The text editor of the 1991 literary agency booklet that described Barack Obama as born in Kenya said Thursday the line in question was nothing more than a fact checking error.
Miriam Goderich issued a statement to the Political Wire saying the future president never suggested in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii:
Youre undoubtedly aware of the brouhaha stirred up by Breitbart about the erroneous statement in a client list Acton & Dystel published in 1991 (for circulation within the publishing industry only) that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me an agency assistant at the time. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.

Not a PING!
I loved those records as a kid.
Some blogs are calling it a “typo”.
Someone must’ve tried to type KANSAS but it came out KENYA.
At that time he wasn’t even supposed to write an autobiography. This was the book BEFORE his publisher allowed him to shift course and tell the life story about someone nobody knew. “I ate dog, snorted cocaine, and had so many lady friends that I’ll have to combine them into one person since nobody would believe all my conquests otherwise!”
Obama was born in Hawaii.
Obama was always born in Hawaii.
SOP would be that the author drafts a bio. This would be a part of the initial book proposal or manuscript draft that was either prepared or edited by the author and/or his/her literary agent. The publisher would then "fact check" only after the book had been acquired and put on the next "list" for publication. These sales handouts, often referred to as BLADS [book layout and design], are prepared by the marketing/publicity departments. They receive headshot and bio information from the book's editor at the publishing house and the resulting handout is precirculated to the book store reps for pre pub orders.
I can tell you from direct experience it would be rare for the marketing/publicity departments to "fact check" a bio that was handed to them by the in-house editor, UNLESS they had no such bio to begin with and they were tasked with writing such a blurb. In that case, they would consult obviously with the author or the author's agent. They wouldn't go looking on Google, for heaven's sake.
WOW... I wish when the CIA told BushII about the nuke labs in Iraq that the Democrates would have called it “fact checking error...”
You know a lying cop out of liberals from miles away...
A liberal is never wrong, even when his head is up his arse.
Always? Oh, I get it. How many times then?
It was a vague literary reference...Orwell’s “1984”.
Thanks for the ping!
Just a little sloppiness. /s
Pretty darn lame excuse.
That's a typo, alright.
You know, I've been kind of thinking the same thing.
Apologizing for America while in Egypt and Germany, yes.
Inability to speak without telepromter for darn near everything (he didn't write it - who writes these things for his telepromter).
It's 4 am, so I'll leave it at that. I've been having a feeling of foreboding lately.
There is also a “h”.
How...so many “hows” to consider.
” Ill take Kenyan for $500 Alex.”
Ha, ha, ha....I love Alex!
Maybe he used his Kenya voice and they took it to mean he was from Kenya. And, it was to his advantage at that time to be from Kenya wrt being an author AND from Kenya.
Think of the sales a Kenyan would get rather than someone from Hawaii or Chicago. So what. But, if he was from Kenya, maybe he would glean bigger book sales.
Obama does everything he does to make it seem like he is on top of everything. Maybe the lies are beginning to untangle.
That would be awesome to see the plot unravel.
“There is a difference between a journalist and a reporter.
Indeed, there is. Thanks for the reminder, hedgetrimmer.
Journalists are given way too much credit for “reporting” the news.
My post was directed at the absurdity of the literary agents trying to cover for Obama by claiming it was their “fact checking” mistake. How does anyone make a mistake that involves coming up with a ‘fact’ about something that supposedly never happened, and they could have had no knowledge of since it never happened?
They got this biographical information just like practically any other entity would have: from their client, or prospective author, Barack Obama. They sure as heck didn’t go to the expense of doing a background investigation just to learn where Obama was born.
They make themselves look like complete fools trying to cover for Obama, but no one in the MSM will point that out.
