The Avengers good news spelled bad news for Battleship, which debuted to a dismal $9 million on Friday. That puts the board game-inspired action film on pace for a $26 million weekend a result that Universal clearly didnt have in mind when it green-lighted the $209 million picture. By comparison, the years other big expensive flop, Disneys John Carter, mustered a slightly better $30.2 million its first weekend. Both movies starred Taylor Kitsch, whose young career is getting off to an incredibly unfortunate start.

Oh that is Great!
It looked like Battleship vs Transformers in the ads. That has nothing to do with the game at all. I have no idea what kind of audience they were aiming for.
Large robots invade Earth, okay.... US takes old battleships out of mothballs to fight them? One of the dumbest premises ever.
“What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is tanking, too. So is “The Dictator.”
Baaaaaaaad weekend at the box office. (Except for “The Avengers.”)
That is awesome!
I love it.
Good stuff. Ya got me sheriff. Had to do a search. LOL!
I thought their trailer was horrible. Remind me too much like Transformers, which I didn’t like. Great special effects but very very horrible acting and dialogues
Shoot, I’d sure like to “founder” with 9mil in a weekend.
We went to see “Battleship” today and found it to be quite entertaining. I have no trouble recommending it.
There was an immitation “battleship” on SYfy tonight. It was called Warships, should have been called the USS Iowa verses the aliens.
Meanwhile a true story with lots of battleships and naval warfare (Leyte Gulf) goes unfilmed....
I didn’t know that you were a Bronnie! ;)
Loved Avengers, saw it five times. I’m not going to see Battleship in the theater.
With few exceptions, realism no longer sells. Freepers loved Act of Valor, but read recently that while it was cheap to make, it struggled to pay off it’s $30m marketing campaign.
I think it’s cleaning up in foreign markets though.
yep
perdogg: NO!!! I just thought it was funny.
Ya know.....it’s not often here that LOL LITERALLY means LOL..........but by God that did. I needed that. :)
Brilliant. :)
Yes, Joss Whedon did a great job. I had no doubt as BTVS was a great TV series ( No surprise from me, right?) But I never liked Firefly or DollHouse
