Obama: “Since I’ve Been President, Federal Spending Has Risen at Lowest Pace in Nearly 60 Years’ By Terence P. Jeffrey May 24, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday staked his claim to being the most effective fiscal conservative to serve in the White House in more than half a century.

“Since I’ve been President, federal spending has risen at the lowest pace in nearly 60 years,” Obama said at a campaign event in Denver, Colorado.

“Yes, we're going to streamline government,” Obama said. “There's more waste to be cut.”

Inaugurated in Jan. 20, 2009, Obama has now presided over the start of three fiscal years—2010, 2011, and 2012. According to the historical tables published by his own Office of Management and Budget, these are three of the only four fiscal years since the Japanese surrendered on Sept. 2, 1945, that the federal government has spent more than 24 percent of GDP.

The fourth fiscal year since the Japanese surrender in which the federal government spent more than 24 percent of GDP was 2009. That fiscal year started when George W. Bush was president and ended when Obama was president.

On the first day of fiscal 2009--which was Oct. 1, 2008--then-Sen. Obama voted for the $700-billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. In February 2009, after he became president and while his party controlled both houses of Congress, Obama signed a stimulus bill that the Congressional Budget Office has determined had a 10-year price tag of $831-billion.

In fiscal 2008, the federal government had spent 20.8 percent of GDP. But in fiscal 2009, buoyed in part by the TARP Obama voted for and the stimulus he signed, the federal government spent 25.2 percent of GDP--an increase of 21.2 percent from the year before.

Obama and Bill Ayers are both post-modernists.

They believe there is no absolute truth. They believe that whatever they say the truth is...is the truth.

Regular folks would just say they are liars!

It only comes out that way when 2009 (the entire year) is blamed on George W. Bush.

It was thoroughly debunked by Rush today.

The outright lying is astounding. He knows he has a sycophantic media to back him up.

[[They believe there is no absolute truth. They believe that whatever they say the truth is...is the truth.]]

you may be right, or another possibility is that they know they are lying, but are simply throwing hteir lies right smack in our faces and almost daring aNYONE to call him to the carpet for it knowing full well that noone ever will- He’s so arrogant I beleive that he thinks he can say anything he wants, and noone has a right to challenge him on it- He’s a compelte narcicist

Measured as a change in spending as a percentage of GDP? Good lord that’s a tortured way of measuring it. But the idiots who vote won’t be able to figure that out. Romney needs to say who cares about percentage growth. Obama has run up more debt than all other presidents combined and be done with it.

I saw a soundbite on FNC today of Zero saying he inherited a trillion dollar deficit and signed into law cuts of 2 trillion dollars. Uh-huh. Let’s see the “news” media vet that, or are they still too busy digging up dirt on Romney?

Here’s the Dem argument:

Once Obama got in power, the year-to-year % increases under him were smaller than any time in the previous 60 years.

TRUE, BUT ....

... what they don’t mention is the extraordinary ratching-up of federal spending in 2008-09 - all the stimuluses, etc. After that one year, Obama KEPT the spending up there (with only that small increase they’re bragging about now), wasting that extra money on green-energy fiascos, giveaways to corporations, subsidized health-care for political pals, etc.

So now, the country is getting huge budget deficits every year, yet Team Obama has the nerve to claim they’re “holding the line on spending”.

What a fraud.
