Read the article and it says police were tipped off to an IED in a backpack.
It contained a liquid that was sent off for testing.

I was listening to the CPD radio frequency on Sunday. There were at least a couple of incidents of people apprehended near Grant Park that morning (before the protests got underway) carrying backpacks full of bricks, rocks, “feces bombs”, spray paint, and other riot supplies.
The lefties have been trying to recreate 1968 for some time.
Watching those cops bashing heads with their nightsticks makes it look like they have succeeded to some degree.

The protest organizers (IMO), the Black Bloc anarchists, and I think certain elements of the media too, would have loved a repeat of 1968. An opportunity to “wave the bloody shirt” for the news cameras all over again in support of their cause. You could see and hear it in the words of their media reps leading up to the summit and all these past few days. They were practically reading directly from Marxist scripts.
The answer, then, is to refuse to play their game...don’t give ‘em a frontal engagement, don’t let any of ‘em break away and try anything, just keep ‘em confined and walking in circles till they’re tired and yelled out. And when a confrontation’s inevitable, don’t take their bait and start the battle...force *them* to make the first move. THEN crush ‘em.
I have to say, overall this whole mess went FAR better than I expected.

We had to get shot at before we could shoot back and visually ID enemy planes before we could engage them in air to air. A lot of names turned up on the wall because of that kind of idiocy.

True, but still the wrong message. Eventually, these thugs will have to be met with overwhelming force/violence or they'll keep getting bolder. Until they start getting put down, it will only spread like a cancer until it overwhems this "Nation of Laws". This type restraint is just kicking the can down the road until it turns into all-out war.

Oh, I agree completely...unfortunately, when part of their strategy is to play the media like a violin, and elements of that same media are in open collusion with them, I don’t see what other option there was...outside of moving the whole summit somewhere else, which the average Chicagoan would have preferred!!
They were trying to manipulate the Chicago Police on an unbalanced battlefield...so the city had to manipulate them their own way.
