Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

Posted on 05/22/2012 8:47:57 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

Look for more and more articles from the mormon PR machine under the control of the Romney campaign. The CNN article is an example.

There are 3100 comments to the CNN article. Here is just one example. "The next president of US may very well put his his hand on the Book of Mormons for oath of office. Are you guys going to argue with POTUS that that book is NOT the words of Gods?"

Side note...the article mentions the Catholic bishops' fight against Obama's insurance mandate. I couldn't find a single article stating that the mormon church is joining in this fight. Why?

Man made mandates and mormonism go hand in hand.
This is what Joseph Smith wanted, total take over by the “saints” of the US government, they (”saints”) have worked hard for this moment in time.

The Mormon planned takeover of DC...a MORMOCRACY
Lds Leader Chronological 'Prophet' or Fundamental # (or Other Title) Overlap Areas: Could the President of the U.S. become a 'puppet' to an Lds 'Prophet?' (The Lds Prophets -- in their own words)
John Taylor Lds 'Prophet' #3 “The Almighty has established this kingdom with order and laws and every thing pertaining thereto…[so] that when the nations shall be convulsed, we may stand forth as saviours…and finally redeem a ruined world, not only in a religious but in a political point of view.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 9, p. 342, April 13, 1862)
Orson Hyde President of the Lds Quorum of the 12 Apostles for 28 years (1847-1875) “What the world calls ‘Mormonism’ will rule every nation...God has decreed it, and his own right arm will accomplish it. This will make the heathen rage.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 53)
Heber J. Grant Lds 'Prophet' #7 "Elder Marion G. Romney recalled the counsel of President Heber J. Grant: 'My boy, you always keep your eye on the President of the Church, and if he ever tells you to do anything, and it is wrong, and you do it, the Lord will bless you for it.' Then with a twinkle in his eye, he said, 'But you don't need to worry. The Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray'" (in Conference Report, Oct. 1960, p. 78)." Cited in Official Lds publication Search the Commandments: Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide, p. 209 (1984)
Harold B. Lee Lds 'Prophet' #11 ...President Harold B. Lee said: 'We must learn to give heed to the words and commandments that the Lord shall give through his prophet, '...as if from mine own mouth...(D&C 21:4-5)...You may not like what comes from the authority of the Church. It may contradict your political views. It may contradict your social views. It may interfere with some of your social life. But if you listen to these things, as if from the mouth of the Lord himself..." Cited in official Lds publication Remember Me: Relief Society Personal Study Guide I, p. 27 (1989)
Spencer Kimball Lds 'Prophet' #12 "President Spencer W. Kimball said: '...We deal with many things which are thought to be not so spiritual; but all things are spiritual with the Lord, and he expects us to listen, and to obey..." (In Conference Report, Apr. 1977, p. 8; or Ensign, May 1977, p. 7) Cited in official Lds publication Come, Follow Me: Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide 1983, p.12 (1983)
What about Marion G. Romney, cousin to Mitt's father? Who was he in Lds hierarchy? (Title: 'President' - Top 3 of church as 2nd counselor to both #11 & #12 Lds 'prophets') "Elder Neal A. Maxwell has said: 'Following the living prophets is something that must be done in all seasons and circumstances. We must be like President Marion G. Romney, who humbly said, '..I have never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional, and political life' (Conference Report, April 1941, p. 123). There are, or will be moments when prophetic declarations collide with our pride or our seeming personal interests...Do I believe in the living prophet even when he speaks on matters affecting me and my specialty directly? Or do I stop sustaining the prophet when his words fall in my territory? if the latter, the prophet is without honor in our country! (Things As They Really Are, p. 73). Cited in official Lds publication, Search the Commandments: Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide, pp. 275-276 (1984)
Ezra Taft Benson Lds 'Prophet' #13 Benson speech given 2/26/80 @BYU. Summary: “…remember, if there is ever a conflict between earthly knowledge and the words of the prophet, you stand with the prophet…” (See excerpts re: 3 of 14 'fundamentals' below) Source: Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet
Benson (cont'd) Fundamental #5 5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time. (My Q: Ya hear that Mitt Romney?)
Benson (cont'd) Fundamental #9 9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual. (My Q: Still listening, Mitt?)
Benson (cont'd) Fundamental #10 10. The prophet may advise on civic matters. (My Q: What say ye Mitt?)
B.H. Roberts LDS Historian and Seventy. Note: Roberts was an elected Democratic Congressman from Utah in 1898 -- but was NEVER seated by Congress because of grass roots uproar vs. Roberts, who took a THIRD simultaneous wife in the early 1890s. Grass roots America collected 7 MILLION signatures on 28 banners and presented them to Congress...in pre-mass media 1800s! “[T]he kingdom of God... is to be a POLITICAL INSTITUTION THAT SHALL HOLD SWAY OVER ALL THE EARTH; TO WHICH ALL OTHER GOVERNMENTS WILL BE SUBORDINATE AND BY WHICH THEY WILL BE DOMINATED.” The Rise and Fall of Nauvoo, 1900, p. 180
Mitt Romney as POTUS??? Aside from above prophetic impositions, why would Mitt not only honor what these 'prophets' have spoken, but what a future Lds 'prophet' may tell him to do? The Law of Consecration Oath Mitt Romney has sworn in the Mormon temple (done before marriage/sealing in temple): "You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and EVERYTHING with which the Lord has blessed you, or WITH which he MAY bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion." Source: What is an LDS Church/Mormon temple marriage/sealing? [Q: Please define 'Zion': The LDS PR Web site (lds.org) defines its primary meaning: "membership in the [LDS] church."]

