New Zimmerman, Martin Images Could Make Finding a Jury Difficult: Expert
WTVJ-TV ^ | May 18, 2012 | Willard Shepard

The last images of Trayvon Martin before he was killed show him at the counter at a Sanford 7-Eleven as he buys Skittles and an iced tea. Another newly released photo shows a yellow tarp covering his body just a short distance from the house he was walking back to on Feb. 26.

George Zimmerman’s doctor says his nose likely was broken in their encounter, and more photos show Zimmerman’s face and head up close on the night he shot Martin, which he says he did in self-defense.

The public viewing of these images, while clearly permissible under Florida law, may make it extremely difficult to find an impartial jury, a South Florida legal expert told NBC 6.

“It makes everybody a CSI expert, a defense attorney, a prosecutor,” said Miami criminal defense attorney and former public defender Jonathan Meltz, who is not associated with the case. “To get a fair and impartial jury is difficult. They will be tainted.”

The new images were part of a massive amount of evidence, including 184 pages of documents and recordings, which prosecutors released in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman Thursday. He has pleaded not guilty.

Meltz says the blood on the back of Zimmerman’s head, and the frontal shot which his damaged nose – which two police officers who responded to the scene described as broken in a Sanford Police offense report – will go a long way in court.

“It appears to bolster the defense more than the state or the prosecution,” Meltz said. “You've seen multiple pictures of what his head looked like. The blood scrapings, the injuries, multiple witnesses are talking about a broken nose.”

The new documents include numerous witness accounts of the incident at The Retreat at Twin Lakes, some of which conflict.

Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said “we’re very happy that this information is all out, it’s all transparent, so everybody in America can see it for themselves and judge it for themselves. We don't have to have no third parties interpreting it for us.”

Seriously? He graduated from a law school?

Isn't that the TV station that was caught editing the voice tapes for the Today Show to make Mr. Zimmerman look like a racist?

Why would Zimm want a jury? In this case he’s better off with just a judge. It’s up to the defense, isn’t it?

Legal idiocy. Only def can ask for COV, and that’s the last thing the def wants in this case

I think the disclosure of all this information is very intentional - so that no jury can be found. A mistrial will then be declared with no “winner” or “loser” in court ... thus leaving everyone to his own decision and opinion. That may be enough to prevent Rodney King-rioting in the streets if there is an “adverse” verdict. Florida fears reaction more than it desires justice (my opinion, obviously).

No, he was ‘passed’ through law school. A very common occurrence, especially if threats about civil rights complaints are made. “Heck, he's not worth my getting in trouble for, let somebody else flunk him and suffer the consequences.”

I agree completely. It’s pretty obvious that the prosecution ‘way over-charge with the 2nd degree murder charge. Combine that with an evidence dump like the last three days, you come to the conclusion that the prosecution has no intention of trying this case. They are trying to neutralize the race baiters.

How did he pass the Florida bar exam?

State-controlled media insists on publishing them, then lament that publishing them might help Zimmerman get off.

They just can't make up their minds.

“the disclosure of the evidence was intentional”

I have been wondering about that. I can’t recall evidence being released in other cases prior to a trial.

But a huge LynchMobMedia-wide campaign to demonize Zimmerman and lionize Traytable didn't compromise the case?

The POTUS comparing Traytable to his fictional son didn't compromise the case?

The DoJ starting a hate crime investigation before the FL prosecutor even filed charges doesn't compromise the case?

A sitting Congressman making an ass of himself on the House Floor in a hoodie doesn't compromise the case?

Every professional race hustler in the business calling for "protests" doesn't compromise the case?

The NBPP domestic terrorist organization issuing Dead or Alive Wanted Posters and threats of riots doesn't compromise the case?

No, none of that compromises the case but actual evidence, that may or may not be seen in the courtroom, does.

Finding a jury won’t be difficult, finding one that understands the law and isn’t a bunch of emotionally driven ninnies will be.

If you care to wander over to DU and peruse the Martin/Zimmerman threads, what passes for reason over there is astounding.

One of the most common themes involves Zimmerman being a wannabe cop bully who profiles the child Trayvon. Trayvon was merely standing his ground when “assaulted” by Z’s crazy profiling, therefore the child Trayvon launching a physical attack on Z is merely righteous self defense.

Zimmerman loses all right to self defense when he profiles the child Trayvon and disobeys the dispatcher order to cease pursuit. Furthermore, by possessing a firearm Z clearly shows intent to murder, and is a reprehensible coward for not taking his well deserved beating like a man, instead resorting to the cowardly way by using his firearm.

It’s within your rights to assault and mercilessly beat people who follow you and ask you what you are doing, but in general only if you are a minority. If you see suspicious activity and do anything but call 911 and wait, you are a vigilante.

Following somebody and asking them what you are doing makes you a stalker under Florida law, and you lose any right to self defense while committing this felonious act.

I’m not making any of this up. People who post that stuff over there are potential jurors, and are convinced that the above views are the only reasonable ones a sane person can hold. The would not think themselves to be prejudiced in any way.

I’ve listened to Al Sharpton on the radio and this is his line of reasoning, too, as well as that of most of his guests and callers, except for the ones who think that all the evidence is manufactured, and that Zimmerman gunned down the child Trayvon while he begged for mercy, and then went and concocted everything we’ve seen with his good buddies the racist cops.

No amount of truth, evidence, change of venue or anything else is going to matter to people who think this way, and if Zimmerman walks the only thing they’ll be capable of his rage.
