EDITORIAL: Obama, ceding from behind

President is surrendering America’s pre-eminent place in world affairs

President Obama is hosting two high-level international meetings in a week. He will offer his solutions to global economic and security issues. It’s doubtful the rest of the world is listening.

Mr. Obama’s international stature has decreased markedly since the heady days when he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after only 11 days in office. He has done little to earn the “down payment” prize, and now foreign leaders expect little from him. In that respect, he lives down to expectations.

Mr. Obama’s address at the opening of the NATO conference is a case in point. He discussed his plan to “responsibly” end the war in Afghanistan, which is itself a misnomer; the war will not end, just NATO’s involvement. He made the same points he’s been making for months, stressing that the withdrawal of U.S. forces doesn’t mean abandoning Afghanistan, even though most observers believe that’s exactly what is happening. “As Afghans stand up,” Mr. Obama said, “they will not stand alone.” The phrase comes across as just too pat. The president doesn’t believe it, the Afghans don’t believe it, and the speechwriter who put the line in the teleprompter probably didn’t believe it either.

NATO leaders from Eastern Europe no doubt remember the incident in March when an open mic caught a private moment the U.S. president had with Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev. “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space,” he said. “This is my last election.

Obama's little whisper fest with Medvedev caught on an open mic should have had all our elected representives in Washington calling for impeachment.

I just want the talk of the historic presidency to go away. Oh and the tingles up the leg.

They don't fear him and they don't respect him. He's a clown. They see him for what he is..... a fey, affirmative action charlatan on the level of an Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson with an Ivy League chip and communist tendencies.

He is the American Neville Chamberlin with Huey Long sauce and a dash of the little boy who was bullied left alone in the house with all the toys out running around and pretending he's a "big boy" now.

So pathetic. From the running theme of "great intellect" without the proof after Bush's, Gore's and all others transcripts were made public to the persistent use of a teleprompter in all public speaking engagements shows an intellectual deficit and laziness that borders on the pathetic.

It's like taking the student body president of the high school to the Oval Office and telling him that the Prime Minister of Russia is waiting to speak with him while the phone has Pakistan and India's governments threatening to blow each other up, and your secretary telling you that the Security Council need your policy to deal with multiple threats from anti-American/anti-Christian terrorist that are coming from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America... while you worry about your date to prom and your NCAA bracket.

How small and foolish he really seems. Such a road bump of a man. He represents the democrat quislings well. He's the president of my country and I have nothing to say that can be printed or written about this so called man.

I doubt anyone could have stated that better than you did, he's a young dumb boy in a grown up world.

Lord help us.

Mr. Obama’s international stature has decreased markedly since the heady days when he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize...

With Obama imploding America every chance he gets, who would take his advice at world nation-building?/p>

His assault on America's religious freedom is catastrophic (Catholics currently litigating); his assault on American states is ongoing (Arizona ring a bell?); his assault on America's right to bear arms (Fast and Furious) is headlining with Holder refusing to release evidence). His fabricated "war on women" is easily seen as a smokescreen to promote abortion and birth control (already available and not a political issue). Meanwhile he fundraises with the very people he bashes for being rich and abusive of the government tax structure.

November 2012 cannot come fast enough for most Americans who love America and who want to keep the freedoms we are losing via this administration.

You are so right, MamaDearest.

Anything regarding traditional American values Obama is against and he seems to side with our enemies rather than our allies.

It's shameful and anti-American!

American tradition seems to be a huge part of Obama's problem with America. He was emotionally into his speech about the "sweetest sound (Islam)." and was in awe of the foreigners to which he bowed. He's all about UN control and just signed a sea treaty wherein US sovereignty is raised while he redistributes America's wealth!

Will U.S. Sovereignty be lost at sea? Obama signs U.N. Treaty that redistributes drilling revenues

Snip: A proposed Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), which has been signed by President Obama but not yet ratified by Congress, will subordinate U.S. naval and drilling operations beyond 200 miles of our coast to a newly established U.N. bureaucracy. If approved, it will grant a Kingston, Jamaica-based International Seabed Authority (ISA) the power to regulate deep-sea oil exploration, seabed mining, and fishing rights.

As part of the deal, as much as 7% of U.S. government revenue that is collected from oil and gas companies operating off our coast will be forked over to ISA for redistribution to poorer, landlocked countries. This apparently is in penance for America’s audacity in perpetuating prosperity yielded by our Industrial Revolution.

Well stated. It doesn’t matter to him that the rest of the world is not listening - being the self-loving clown he is, he gets his rocks off listening to himself “lecture” the rest of the world.
