Parolee Charged In Arson Fire At Catholic Church [Pic in URL] May 16, 2012
A 34-year-old parolee was charged Wednesday with torching a Hacienda Heights Catholic church, authorities said.
Gregory Yusuke Shiga allegedly broke into John Vianney Catholic Church after midnight April 16, 2011, and ignited a blaze with a flammable material, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
The fire caused more than $6.5 million in damage.
Shiga is on parole and was arrested Monday at his home in Los Angeles, the Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
The department did not say why Shiga was on parole, but online booking records show that he served time at a state prison in Delano.

That church is at the end of Turnbull Canyon Road, a famous road racing spot through the hills north of Whittier. A lot of make-out spots up there, too.

We lived in Avocado Heights for a couple of years and went to St. John Vianney sometimes.
Never heard the rumor. It was just a place we’d go when we got bored cruising Whittier Blvd or shooting pool at the Plush Cue.
Makes me homesick,Memphis, Tn. has no winding roads or hills.
