Aspiring apparatchiks of the coming world dictatorship, tiring of the hopeless race against facts in their anti-industrial carbon dioxide hoax, have finally given up the pretense of science in favor of pure, old-fashioned doomsday preaching. Having been outlasted by reality in the pseudo-science of "global cooling," undone once again in the pseudo-science of "global warming," and ultimately laughed off the stage in the unfalsifiable quackery of "global climate change," it is apparently time at last for the advocates of tyranny in the name of Gaia to play their last card: global mass hysteria.
Consider a recent New York Times editorial by James Hansen, head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and adjunct professor at -- where else? -- Columbia University, the headquarters of the U.S. East-Coast wing of the global socialist movement. The article is an assault on the Canadian oil sands project, and a plea to the Obama administration to do something to stop the Canadian government from allowing wealth and jobs to be created.
Hansen's diatribe -- I choose that word merely as a literal description of the article, which bears no resemblance to an argument -- is noteworthy on three fronts: (1) its tone of angry defiance, suggestive of a man whose instinct, in the face of rational defeat, is to say, "Damn all of you!"; (2) Hansen's attempt to use the Times' friendly confines to double down on the projections of his discredited climate models, without compunction at having no remaining grounds for his claims; and (3) the straightforwardness with which his proposed course of action on this issue proclaims the real, but hitherto half-concealed, purpose of the global climate fraud -- namely, a government takeover of the world economy by means of a proletarian uprising against the "capitalists."
Consider Hansen's opening statement....

Hansen is truly nuts. He should be in a straight jacket at the local loonybin.

I was always amazed whenever the warmists would construct their doomist scenarios, why global warming always made things worse. I’ll bet there were a few faces in the crowd at those “we are doomed” speeches by the likes of Hansen and other warmists who wanted to ask the same thing. If we are warming the planet (or the planet is getting warmer..same difference), wouldn’t that make a huge part of the planet (Russia, Canada) more habitable? Always disaster with these types. I certainly don’t mind warmer winters here in Wisconsin.

Suppose Man could raise or lower the mean temperature of the climate. Given the current hysteria about warming, perhaps the “climate managers” would like to lower the “world temperature” by a few degrees. That might make the planet's deserts more habitable, while driving people out of the colder areas (Canada & Russia?) of the planet. Who will decide that Saudi Arabia deserves a better climate at the expense of Canada & Russia?
Given that the vast majority of world power & wealth is located in the Northern Hemisphere above the Tropic of Cancer, Climate Managers are likely to favor this area of the world when making climate changes, leading to small increases in temperature to satisfy the Russians, Canadians, Germans, Swedes, etc., at the expense of warmer, but less affluent areas of the planet.
I'd like to hear a Leftist justify this as “fair” to sweltering, impoverished Africa.
The truth is, man has neither the ability to manipulate the climate, nor the wisdom to do it responsibly.

Since I live up here by the Arctic Circle, we think about this a lot. There’s still a huge pile of snow next to the garage, and many drifts here and there melting... and it’s been a cool spring. However, you hit the nail on the head.... what’s the perfect climate? When we had -65 degrees this January, was that a good climate? How about now? How about 2002, when it was 80 degrees here? Or back during the last ice age, when there were grasslands and sand dunes?
You know, I concede that humanity just might be changing the climate. If so, our obligation is adaptation to changing circumstances. I’ve been hearing for decades now that the Arctic is supposed to be the place on Earth where the climate will warm the fastest, and it still hasn’t approached the climate we had when trees covered the Seward Peninsula 5,000 years ago.
It sure would be nice to grow corn and apple trees up here.
