Demographic Tipping Point: Whites Now Less than Half of US Births

Bill Clinton once said that he looked forward to the day when whites were a minority in America. While he won't live to see such a time, a demographic milestone that should send a tingle up Slick Willie's leg was just reached. Writes The New York Times:

After years of speculation, estimates and projections, the Census Bureau has made it official: White births are no longer a majority in the United States.

Non-Hispanic whites accounted for 49.6 percent of all births in the 12-month period that ended last July, according to Census Bureau data made public on Thursday, while minorities - including Hispanics, blacks, Asians and those of mixed race - reached 50.4 percent, representing a majority for the first time in the country's history.

Obviously, a big reason for this demographic shift is migration -- and mainly the legal variety. As a result of Ted Kennedy's Immigration Reform Act of 1965, the level of yearly immigration increased from approximately 250,000 prior to '65 to about 1,000,000 afterwards. And its nature has changed also: 85 percent of our new arrivals hail from the third world and Asia. This radical departure from America's traditional immigration patterns has created a demographic transformation possibly unprecedented in world history -- except for cases of actual invasion.

The problem has nothing to do with skin color. As far as I'm concerned there is only one race, the human race. The problem with minority groups is their exploitation as a dependency class. I fully believe race was just an excuse to achieve that. What we need to be worrying about is how to stop this march of government dependency. As the Julia ad from the Obama campaign shows they are trying to put all of America in the same boat that minorities predominately occupy.

I realize that part of what has changed these numbers are many of certain groups who receive federal aid based on the number of children they have coupled with different culture and religious beliefs are procreating at a faster rate. For instance large Hispanic families are quite common. This problem is not limited to one race, however, the problem is with the way of thinking. The same is true of immigration problems legal and illegal. From an economic perspective I find it hard to blame the minorities for making the rational income maximizing choice. Such choices right or wrong, are a common problem to us all. How many rich white business men have made similar choices and taken a short term personal gain and let others deal with the consequences.

Do you think we are headed towards some sort of genetic apocalypse, ala The Little Black Bag and The Marching Morons by Cyril M. Kornbluth because the white birth rate is lower than the birth rate of minorities?

What we need are men and women who love freedom regardless of the race. Our great land if she is to survive needs a change in the hearts of its citizens. A change of heart not limited to those that are white. We need politicians who quit pandering to any difference (race, wealth, gender, location) who insist on reporting the latest numbers on birth rates and demographics. Do we really care what color someones skin is? Not only no, but h*ll no!

P.S. Before folks begin bashing me as some sort of liberal troll check my record, I'm new here, but a died in the wool conservative. I'm just venting my frustration at conservatives playing the game the media hands them and labeling everyone. No hard hard offense meant.

With all due respect, you’re not being intellectually honest. Saying that whites vote Democrat in larger numbers is a non-starter because, as I’m sure you realize, it’s only percentages that matter. Most whites vote GOP by a slim margin. Most minorities vote Dem by a wide margin.

Let’s keep it real.

These are the end times for America.

I am sure many in my non-white family that immigrated to the US in early 1900's, many of which who have served this country loyally, would disagree. The bible teaches us that circumcision is in the heart, not the skin. I believe that being an American is also not of the skin, but of the heart.

You seem like a nice fellow, but the fact is that race correlates strongly with many other characteristics. And while we can argue about the causes of this, two things should be accepted. One is that it’s unlikely that these differences are entirely a result of nurture. The other is that it doesn’t matter as much as you may think. The voting patterns show ZERO sign of changing.

Also remember what history shows: minorities generally don’t fare very well at the hands of a majority. Especially when that majority has been taught to hate them.

Do you really want to bank on the beneficence of the new majority? What do you think America will look like governmentally and socially when it looks like Mexico demographically.

I see you’re in Idaho. Maybe you need to live in southern CA for a while to place things in perspective.

Two thoughts.

More number crunching. Filter out "Hispanic Whites", and you get the result you want to report which is that whites became a minority.

I didn't see anything in this about biracial children. I think that may be the real story. Personally, it's a story that cheers me up when I see what's happening with race relations lately.

Ah yes; the movie that uses the premise of the C.M. Kornbluth story mentioned in my other comment. You really think only whites are smarter enough to continue keeping the world running?

That's the kind of evolutionary world view that led to the eugenics programs of the 1930's. In response I would point you to Acts 10:34 in the Bible. God is no respecter of persons. Jude writing to the church made up of Jews and Greeks wrote of the "common salvation." If God doesn't see a difference, we should not either. No race has a monopoly on brain power.

Why are we as conservatives buying the same line of hype the media originally sold all of these minorities: "It's you against everyone else!"?

The study lumps together all nonwhite races to scare us. Keep in mind, no one of the minorities (Asian, Native American, Hispanic, Black, etc.)will have a majority either. So even then I don't see a reason to be concerned. Do all of those groups have an interest in banding together to destroy the white who hold a plurality?

You hit the nail on the head. Being a patriotic American is a way of thinking, not a race or color. A lot of people thought the same way when the Irish and the Italians came over in large numbers - but they assimilated into the American culture, which is based on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, not on skin color.

What is needed is a program to teach school age children about the real American values and the real Constitution - ooops, we are doomed...

That movie is hilarious, though tragic in some regards. One comment I think from Michael Medved was that you could have coarsening and degradation of the culture to a low level like that without even a genetic degradation - in essence, that such a decline was possible even without average IQs dropping.

Oh brother yourself. Whites are not merely "other humans" with pale skin (you say that like having pale skin is a bad thing). If whites were merely "pale-skinned" other humans and there were no other differences, all of Africa would have been as successful as South Africa was until recently, Detroit would still be a thriving city, Haiti would not be a sewer, and the southwest region of the US would be Mexico (which Mexicans leave to illegally enter the US).

Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

Keep it real? What do you know about real? Do you know any non-white patriots? I sure do! "End of times" my white butt. We have many people who come here, become citizens and raise their children that are not "white". They become true Americans embracing our culture of freedom and dignity of all our citizens and represent the best of conservative values. That's not to discount the contribution of other non whites born in this nation as patriotic Americans who work just as hard every day to make this nation great despite the efforts of the left.

You read too much into my comments. The particular cite I wrote in the movie is about the white intelligent couple and their ‘counterparts’ in the movie - who happened to be white, also. So your assumption that I was speaking of non-whites is wrong.

Further, I commented on influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal being a detriment. Please show me where I used the comment ‘non-white’....

To me, the story seems like a scare tactic by the left. Caucasians are meant to feel like they’re outnumbered by the “minorities,” and since “minorities” vote in larger numbers for Obama we then lose hope in voting him out of office. Nice demoralizing tactic, but if we keep our heads about us, we can do it.

Personally, I’ve been speaking with more minorities, and many of them, I find hopeful signs, they want to start businesses, make money, and they know Obama is not the man to give them room to do that.