Yup. Christian voters potentially elevating a counterfeit 'scripture' to be presented to the world as 'scripture.'

If this happens, might as well erect billboards nation-wide with a picture of the Book of Mormon...And the billboard message?

The Book of Mormon: PR'd to the max by permission and sanctioning and endorsement of your local Christian church members!

“I will be a second Mohammed to this generation…whose motto, in treating for peace, was ‘the Alcoran [Koran] or the Sword,’ so shall it be eventually with us, ‘Joseph Smith or the Sword.’
Statement by Joseph Smith is from the sworn affidavit of Thomas B. Marsh on October 24, 1838

LDS First Presidency Statement in 1978 say mentions Prophet Muhammad as one of ‘the great religious leaders of the world’ who received ‘a portion of God’s light.’

(No, that's only after they deak-dunk you by proxy and then convert you into a spirit missionary in the nether world to present the Mormon "gospel" to the dead)

Then you can go around wearing white dress shirts and ties and ride spirit-world bikes.

Oh. And I'm only half-joking.

Mormons really do believe they will have missionaries in the spirit world out there converting souls.

Here's an OFFICIAL Mormon church magazine, Liahona, elaborating this post-world scheme:

"The Latter-day Saint view of the spirit world reveals that there is missionary work being performed there. The most magnificent and extensive missionary program the mind can contemplate is centered in the spirit world. President Brigham Young declared: 'Compare those inhabitants on the earth who have heard the Gospel in our day, with the millions who have never heard it, or had the keys of salvation presented to them, and you will conclude at once as I do, that there is an almighty work to perform in the spirit world.'” (JD, 4:285.)
Source: The Spirit World, Our Next Home(The OTHER World Series: Mormon beliefs beyond this world)

And it's these kinds of gullible worldviews that voters of America want in the White House why? Let Mitt be your local dog catcher; somebody who's so vulnerable to deception hasn't earned the right character-wise to be THE leader of the free world.

Mormonism is very confusing to me and sorry to say-odd.

