HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - The Hartford City Council voted Monday in favor of a resolution calling for an amendment to the United States Constitution to clarify that a corporation is not a person. After the passage of the resolution, Hartford officially became the first city in Connecticut to pass such a resolution.

See tagline below.
And only people pay taxes.
Well, isn’t that special? Hartford is a cesspool of crime and poverty worthy of Newark, N.J., and this is what the Hartford City Council finds important? Pure Commmie BS.
United States Supreme Court rules that corporations are people
Hint: United States Supreme Court ruling beats Harford City Council resolution like a red headed stepchild.
Well that would end about 90% of all business in this country.
The the Council isn’t a “person” either, are they.
So they have no rights of free speech, etc.
Wasn’t Hartford incorporated as a city by the state??
So, they argue that a corporation is not a person. This makes me suspect that they wish to abort corporations.
Law on corporations goes back at least several centuries. There are different types of corporations, and a huge body of law governing them. This city council obviously is ignorant of the whole matter.
Perhaps someone ought to explain the advantages of corporations for society as a whole. For one thing, a corporation does not die as a human person does: it can go on as long as it is profitable. In fact, there are even non-profit organizations, too.
What if when Steve Jobs died, inheritance tax would click in, and Apple would be sold and dismembered. Would that be good for industry and competition in the country? Good for innovation?
There is no end to the idiocy of socialists, particularly in New England.
Obviously you do not pay attention to the work product of the California legislature.
Not that I blame you.
If corporations are not “people”, then neither are labor unions.
Do they not know the definition of ‘corporation’?
an association of individuals, created by law or under authority of law, having a continuous existence independent of the existences of its members, and powers and liabilities distinct from those of its members. See also municipal corporation, public corporation.
( initial capital letter ) the group of principal officials of a borough or other municipal division in England.
any group of persons united or regarded as united in one body.
Literally, ‘corporation’ means ‘To make a body’............
I can see both sides. if a corporation is a person, that would assume that any political donations the corporation makes are 100% backed by all the workers and investors. When they indulge in politics, they act as a union and don't give the proletariat the option.
Neither are city councils..., or non profits, or leftist organizations....
Turn the whole state in to a big section-8 housing tract - that's a winning strategy.
If they would pay my way I will be glad to meet them. I am 100% of an S Corp. I am a third of a C corp and an LLC. And I am a person. Perhaps they would believe their eyes.
