Evening, all!

On the one hand, I'm thankful that I don't have to drive anywhere near the bridge over the Narrows to get to work. On the other, I hear it was quite a view watching the ships sailing today. One coworker wanted to just stop and watch and skip work.

Shoulda made a detour...

Coverups Stink
May 24, 2012

The smell at an overflowing garbage landfill site became a growing public concern. So workers installed high-pressured deodorant guns to counteract the smell. The cannons could spray several gallons of fragrance a minute over a distance of up to 50 yards across the mounds of putrefying garbage. However, no matter how many gallons of deodorant are sprayed to mask the odorous rubbish, the fragrance will serve only as a coverup until the source of the stench is removed.

King David tried a coverup as well. After his adultery with Bathsheba, he attempted to use silence, deceit, and piety to mask his moral failures (2 Sam. 11–12). In Psalm 32 he talks about experiencing the intense convicting hand of God when he remained silent (vv.3-4). Unable to withstand the conviction any longer, David uncovered his sin by acknowledging, confessing, and repenting of it (v.5). He no longer needed to cover it because God forgave him.

It’s futile to try to hide our sin. The stench of our disobedience will seep through whatever we use to try to cover it. Let’s acknowledge to God the rubbish in our hearts and experience the fresh cleansing of His grace and forgiveness.

Father, I know that I cannot hide my sins from You
for You know what’s in my heart. I confess them
now to You. Cleanse me, forgive me, and help
me to make a brand-new start. Amen.
Own up to your sin and experience the joy of confession.

Read: Psalm 32:1-5

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. —Psalm 32:1
Bible in a Year:
Job 35-37

Almost every evening when I come home from work lately, a pair of Mallard ducks seem to be waiting on the front lawn. Doesn’t seem an overly safe place, what with dogs, kids, stupid kids, etc. But as soon as I come back with cracked corn, they approach cautiously, wait til I throw out some corn, then start dining, always with an eye on their surroundings.

We have them at odd times, all year round, in the back yard, with a creek running through it, but the front seems weird.

I really would like some rain....and I’m sure it’s just springtime.

TS, at post #6 remembered. I’m, right now, working on a post...

This is what I found so far...and yes, I’m a day late. What a great sight it would have been to see. Have you seen one before?

Fleet Week 2012 NYC

Since 1984, New York City has held Fleet Week to honor the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The week features extensive military demonstrations, as well as the opportunity for the public to tour some of the visiting ships. The Memorial Day commemoration is a highlight of the week’s festivities, featuring the singing of Taps and a military aircraft fly over in honor of those who lost their lives in service to the United States.

Parade of Sail

The Parade of Sail marks the official beginning of Fleet Week, with a parade of ships entering the New York Harbor from below the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and making their way around to Manhattan’s west side. The 2012 Parade of Ships will take place on Wednesday, May 23 from approximately 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The best places to view the Parade of Ships are from along the New York Harbor, including Battery Park, Hudson River Park, and Shore Road Park (Brooklyn) and, Red Hook (Brooklyn).

A pinch of this...a dash of that...

A pea jacket is actually a "jacket jacket."
The "pea" part of its name is from the Dutch word pij,
which is a sailor's garment.

Despite their finickiness,
an average cat consumes about 127,750 calories a year,
nearly 28 times their own weight in food
and the same amount again in liquids.
In case you were wondering,
cats cannot survive on a vegetarian diet.

A dog's nose has over 200 scent receiving cells.

A day on the planet Mercury
is twice as long as its year.
Mercury rotates very slowly
but revolves around the Sun in slightly less than 88 days.

I've got to make my rounds and then get to work.
Today is my last work day for the next 6 days.
So I have lots to do before leaving today.
Not to worry, I'll be back and I have the thread to post tonight
and can stay a little later than norm.
Please stay.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!

Come in and sit for a while.

There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

PLEASE REMEMBER THEM ....

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT
