The news Monday that 43 different Catholic entities across the country are suing the Obama administration, in response to the Health and Human Services' (HHS) rule mandating employer health care coverage of contraception, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilization, comes as a blow to the president's strength among Catholics, a demographic that helped carry him to victory in 2008.
This news comes on the heels of the the latest CBS News/New York Times poll which finds Mitt Romney now leading President Obama among women, yet another demographic that he previously commanded.
If Mr. Obama was hoping to once again rely on Catholics and women to help carry him to electoral success in 2012, it appears as though he is miscalculating.
A recent survey by the Pew Research Center shows that, despite the administration’s self-portrayal as the champion of “women’s issues” amidst a supposed Republican “war on women,” the president’s reelection advantage among women has declined in recent months as well as with another key demographic -- Catholics.

The Pew survey finds that, among Catholic voters with an opinion, 47% would today vote for President Obama, and 52% for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
That same margin, were it to hold on Election Day, would mark a swing of 18 million voters away from Obama.
The loss of these Catholic votes alone would remake the 2008 electoral map, delivering Florida to Governor Romney and leaving the president no margin for error in Colorado or Ohio.

The Obama administration no doubt knew it would lose some support with Catholics in the mandate. But they surely did not anticipate the strong and unified voice with which Catholic leaders, in particular bishops, responded even after the administration offered a compromise widely rejected as an accounting gimmick.

The guy actually can’t be that bright. What percent of women REALLY care if some rich spoiled slut at a Catholic can’t get the government to pay for her birth control. Maybe the 10% of the radical liberal women.
Yet, he makes it so a man can enter and use a woman’s bathroom\locker room. I bet 90% of women hate the idea of a guy walking in on their bathroom.

He’ll arrange a holographic visitation from the Virgin of Guadalupe with a symphony playing. She will pray to him. It’ll be a two’fer—Catholics and Central Americans.
It’s sad that it’s as high as 47%.

Nationwide, Obama had 9.55 million more ballots cast for him (counting fictional, dead, and other fraudulent votes) than McCain received. A swing of 18 million votes would basically give Romney the same margin of victory as Obama had, along with a significant electoral victory given the geographic distribution of Catholics. It’s hard to get excited about Romney in any way, but I will celebrate when it’s announced that Obama has been defeated and again when a real swearing in ceremony removes the communist from our White House.
Note: I also pray that we can send a conservative House and Senate to DC to restrain any big government impulses from whichever liberal wins in November. That priority is why all conservatives must vote in the down-ticket races, regardless of their feelings for Romney.

The 14 points lower are from an unknown number. That essential bit of information was left out. No need for you to extrapolate on that number being 100. That would be false.
We don't KNOW how many Catholics are for/anti-abortion, do we? We just 'know' that there are less now who are pro-abortion.
These are all magical, practically meaningless numbers. IMHO.
Well, I wasn't talking about Catholics, I assume they are pro-life. You'll notice I referred to "catholics".
