A Facebook Co-Founder Reflects on the Path Forward (Renounced his U.S. citizenship?)

Eduardo Saverin can escape the United States, but he cannot slip Facebook. “Everything I do in my personal life, in my professional life, it’s completely there,” said Mr. Saverin, a Facebook co-founder, in his first major interview. “A lot of what I do, what everyone does, is influenced by it.” Alone among Facebook’s 900 million users, Mr. Saverin is special: a billionaire with only the vaguest of causes. He co-founded Facebook at age 21, then left two years later with a legal settlement that cut him off from Facebook but left him phenomenally wealthy. His stake will most likely be worth more than $3 billion when Facebook goes public Friday.

Global citizen?...You evaded paying taxes cabana boy and I don't give a rats ass or want to read about your personal or professional life.

(Renounced his U.S. citizenship?)

It's been discussed at F.R. for days now. The over whelming opinion is, "I don't blame him for wanting to keep as much of his money as possible".

A citizenship bought and sold far too cheaply. I don’t want fellow citizens who are citizens merely of convenience.

How did he "evade paying taxes"? He is not worth that $3 billion or so until the IPO occurs. (You can't owe taxes on money not yet earned.) And even after the IPO, he would not owe taxes unless he sold the stock and actually received cash in exchange for the stock.

If he is not a US citizen and does not live in the US when the IPO occurs, he owes no taxes. It's not like he owes the money and refuses to pay. He just made a legal change of status so that he will not owe the taxes if he decides to sell his stock. Nothing wrong with that.

“A Facebook Co-Founder Reflects on the Path Forward”

How do you reflect on something that hasn’t happened yet?

We should be more concerned about the crappy laws that make people want to leave the US rather than punishing them for leaving. We don’t need Berlin Walls in the US.

Where is the outrage for Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, whose spouses have RAPED the taxpayer for tens of millions in profits that would have been illegal for normal citizens.

The most fundamental freedom in a free country is the freedom to leave.
