Last Monday, a high school student in North Carolina engaged his social studies teacher in a heated debate about politics and the two leading presidential candidates. During the exchange, the teacher (an obvious Obama supporter) got very angry with the student and accused him of disrespecting the president. She even went so far as to tell the boy that he could be jailed for speaking ill of Obama.

Jail? If that’s going to get you thrown in jail there haven’t been enough jails built in the history of the world to hold those of us who could be jailed for that.
Issues aside, the teacher totally lost control of that classroom. The students were baiting her. She fell into the trap.

I blame the principal; apparently the teacher has been pushing an agenda all year but it took a candid camera episode to bring about correction.
I think we all know nice folks with ideological blind spots that lead to irrational behavior, and maybe that's what we're dealing with here. As a professional, each teacher should keep his personal irrationality out of the classroom, but it's the principal's job to make sure all the teachers maintain a neutral playing field for ideas, and I guarantee the principal knew that this one teacher - and how many more just at this one school? - were violating that principle on a daily basis.
Hopefully the incident will be a warning to other teachers across the state and the well-meaning ones will modify their behavior.
Hope they are ramping up security in ‘housewares’ at Target and Wal-Mart today, before someone decides to administer some ‘justice for Tanya’ to some unsuspecting professional woman...

Glad to hear the kid standing up for himself - “I’ll say what I want”. And she tries to bully him by getting in his face - you can just see the top of her head bobbing in the left-side of the screen as she comes down the aisle after him.
Listening to the whole exchange, she becomes increasingly incensed and starts SHRIEKING at the kid...who then proceeds to stand his ground and laugh at her - which gets her even more spun up.
She also threatens him about “not doing his work”, and says it’s criminal to disrespect the Pres.
I’m at a loss to understand what some idiot AA-hire moron like this could even begin to teach kids...except how NOT to behave.

...and yet another reason that justifies my spending $$$ to send my kids through parochial school.
We know all the teachers personally, they’re about 95% conservative, and the school has have common cultural, philosophical, and - American - beliefs - like my family does.
I’m sure there’s some good public schools around the country, but the ones in my area are infested with this same sort of garbage.

I went to parochial school for my first 5 years. When I entered public school, I was at least a year ahead of the other students. I was able to get into advanced placement courses in high school.