But that may just be my lack of knowledge; I’ve only known 2 Mormons in my life, one of them would sit at work all day and fantasize about getting married in the Temple or whatever they call it. And she did whatever her husband told her to do. She worked 2 full time jobs, while he went to school and then did his on the road Mormon stuff. That was all he did. He never worked or cooked or cleaned. They were both 21 and she was a smart girl too.and she wasn’t allowed to go to baby showers etc, with us girls....he wouldn’t even talk to any of us if he met her for lunch (she-the brown bag-he=takeout) He just gave me the creeps for some reason. (and yes, she wore the underwear even when it was 100 degrees)

The other one I know drinks coffee, alcohol and smokes and just recently got caught with someone who wasn’t her husband; but she claims she’s a strict Mormon and her husband and kids have all been made Mormons too. But no real sense of religion in that household..

I mean, I know they’re just like everyone else, but I just find them cult like because they are so insistent on their church as THE only way to get to Heaven etc...and I think it’s very plain in The Bible that Jesus is The Way-whatever rules and rituals you want to have, that is the bottom line. And as long as someone lives that Way, he/she will spend eternity with Him.

Just my daily 2 cents..back to work.

Huh? Romney could swear by a bag of potato chips if chips were important to him; it wouldn’t mean we’d all have to drop to our knees for the God of Potatoes. It matters not what anyone else thinks about the swearing object, just that it is something important to the one taking the oath and therefore more likely than other objects to induce him to keep it.

I take that back. I just remembered what Mitt did to his dog in a cross-country trip with his station wagon. Strapping his dog to the roof.

(I can just see Mitt the dog catcher goin' round...strapping dogs to the roofs of his vehicles)

Side note...the article mentions the Catholic bishops' fight against Obama's insurance mandate. I couldn't find a single article stating that the mormon church is joining in this fight. Why?

I used to think that Mormons were pro-life. But I no longer think they are reliably pro-life. Otherwise, why would they continue to vote for someone like Dingy Harry? Or why should they overwhelmingly support Bishop Romney, even though he has loudly declared that he is pro-choice. Then he says he is pro-life. Then he pushes through taxpayer-funded abortion in Massachusetts. And all through these flip flops, the rank and file Mormons continue to overwhelmingly support him.

Same with gay marriage. Mormons worked publicly and hard to block gay marriage in California, and earned a lot of leftist attacks. But they don't hestitate to support Romney, even though he has proven to be a gay activist who imposed the first gay marriage mandate in Massachusetts, leading the way for politicians in other states.

In other words, rank and file Mormons seem willing to do whatever their sect leaders tell them to do. Having living prophets is much the same as the liberals with their living constitution. It means, "Do whatever I say, and shut up."

“Christian voters potentially elevating a counterfeit ‘scripture’ to be presented to the world as ‘scripture.’”

The world is well aware that Mormonism exists and has a scripture. This wouldn’t do anything more to elevate that scripture, or rather anything more than electing a Mormon would. We’ve already had a congressman, Keith Ellison, swear by the Koran, and I don’t remember next day it being as important to the majority of Americans as the Bible.

The oath of office is a highly symbolic ritual. But the ritual is about the guy taking the oath and the oath he is taking, not about glorifying the object upon which he takes the oath. Like I said, he could swear by a bag of potato chips without altering the ceremony’s import. That is, if chips were as important to him as his religion, and that’s important to *him*, not us.

Huh?

"It matters not..."????????????????????????????

So...you're weirdly claiming that there's not millions of vulnerable kids out there...elementary-school kids...some high school kids...who might be taught by Romney's bully pulpit that the Book of Mormon is the "word of God"...and that a certain % of them will have their Mormon road moment carved out with that as the genesis?

Tell you what, then...let's be consistent...let's get other government officials -- your local teachers for example -- and get them to bring the Quran into your local classrooms and present that as a sacred holy book of God before vulnerable third thru sixth graders, eh?

How would like your kids, grandkids, relatives, and neighbors all to have such introductions to the Quran by your govt teachers?

Furthermore, if Obama won...and having won the second term, he could begin to "remove his mask," what if Obama elected to swear on the Quran?

You wouldn't have any issues with that?

You would actually think that thousands of FREEPERs and millions of conservatives wouldn't have any issue with that?

Pathetic...poorly thought-out thought processes there...because there's no way you can be consistent in this!!!!!!!!
