Except for the different colored-license plates and the fact that smoking is still allowed in restaurants in Nevada, we would have never known the difference between the two states we drove through. The roads were just the same, the restaurants were just as overpriced, and the scenery was the same, and the ski slopes were just as incorrectly graded. Yet, the times when we drove from California into Nevada we drove from the highest-taxes state to one of the lowest-taxed states.

Agree 100%. I’m from Tahoe and regularly ski Heavenly, so I ski from one state to the other.
...and don’t yell at me for staying here. California liberals would love it if the conservatives just left. Well, they’d love it until they figured out we are the only ones paying taxes.

Let the Sacramento DemoRATS choke on it. They are too stupid to know when to turn off their “tax and spend” addiction to power. They have destroyed the once greatest state in the country.
Ditto.
BTW, I feel the exact same way about the Fedgov.
I too live in the Sierra on the California/Nevada border. Love Nevada, but love the outstanding beauty of where I live in California. The state govern't sucks here though.
This is an unusual perspective. I doubt doing this comparison even occurs to most of us. I’ve visited both Tahoes as well as Carson City and Reno areas and it never occurred to me. Most Californians would probably attribute the difference in personal taxes to big tax money from casinos.
This article doesn’t actually give any figures for per capita spending in the two states. Looking up those figures, it is $7,300 in NV and $11,000 in CA. So casino taxes are not the answer. CA really is spending 50% more per capita than NV.
