The Maryland General Assembly passed a $260 million tax increase Wednesday as it adjourned from a three-day special session that ended with Gov. Martin O'Malley saying he will bring lawmakers back for another session this summer.
The House gave final approval to two bills that will raise income taxes and shift a portion of teacher pension costs to counties to balance the states $35.5 billion budget, which is nearly $1 billion larger than last years spending plan.

A good first attempt by the Democrat Socialists in Maryland to bring their state down economically ... but they still have a way to go to catch up with the Democrat Socialists in California who have developed the practice of hurting their citizens into a fine art.
Maryland has decided to become GREECE.
Ping.
Per Fox this morning, they are raising taxes on the “rich” making 4100K or more and couples making $150K or more. Looks like the “rich” are getting poorer instead of richer. One guy even wondered if Obama will revise “rich” from $250K down to $100K if given a second term...
Greece is the word, is the word, is the word...........
It’s Greek to me.............
taxing neighbors out for 100 years
What’s the increase?
Oddly enough, this bill screws liberals more than conservatives. Liberals are more likely to have two spouses working. It’s pretty easy to get to that 150K level with both spouses having cushy Federal jobs. Conservatives are more likely to have the wife not working or working part time.
I wouldn’t take the state of Maryland if you gave it to me.
It’s not a 260M tax hike...it’s 260M PLUS the increased county taxes where you live to cover the shift of the teacher pension costs.
Basically the legislature just enabled O’Malley’s theft of previously paid tax dollars that was supposed to go to teacher’s pensions.
shift a portion of teacher pension costs to counties
And how, pray tell, will the counties pay for these teacher pension costs?
Why, they'll have to increase their income taxes.
Yes, folks: Maryland counties have an income tax, of approximately 3% of one's state income tax. Watch that rate go up over the next couple of years ... on everybody.
How convenient ... State government can claim it "only" raised taxes on "the rich" while brushing the county tax increases under the rug.
DemocRats are liars.
we are in process of moving down south so we can save on taxes ..here in PA we will go from $3780. per year to 5x bigger property to only $143. per year on property tax
Maryland has nothing but contempt and scorn for private enterprise. Manufacturing was forced out long ago.
Delicious irony, the overwhelming majority of those facing the income tax hike will be govt employees, unions, medicine, and academia. These are the hard core of the left in this Marxist hellhole, and MD’s sole substantial industry.
Let that obscene belt of faux wealth girdling DC take a hit. Chickens, come to roost. Eff this place.
Sorry for the rant.
I left MD 5 years ago and ain’t lookin’ back. Florida baby!! No state taxes and a county that gave McCain 60% against Barry.
It seems that State parasites are trying to feed off what are mostly Federal Gov’t parasites....
-— I wouldnt take the state of Maryland if you gave it to me.-—
Maryland, the other Massachusetts.
At least it’s warmer down there.
-—I left MD 5 years ago and aint lookin back. Florida baby!!——
How do you like the climate? I’m considering fleeing MA for a conservative southern state. Florida seeks purple, unfortunately.
Lie after lie, wave after wave of tax increases on them and they still worship him.
It is sickening.
Funny. True.
The sad thing there are a lot of conservatives in Maryland but we are so outnumbered by Balt City, Mont County and Prince Georges. I would love to move, but with the housing and economy like it is, who would want to move to MD? I live in beautiful upper Baltimore County, and I love my farm, but I do feel trapped with the way things are now. So sad. Hate that bast$$$$ O’Malley and his cronies.
Correction: it's 3% of income, not 3% of state income taxes. I'm in Montgomery County and our county tax rate is almost identical to the state rate.
Obama Junior..
Thank you ... Yes ~3% of income.
My apologies for the error. No excuses.
Those of us stuck here find no amusement in your Bwahahahahhaha’ing!
It’s more than that. I remember reading that part of this tax hike is to replenish the state’s transportation “trust” fund which had been emptied not for transportation projects, but for general government services.
” The IRS sent my Tax forms back! AGAIN!!! I guess it was because of my response to the question : “List all dependents?” I replied -”12 million illegal immigrants;”3 million crack heads;”42 million unemployable people on food stamps,”2 million people in over 243 prisons; “Half of Mexico ; and “535 fools in the U.S. House and Senate.
Apparently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.”
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
The state has a cap of 3% for county income taxes, but I’m sure that they won’t mind raising that one in the near future.
And over here to the VA Eastern Shore - and they've already done enough damage.
You only feel stuck. If you give thought, you still can escape. It just depends on your priorities. I hope you take the opportunity to position your self to leave that liberal hellhole. Good luck.
We have between 3 and 3 more years... and then we’re gone. I was just messin’ with you!
I meant to type between 3 and 3 more years.... and then we’re gone!
Once you make the decision and set a timeline, being in the crazed Freak state is terrible. You start to notice all the liberal stupidity that before you tolerated so as to not go insane. Good luck...you’re on the way to fredom. Free at last. Thank God, Free at last.
There’s a reason we call it “The Land of Peasant Living.”
