California has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. But one wouldn’t know that going to the firing range these days. AR-15s and AK-47s are the must-have guns of choice. How can that be?

Every time California tightens up the assault weapons ban, the gun industry finds a way around it. The latest example involves a tiny device...

Are you the old fart that joined us in Palm Springs for a protest?

As for California law, yes they can dictate certain restrictions, but since the latest USSC ruling, they are limited. That latest ruling was one of the best for decades. They said, WE, have a right to own guns, according to the 2nd Amendment. Didn't really think I'd see that in my time. Too bad it was 5 to 4...still we won! It won't be over-turned anytime soon.

“Here’s idea Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, allow everyone to open carry in Calif and watch the gangsters back off.”

Just to be a pain-in-the-butt, I like to remind folks that it was Ronald Reagan that called for the banning on open carry of loaded weapons when he was Governor (and got it). It was in response to the Black Panthers showing up on their marches and the courthouse steps with their rifles and shotguns.

I bring it up as a reminder that NO candidate is 100% PERFECT. Of course that argument was more useful when trying to decide between the candidates 6 months ago and disregarding the 10% to 20% of things we disagreed with them on.

It is also a reminder that bad laws often are here to stay for a long, long time. And only lead to worse decisions.

Your ole man had to be a Marine to be at those places. My ole man fought in Belgium, France, and Germany, of course as Army. I wear his Staff Sergeant stripes and last unit badge on my biker vest where ever I ride as a tribute to him. I'm also a Patriot Guard Rider. If you don't know what that is, Freepmail and I will explain.

As a former aviation gator Navy squid for many years, I found it to be an honor to be a Marine "sea-going bellhop". Although, they did piss me off when they came aboard and bought up all the ship's goodies...haha. Still, gotta love a Marine.

He didn't talk about the Navy much, but he did mention that the Seabees fed him well when he guarded their compounds, as most of them were older construction types drafted or enticed due to their skill sets and not given much infantry training. My mother was probably more disappointed when I joined the Army instead of the Marines, but they offered me a much better deal and I'd already seen most Marine Corps bases.

Some SKS can be converted to have detachable mags. Others came in with detachable mag systems fitted.

I left in 95 and it was already on the way to not being one. Not my fault either.

I didn't know that about Reagan. In this day however, I lean towards the citizenry being armed and open carrying. In Reagan's day, things had not progressed to point of socialism and so close to anarchy, as the world and even the US is heading towards.

Again, arm every citizen like Switzerland does, or used to. The crime rate will plummet as it has over the last years, due to the bad guys knowing that citizens will no longer take their crap while buying arms and ammunition at an incredible rate. Wish I had known and bought Ruger stock.

Do you or anyone really believe that local law enforcement decreased crime? I don't. I think the bad guys have realized they are going to get deaded when they attack nowadays. I read on this and other forums every day about so many that defend their homes and lives with guns.

Let's think liberal for a moment and that the USA shuts down every gun manufacturer tomorrow. So what happens to the millions of guns and billions of rounds? They just disappear? Okay, let's go further into the future and all those arms rust away because Colt, Smith&Wesson, and all other American gun companies have been long defunct.

So what of Sig Souer, Glock, Russian arms, Eastern European arms, et al? Do they go away, also? No, of course not. They will continue to supply a legitimate market and even the black market. Such weapons may get more expensive if the American manufacturers don't exist, but they WILL continue to supply the bad guys with arms. Besides, it would take decades to destroy the existing US arsenal of guns. Guns and to a lessor extent cartridges are pretty sturdy.

I guaran-damn-tee that the gangsters in LA, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, NY, etc. will have access to arms into the far far future. SO, what's the answer?

Citizen ownership and open carry in every State. I'm okay with some training to carry. I don't see that as a 2nd Amendment infraction. I see it as logical and common-sense in this day. I don't want every dumb-ass carrying who has never fired a weapon. Just talking about familiarization firing (FAMFIRE) once or twice.

In the news lately here in Washington State there have been numerous home invasions. Several of them ended with the homeowner drawing a weapon, shooting through a door, or killing the perps. In one instance the homeowner fired at the fleeing truck as they drove down the street. All the cop at the scene had to say was something like “It was a white pickup truck that probably has the rear window shot out”. After another a rash of such incidences, one of the top cops said “It is open season on criminals”. Although I think he borrowed that line from a former state senator!

You used to be able to shoot anything you wanted when I lived there.

I remember reading about two teenaged California boys who made some forestry people mad at them by paying $30 or something for a mail-order Boyes anti-tank rifle (British, either .50 BMG or 20mm caliber) and shooting it in the woods. The weather being dry, the muzzle blast started a brushfire in the leaf-litter.

Vet, you did your duty even more than me. Sorry your Mom thought less for you not being a Marine, they are not the end all. That kinda makes me sad. The only thing I ever did in my life that made my parents proud was to join the Aviation Navy, and that's even less hazardous than Army. Along with your thinking, I also didn't want to experience a continuing boot camp like the Marines do.

While I have felt bad sometimes for not being in the "shit" with some my buds, I still recognize that I was targeted by the Soviet machine and could go down to ole Davy Jones Locker any time. No matter what you were in the Army, I'm sure you did your part.

From the most macho SEAL to the supply clerk, we all did our duty and sacrificed. As young men we all wanted to make a difference and be in the "shit". Being Viet-Nam era Vet, I'm glad I wasn't in "it". Saw too many friends come back too screwed up. Be proud and be certain in your beliefs about your service, I am.

I did 11 years of old Navy away from home and my wife and eventually lost her because of it. Still, I'm proud of every moment on that flight deck and wouldn't trade a second for anything. It was the best thing I have ever done and will go to my grave knowing I did something right. Sure you will too.

For the folks not familiar with a “bullet button”, here’s a nice vid of one “in action” on an AR-15:

So did our guys in our cinder-block building on top of an ancient, emergent reefrock ridge. We used to talk about how we could tell the balloon was going up: a loud "bang" would remove the cinder-block building , and then the rest of us would get to watch a big Soviet Charlie-class SSGN surface about 400 yards beyond the reef and start putting spetsnazy into rubber boats.

We didn't have nearly enough machine-guns ..... and we kept what we had in one of the two larger cinder-block buildings.

The only solution for Clownifornia is to tear it down legally, repeal all the laws passed in the last fifty years, strictly enforce the immigration laws and start over.

Come to think of it, that’s what the rest of the country needs as well.

They aired this stoopit story two weeks ago.

It was lame and unscary. Just a hit job that “The Evil Gun Manufacturers” have “skirted” the law.

The comments section of this story is refreshing.

Maybe Californians are getting fed up, too.

Fed up, yes. However, unlike any other oppressive country Californians could leave.
