DC Comics plans to reintroduce a character as gay in a future issue, it has been revealed.
Co-publisher Dan DiDio previously said that the company would not change the sexual orientation of an existing superhero and would bring in a new one altogether.
But at Kapow Comic Convention in London on Sunday, he revealed that an existing character - who was previously assumed to be straight - will become ‘one of our most prominent gay characters’, according to comic blog BleedingCool.com.
Who is it? An existing DC Comics character - who was previously assumed to be straight - will become openly-gay Senior VP Sales Bob Wayne said DiDio’s view ‘had evolved’, comparing the shift to Barack Obama’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriage.
DiDio did not specify which character would ‘come out’ or in which issue it would be featured.

But Courtney Simmons, DC Entertainment’s senior vice president of publicity, told ABC News that it would be soon.
'One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June,' Simmons told the network.
Speculation: Some Twitter users assume Batman will come out as gay.

Yesterday I was leaning Green Arrow. Today I am going with Flash. He is major, but not one of the big three for DC.
I think it’s a desperate ploy to compete with the success of Marvel’s Avengers. A HEY-LOOK-AT-US kind of thing. Well, a bit of attention they’ll get, but not the right kind.
As a long-time comics fan and pro, I find this saddening.

DC Comics goes on the long list of companies I will no longer patronize.
Batman would be problematic because of all the NAMBLA jokes he'd be open to with all the Robins. Hell, they'd go from Dynamic Duo to (Un)Ambiguously Gay Duo.
As for Superman, after all the years of Lana Lang and Lois Lane (and every other L...L... female out there), suddenly coming out of the closet would be a major joke, and not a particularly funny one.
Perhaps there should be a write in campaign along the lines of the one that had the bad Robin replacement killed off in one of the books.
Kids read these things. Some creep will use it to justify destroying some child’s life.
DC USED to be the one who translated well to movies. Instead we have that total supplanted by marvel. DC already screwed up Batwoman.
When a superhero has no moral compass there is no story to square the actions of the charater. What next Captain Hedonism?

Totally sick. The whole culture has become sick and depraved. Every day, it’s another vomit-inducing story. On the positive side, if the whole country financially/socially collapses due to the debt, at least it won’t be such a terrible loss at this point.
Particularly sad when I think about DC Comics, and their great history, and their status as a part of americana. I think of those great patriotic WW2 covers to “World’s Finest Comics” and such.

In the past it has been a sideline character nobody cared about. The character fades to zero and disapears since nobody in their right mind wants to be seen buying, or reading a homosexual comic book.

perhaps there should be a ratings code for comic books. Sell whatever they want but make the publisher disclose the content. IE “H” for homosexual content and require it be sold out of reach of minors with any other sexual content material.
Superheros—much like G.I. Joe—have no private parts, therefore are asexual.
If not already done, cancel cable TV. Do not extend a contract with DISH or DirectTV. Use that beautiful new LCD bigscreen TV only a couple of times a week, or daily for the first 10 minutes of the evening local news.

The ultimate outcome? the homosexual caracter will be killed off or sent off and there will be a new “#1” issue with much fanfare relaunching the team.

There is a simple reason that homosexuality was suppressed. Once it is no longer a vice homosexuals, like liberals, look out for and promote their own and eventually take over all-male institutions like the military and the clergy. Exactly. The current DC heads didn’t originate these characters. If they want to make up a new homosexual character that would still be bad but not as bad as ruining a character against the intentions of the original author.

Let me just add - there have been thousands of civilizations and nations over the period of known human history. If homosexuality was normal, there would be at least someplace where it thrived and was widely accepted - and not as a brief, elitist fashion either, but as basic part of the culture. I know of none.

Both major comics lines long ago went from family friendly and all-American to across-the-board leftism. While I've never been a comic book person, I recognize its place in American popular culture.

With the New 52 relaunch last year, Barry Allen is the Flash again, and Wally West was retconned out.
So you never know—doesn't look like they have any other use for him, right now.
