In Memoriam: The Old Obama, Who Wanted to Bring People Together
ABC News ^ | 23 May 2012 | MATT NEGRIN

The 2004 version of Barack Obama, who captured the nation with a dazzling speech about unity and went on to win the presidency on a message of hope, died on Monday. He was 8 years old.

The cause of death appeared to be a bitter realization that he needed to win reelection in an increasingly partisan political environment, a cancer that he had been battling for months if not years.

Obama's illness got the best of him late Monday, as he announced that his campaign for four more years in the White House would be based not on optimism, but rather the shady corporate record of his opponent, Mitt Romney, who ran a private-equity firm that few Americans knew about before this year.

Obama's announcement was a stark contrast to the speech that catapulted him into his party's sights eight years ago, when he electrified Democrats at their quadrennial convention.

"There is not a liberal America and a conservative America," Obama declared to cheers at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. "There is the United States of America.

"We are one people," Obama roared, perhaps envisioning his political future as the crowd rose to its feet. "All of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America."

And strangely enough, it was in that very speech that Obama predicted his own demise. Just before his climactic applause line, the future president issued a stark warning.

"Even as we speak," he said, "there are those who are preparing to divide us -- the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers, who embrace the politics of anything goes."

On May 21, 2012, more than three years after he was sworn into office, Obama confessed at a press conference in his hometown, Chicago, that he had become one of those peddlers........................Can't wait to see this loser unemployed.

This loser is the most overrated POTUS, if the media had properly vetted him the majority of voters would have known it.

who do they think they are kidding?

He was never in favor of “bringing people together”. That is nothing more than tired sloganeering. He was a partisan community agitator, conflict was his cash cow.

When they went after Joe the Plumber for asking a question, was that bringing people together too?

He never wanted to “bring people together”.

He’s a far left scam artist who does whatever it takes to get power to change our Republic into a to a totalitarian socialist state.

Wow, it is ABC, and all should read the comments to the article.

It looks like about 99% negative for obummer.

He’s taking a beating.

It is my opinion that obammy was and is a mere puppet to those who control him—like Ayres and his ilk..

I doubt that obammy has had an independent thought or opinion of his own—ever!

One thing I can say for him, though—he seems to have plenty of arrogance!

I’ve noticed that more and more lately - “the people” aren’t putting up with the regular biased media spin, and are speaking out in large numbers.

All thanks to Al Gore’s Internet!

Yes Obama was the untested naive One who felt with him as the world's irresistible leader, the entire world would just beg to follow.
That was the extent of his formula for uniting everyone. He'd speak, they'd listen, they'd follow. Success was always build on an unfounded confidence in his own power of persuasion.

With him as its leader all would see the light and change.

And now that his beautiful, self-centered attempts at unity failed he blames those who failed to fall in line. He's a narcissist.

The guardians of Democracy caused this. We all knew Obama was a Marxist. The media hid it and John McCain let them. In addition, McShame made sure the one person who could have made a difference be sacrificed...

McCain killed Sarah Palin and our future.

A deeply flawed article that is based on two problematic assumptions: that Obama wanted to bring people together, regardless they agree with him or not, and that Obama changed because of Republicans pressure.

Sarah Palin and what she stands for will be around long after McCain is gone.
