It was the middle of the lunch rush Saturday, and Mike Winston was working in the kitchen of his Tinley Park restaurant, the Ashford House, when a waitress screamed a fight had broken out in the dining room.
Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.
Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant.
“They came running in the door single file,” said Winston, who owns Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St., and the adjacent Winston’s Market.
Winston, and police, said the men knew who their targets were, and that the attack wasn’t a random act of violence. Winston said the mob “targeted” a group of 20 diners, all of whom were from out of state.
“Once they attacked the table, they went and started hitting random people,” Winston said.
Along with hammers, the men used what Winston described as “old-fashioned police batons” as well as metal batons.
“Four or five people got knocked over the head pretty good, enough to require stitches,” he said.
He chased after one of the attackers “and had him on the ground, then five guys got out of a car and started kicking the [crap] out of me,” Winston said.
Winston said he was kicked in the back of the head and suffered several bruises, but he was the only restaurant employee who was hurt.
“They did a whole lot of damage,” he said. “They flipped over tables, they broke half the dishes.”
Surveillance cameras inside the restaurant captured the attack, and footage was turned over to Tinley Park police, Winston said.
It would be fun to watch these two gangs club each other to death. Loathesome dirtbags though they are, the ‘fronters appear to have the law on their side, at least this time. The anarchists are playing with fire when they organize this kind of assault. If one of the Nazis had started shooting, it would almost certainly have been ruled justifiable, even in Chicago. Can you imagine the publicity? It would be the kind of propaganda coup Goebbels dreamed about.

The white supremacists had apparently posted on one or more of their websites that they planned to have lunch at the Ashford House restaurant, 7959 W. 159th St, Tinley Park. Their internet postings refer to a "5th Annual White Nationalist Economic Summit." Not clear is whether they chose this weekend and this suburban Chicago location as some sort of response to the NATO Summit in Chicago.
The "anti-fascists" boasted of the violent attack on their own website, promising more to come. The first of four key unity principles cited on the website states: "Whenever fascists are active or organizing in public, we're there. We don't believe in ignoring them or staying away from them. Never let the Nazis have the street."
A skinhead using the name Brandon Spiller posted several messages after the attack. He said doctors used eight surgical staples to close a wound inflicted on him. He complained, "I had my gun in my car, but couldn't get to it due to Illinois law. If I was able to CCW (concealed carry of a weapon) they would have been stopped and I wouldn't be typing this from a hospital."
One witness told Fox Chicago News that, just before the brawl, the attackers gathered in a lot near the restaurant. They were dressed entirely in black, wearing hoodies and bandannas to conceal their identity. He said the attackers were all white, including a mix of young men and women who may have been in their 20s. He said they loudly chanted political slogans. Then, armed with baseball bats, nunchuks and hammers, they ran screaming through the restaurant's front door. "

You think the attackers would not have similarly assaulted a FReeper gathering? Here's my philosophy: people can have whatever political/racial/ideological viewpoints they want, as long as they refrain from violence. Anybody violently assaulting somebody, using lethal weapons, should be dealt with using deadly force.
I would hold the same viewpoint whether it was Stormfronters attacking leftists, or the current incident.
This should have been on pay for view. Two equally disgusting groups.
Neo-Nazis (the people who were attacked, were allegedly Neo-Nazis) are socialists and so are communists. They struggle to dominate one another on the left. They are all anti-American, anti-freedom pigs.
You guys are both wrong, the attacking group was white, another article points that out. I am of the opinion that black on white crime has increased but we need to be open minded and fair when it comes to these crimes...

Usually when people on FR say Amish they mean one of two groups of people, blacks and muslims. Most of the time they are correct, sometimes they are not. It is best to wait and see before making remarks a person might regret. If you said Amish it was natural for me to assume you were making the usual assumptions about race or religion, both of whom are involved in many gang type incidents but not every time.

The next time the White Nationalists plan a summit, they should publish it along with an address where they WON'T be at.
Have a couple of people in a van nearby and when the attackers gather in their hoodies and bandannas, call the police that a robbery is going down at said address, and let the cops sort things out.
