Police said the anti-tank gun had been fired, but did not say where or when.

A BB gun and a replica 9mm handgun were also found in the apartment.

The video they link to shows a shoulder fired rocket launcher. The story says it “had been fired”.

The whole story seems pretty shady.

Someone was arrested over an empty tube , a bb gun and a toy/replica 9mm pistol? Sounds like normal toys we would have been playing with in the 1960’s or 70’s as children.

Ummm... okay... what TYPE of AT gun? We talking an arty cannon? 75mm PAK? RPG7? Javelin? Soviet 45mm?

RPG7 and Javs can be discarded without a charge and are essentially useless except as a souvenir. Most larger AT GUNS are towed by a vehicle and generally not suitable for infantry use.

Any burning tanks or blasted out walls within range? Or are the cops idiots.

A BB gun

A BB gun in the apartment? Call in UN peacekeepers.

The story links to this video (which doesn’t have anything to do with the story) but it shows an M136 AT4 (light anti-tank weapon)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hLJxp2wRISs

In fact from what I’m reading the tube is intended to be tossed aside after use.

Sounds like they got their hands on an expended tube, from an AT4.

Probably more dangerous than the awful BB gun that was siezed...but only if you swing it at someone.

Terribly written article.

AT4. Dummy, used for training purposes. Somehow the kid got it, but in no way would that thing ever be able to fire anything. Typical over-reaction by retarded reporters.

Correction: a used launcher that is NOT a weapon.

I smell a lawsuit in San Francisco’s near future.

They've been pushing a law in Cali (SB 1070 I think? maybe I'm wrong) that would require all bb, airsoft and air guns to be made of clear plastic.

I wouldn't be suprised if SF already has a similar law on the books, or maybe airguns are banned outright.

Some kids get all the cool toys.

In the mid-1960's, my favorite uncle (who was a LtCol in the Reserve and a civilian employee at the Rock Island Arsenal) gave me a fired LAW... I was definitely the only kid in town with one. Oh, the chagrin when the front sight flipped up one too many times and broke!

The nannies of today would crap cinder blocks if they saw the "playing army" gear of the prepubescent set in those days.

You should have seen the Army Surplus stores of the 1950s and early 1960s, the collection of demilitarized machine guns from around the world was incredible, and I think went for like 30 and 40 dollars for the common ones if I remember right.

Probably a demil’ed LAWS rocket tube that you can buy at most gunshows and surplus military stores. Basically he was arrested for scaring a liberal.

I haven’t seen a spent LAW tube for sale in years. I was told that at some point the Army started ordering they be destroyed immediately after firing...material for boobytraps and all that.

Last time I saw any for sale, the prices were well into the hundreds.

The replica is of no use, the BB gun is too small, but the anti-tank gun is just right.

Colton (Southern California - close to San Bernardino), where the arrested were found is 435 miles from San Francisco.

Are you saying they are going to sue the paper?

Had been fired when? In Desert Storm? I think they sell those things as paperweights in Army Surplus Stores.

What’s next? If I have a spent roman candle tube in my trunk, they will arrest me for transporting fireworks?

Maybe classing empty beer cans as “open containers” set a precedent.
