WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate's top Democrat says Republicans will have to accept higher taxes on the rich and drop efforts to reshape Medicare if they want a deal on cutting the debt.
In a letter to GOP senators, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is blaming Republicans' "strict adherence to tea party ideology" for the failure of lawmakers to find a budget compromise.

Let’s start with a bigger tax on all Hollywood stars. I think all the libs at Google and Yahoo probably want to pay more taxes as well.

Well, Harry, resign your senate seat, get elected to the House, introduce a bill and get it passed.
Short of that, the only way taxes are going up is by the Bush tax cuts expiring. The House will not be sending the senate a tax increase bill anytime soon. So stop your worthless yammering.

I have had a similar thought for years on this matter.
We should allow the Democrats to raise taxes on the rich... but only those that were registered Democrats in 2008 (to keep them from switching parties now to avoid taxes)
Rich Democrats are ALWAYS saying they should pay more taxes! I say... well lets tax THEM! and only them.

"Tea Party ideology?"
Does Harry Reid have any sense? Any integrity? He certainly does not have both.
Prior to the 16th Amendment (1913) it was unConstitutional to tax one American more than another. Under Article I, Sec. 9, any direct tax had to be per capita. That meant that if Joe the Plumber was taxed $5, J.P. Morgan would be taxed $5, no more no less.
What is my point? It is not those who refuse to agree to punitive taxes on the wealthy, who are driven by ideology. The principles of the Constitution, as of the Declaration, were grounded in experience--see America: Grounded In Experience & Reason. Where "ideology" comes in is with those who seek to use Government to level society--to impose Marxist or other Leftist theories on the population.
If Harry Reid understands this, he is a dishonest scoundrel. If he does not understand this, he is too stupid to be trusted. It is entirely consistent with his performance on many subjects that he is both a dishonest scoundrel & too stupid to be trusted. Am I being unfair? What do you think the men that served under General Washington would have thought of Harry Reid? The men who risked everything to vindicate what Harry Reid dismisses as "Tea Party ideology," under a wealthy leader, whose family achievements Harry would have sought to confiscate?

As soon as every Dem Congressman, every Lib talking head, Pundit, Blogger & Celebrity who advocate “Tax the Rich” and who make over $250,000 a year write out a check to the IRS for the percentage which they have publicly espoused, then I will listen to their drivel.

Hey squirrel-ly, maybe its just your strict adherence to communism that is causing the rub.

By the largess of their gain, the rich do pay ! 15% of 100 is far more than l5% of 10. Since it is obvious that love no longer makes the world go around, then money has taken it’s place. And while liars figure, figures cannot lie. How sad that people no longer are capable of thinking for themselves!

The elected representatives who have been proponents of big government programs should repay their share of the debt they have piled upon my children’s children by relinquishing all of their personal property for the common good. Socialists ought to be happy to share their wealth with the rest of us. Its their gospel, not mine.

With the horrific *ssclowns in congress, it’s always the same - just like pigs and slops - “More, More, More, More!!!!”
P*ssing away the hard-earned dollars of Amerricans has become both an art form and an endless comedy with them.
Or perhaps one should say an endless slapstick farce.
