George Lucas might build affordable housing
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5/20/12 | Phillip Matier, Andrew Ross, Chronicle Columnists

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas could, indeed, make good on his idea of building affordable housing right next door to the high-income NIMBYs who blocked his plans for a production studio near his Lucas Valley ranch complex.

His Marin County neighbors and conservationists have dismissed Lucas' musings as sour grapes, and say low-income housing could never be built in such a remote and environmentally sensitive location.

But those in the know disagree.

There's a feeling on the Board of Supervisors, which has final say over the project, that it fits into the county's desire for more low-income housing - and by the way, the land is already zoned for residential use.

The real question may not be political approval - it's whether Lucas can raise the money to make the project work.

Building is something Lucas appears to be very fond of doing, according to officials in San Anselmo, who say he is constantly buying properties around his home there and fixing them up.

He even buys commercial properties, tears them down and replaces them with miniparks.

He could also team up with a local tribe and build a Hotel/Casino and a gas station -— maybe even a power plant.

I’d be interested to know exactly how Marin County defines “low income housing”. I’m guessing it isn’t Section 8 apartments.

Its like that in Maryland.

The Dems are endlessly raising our taxes many for the environment and green energy mandates while approving more and more development in heavily wooded areas for the sake of affordable housing, all while our home values are still dropping.

One benefit : The new people vote Democrat giving the them absolute unchallengeable power.

Yeah that’s the way it struck me too. Wants to punish the neighbors with poor folks.

The rich leftist liberals in Marin deserve section 8 housing right next door, and have for thirty years.

May they reap what they sow, in spades.

Section 8 is the Liberals’ secret weapon they use to destroy those who oppose them.

Affordable to whom? Certainly not the taxpayers. “Affordable” has become a euphemism for theft from the taxpayers.

Would he walk through the neighborhood he built, though, once occupied . . . ?

Whoops; missed this one before. So not only is he building houses for riffraff, he’s tearing down places where they could actually work for a living . . . ? If I had his kind of money, I would be trying to reindustrialize the country so we would no longer be dependent on enemies and other rogue countries for things vital to our lives.

Rules of life the Marin whackos forgot:
1. Make sure you know who really is in control.
2. Remember the Golden Rule (Who has the gold, makes the rule.).

Hilarious, they don’t want those low down people dirtying up their pretentious “environmentally sensitive” enclave for the filthy rich.

If I had a nice home there, I'd be going out and trapping endangered animals really quickly before he got the building permit.

Let's see if he gets his ghetto built when the eco-hippie naturalist surveyors find his site is already occupied by endangered Stephen's Kangaroo Rats.

"Gee, George... Too bad that they found a nest of them endangered Pacific Tit-lipped bitch-crickets on your property. Tough break, HAH? Gosh, NOW whatcha gonna do?", I'd tell him between noisy bites of an apple.

San Diego has a definition of the CA approach to “affordable housing”.

http://www.sandiego.gov/housing/whatis.shtml

Note the 15% requirement, no wonder the County supervisors want them to be built.
