Vt. becomes 1st state to ban hydraulic fracturing

Gov. Peter Shumlin on Wednesday signed into law the nation’s first ban on a hotly debated natural gas drilling technique that involves blasting chemical-laced water deep into the ground.

The Democrat, surrounded at a Statehouse ceremony by environmentalists and Twinfield Union School students who pushed for the ban, said the law may help Vermont set an example for other states. The ban may be largely symbolic, though, because there is believed to be little to no natural gas or oil beneath the surface in Vermont.

The gas drilling technique, called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves the high-pressure injection of water and chemicals into the ground to split rock apart and release natural gas or oil.

Any state that keeps re-electing that Communist Bernie Sanders deserves to be in the dark and cold.

A shining example of the marriage of ignorance and political correctness so prevalent in liberal culture today.

In other news, Vermont bans removal of glacial ice from any location within its state boundary lines.

I hear that Florida is going to ban downhill snow skiing.

Yes, you understand it correctly.

“The Democrat, surrounded at a Statehouse ceremony by environmentalists and Twinfield Union School students who pushed for the ban, said the law may help Vermont set an example for other states.”

The question might be, what example is being set?

Stupidity, insanity, radical environmentalism sans proof, democrat principles on display, surely there is much much more.

Being hanged for financial treason, might bring a stop to such anti-American idiocy, and bringing uneducated school children and mindless environmentalists into positions of policy making at the state level, is worth two hangings.

I think Maple Syrup should be banned to protect trees from cruel and unusual punishment.

Awwww....never mind. If you can kill babies in the womb, what's the big deal with sticking a tree with a hollow rod and watching it bleed out.

It doesn’t matter, there is nothing worthwhile in that state anyway.

By the way, is that one of those states that has large numbers of people BURNING FUEL OIL for heat in the winter, easily the most STUPID and WASTEFUL and POLLUTING use of oil?

Slant drill from neigboring states....

They have no oil/gas resources.

Also the record horizontal drilling reach is about 8 miles.

Vermont, where nobody drills for oil/gas and they want to keep it that way.

Vermont, also one of only two states that allow incarcerated felons to vote - the other one is Maine.

“Vermont’s decision is fine with me. However, states that do frac for oil and gas should not ship any fuel to Vermont either.”

You beat me to it! The Vermont posturing is typical of New England. They talk a good environmental game, and fight every sort of energy source there is (fossil files, nuclear, and even wind power), and then get Congress to pass special relief legislation to help their citizens pay for winter fuel bills. They are utter hypocrites.

They favor solar energy, which (of course) is the least suitable for New England, and will not by any stretch warm them in the winter. They can burn wood in the country areas, ignoring the resulting air pollution, which drifts out to sea and across to Europe.

This is more liberal idiocy.

Gadzooks! They need lots of fracking up there... 'cause what is evidently in the water up there has made all Vermonters/Vermontites either fracking nuts or fracking communist!

This reminds me of the uber-liberal haven of insanity Takoma Park MD where they years ago voted themselves to be a “nuclear free zone”...when they have none anyway. Also, they allow illegal aliens to vote in their lousy community. Maryland...THE freak state.

If there was a cheap pollution free way to turn dirt into oil, someone would want to ban it.

Nobody asks what this cost the taxpayers of VT in terms of time, publishing and disseminating this meaningless waste of time law.

Further proof that waste is acceptable to liberals.

Oh well, too bad for them.

Lost jobs, lost tax revenue for them.

More access to fracking equipment for everyone else.
