Daniels' very classy endorsement of Mourdock. Anyway, Lugar's sour grapes concession speech was indeed disgusting. I mean, Lugar didn't just get edged in the primary - - he got buried. And he still doesn't get it.

My group, Stand With Arizona is thrilled with the results thus far. We endorsed Deb Fischer because of Bruning’s disgraceful support for Eric Holder and former La Raza radical Thomas Perez at DOJ - even now after all they’ve done against Arizona, Texas and S.C. On Voter ID, and against Sheriff Joe. We sent out emails to our 11,000 Nebraska members on Sunday and want to congratulate Deb Fischer! [and THANK YOU, Sarah Palin!]

I supported Gov Palin, when she was an unknown, but I think we should give a lot of credit to the Tea Party, they have been biting and scratching right along. So a combination of the two is a winning ticket.

From Sarah tonight:

“As recently as a week ago, Deb Fischer was dismissed by the establishment. Why? Because she is not part of the good old boys’ permanent political class. The message from the people of Nebraska is simple and powerful: America is looking for real change in Washington, and commonsense conservatives like Deb Fischer represent that change. I applaud Moms like Deb Fischer who are bold enough to step up and run on a conservative platform to restore America and protect our children’s future. Congratulations to the people of Nebraska. As the Huskers’ fight song goes: “The eyes of the land, upon every hand, are looking at you. Fight on for victory!””

- Sarah Palin
