Baby Dies In Waiting Room: Dad Blames Hospital

A father whose baby son died after being born in a hospital waiting room has told Sky News he believes his son might have survived if he had been given better care. Steven Yorke and his partner Sara Proud went to Leicester Royal Infirmary on Sunday night when Sara realised she was in labour. When they arrived they were told to wait in a side room with other expectant parents. But 80 minutes later baby Kyle was born while Mr Yorke was trying to find help. When two midwives did come to assist, the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. Kyle was quickly delivered and rushed off in the hope of being revived, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Mr Yorke told Sky news: "It's numbing. We're not sleeping well, we're not eating well The slightest thing and we'll cry. Sara's not left the house at all. "It's affected the children in a big way. What can you say? They've let us down. "I actually believe they neglected us - they didn't give us the care we deserve and that's purely it." Even after the birth, Sara was left to deliver the placenta in the waiting room and only realised Kyle had died when Mr Yorke found her and told her what had happened. Leicester Royal Infirmary has admitted that mistakes were made. Jane Porter, head of midwifery at Leicester's Hospitals said: "We are sorry and sad about the tragic death of Ms Proud's son. "We have met with Sara and Steven and we will do so again when further investigations have taken place. "It's clear that we should have seen Sara sooner, what's not clear is whether her baby died during or some time before the birth and only the post mortem will be able to answer that."

Wow, what a sad story. That should be required reading for all those supporters of “rationed” health care.

I keep trying to tell my lib friends that if they have their way, they will wind up being nostalgic for how “bad” things used to be.

left to deliver the placenta in the waiting room?.....

in my mothers time, she could stay in the hospital for a week after birth....now, we women have bent down so far we're expected to not only deliver the baby and be gone in 24 hrs or so, and now they made this lady deliver the placenta in the waiting room....

you ladies out there remember that the more babies you have, sometimes the more pain with afterbirth....let alone the risk of bleeding out....

insanity....

If I am reading this correctly....she gave birth in the waiting room and then after giving birth with the help of hospital staff they left her there to pass her placenta ?

Have Britain turned into a third world country?

Even in third world countries people aren’t treated that way....

Pfff, don’t you see how lucky you are that you don’t have to drop the baby while standing up, then get back to harvesting crops? Count your blessings! /sarc

Leicester Royal Infirmary has admitted that mistakes were made.

Well, gee, ya' think?!

Unbelievable! I read the Daily Mail all the time, and there are a lot of negative articles on things that go on in the NHS system, and while there are some positive comments below the articles, there are plently of negative ones of UK citizens relaying experiences.

Wrapping of the cord around the babys neck happens mire often than you think.

No, staff took the baby whilst other staff helped hre pass the placenta in the waiting room.

Clearly she went into labour early.

But, remember everyone has a little card saying they have health care. They just can’t see a doctor.

And this great non-care is free!... well except for the high taxes.

My mother delivered my oldest brother in an English hospital where she and he stayed for two weeks. Personally, I’m glad to get out in a day or two. I can’t stand being in a hospital.

In how many american hospitals would a woman who went into early labor would be left in the waiting room after giving birth and then not moved to room immediately...
