Whatever theyre putting in Jay Carneys birthday cake, I want some. During a gaggle aboard Air Force One today, the just-47 White House Press Secretary woke up a sleepy press corps with a rant about fact-checking Republican talking points that, relatively speaking, nearly veered into Sam Kinison territory. Quoting from a recent MarketWatch commentary, Carney told the press do not buy into the BS about the Obama spending record, and that doing so is a sign of sloth and laziness.
The substance of Carneys rant is really quite simple: you see Republican flacks appearing on cable news shows all the time spouting unmitigated garbage about President Obama exploding the debt, choking off US oil production, overregulating businesses, and spending like a drunken Romney, while rarely being challenged on the facts.
Whats remarkable about this is that, in over three years of covering this White House, I dont think Ive ever seen anything remotely interesting come out of an Air Force One gaggle. I usually peruse the transcripts just to stay on top of things, but the gaggles are normally brief, matter-of-fact affairs. Additionally, Carney wasnt even provoked to go the eff off, he just did it. After answering a routine housekeeping question, Carney said this to the sleepy press corps:

Jay is just upset because someone said he looked like Rachel Maddow in drag.
Is there a rehab place for the Jay Carney’s of the world??
I happened to be sitting in the waiting area of my local Car-X yesterday when Megan Kelly was talking about this. She had an apt simile, I’ll paraphrase: Suppose I work at a company doing the same thing as you. Year 1, I demand a $1,000,000 annual salary, but you start at $350,000. Each year for 3 years, you ask for, and are given a raise. I claim to be more frugal, because I haven’t asked for any raises, even though the 4-year cost for my wages totalled more than the 4-year cost for yours.
The thing is, Obama has realized he can throw out such lies and distortions through his media and knows the sheeple will get the soundbite. By the time any truth gets exposed, it’s too late, and his supporters have got the message: “Bush spent a lot mo moneys than my man.”
