U.N. Law Of The Sea Treaty Must Be Stopped
IBD editorials ^ | May 23, 2012

Geopolitics: The administration begins the push for ratification of a 1982 treaty that would end America's sovereignty on the high seas, limit our freedoms on land and speed up the global redistribution of wealth and power.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told Sen. John Kerry's Senate Foreign Relations Committee last Wednesday that the freedom of the sea once guaranteed by the British Royal Navy and then the U.S. Navy should be in the hands of United Nations bureaucrats in Montego Bay, Jamaica, enforcers of the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) he said we must ratify.

It used to be that a carrier battle group led by 90,000 tons of American diplomacy was sufficient to ensure that no nation could threaten our freedom of navigation and that of other countries.

But the nation whose motto was "we win, they lose" under President Reagan is replacing it with President Obama's "mother, may we?"

"If we are not a party to this treaty and can't deal with it at the table, then we have to deal with it at sea with our naval power, and once that happens, we clearly increase the risk for confrontation," Panetta told members of the committee.

Once upon a time, other nations were afraid of us; now we're afraid of them.

As Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is a Quisling.

We seem to have a whole family of them in our country starting with Obama going down to the lowly Hillary.

If the Senate ratifies this mess the whole bunch needs to be run out of the country. Any republican that votes for it joins the traitorous Dems and should leave the Republican party.

Of course the Democrats will vote for it if Obama says so, They are under his spell. Not an individual thought in the bunch.

Bush was for this too. His state dept was working hard for this. I’m not sure what’s in it for GOPe, but this is not just an Obama thing. Also, our treasonous admirals are for it. Despicable.

Not only LOST, and Agenda 21 that is quickly snaking its way through local, and State government in the form of ICLEI, but the entire U.N. operation must be stopped period.

Get the U.N. the “H” out of our business, our lives. THEY are not a part of our Constitution, and haven’t any business in our land.

The U.N. is somebody else’s promise, not ours.

I don't know if Flip-Flopper Mittens has had a change of heart (I hope not) but in 07 he opposed this treaty.

What is most disturbing is that there are apparently 15 - 20 Repulib-Tard Senators who are leaning toward or definitely going to support it, including the usual RINO suspects such as McLame and Snowe.

Someone needs to get a list somehow and then put pressure on any of those who are up for re-election this year or in 2014 and let them know we "will be watching."

we clearly increase the risk for confrontation

With who? Who is going to confront us?

And if someone like China were to violate the treaty, who is going to enforce it?

This is a law the liliputians pass that ties down only us. Is the UN going to take the Somalis to court? Will it take China to court? If someone flouts the law, like Saddam flouting his 18 UN Resolutions, who is going to enforce them?

Once upon a time, other nations were afraid of us; now we’re afraid of them.

Nonsense. WE (America, American Military) are not afraid of them.
Our spineless politicians and media are afraid of every one and every thing.
We need to protect our Constitution and Country from ALL enemies..

You said, ‘if a republican votes for it’. The GOPe is for this . They will resist it little more than they resisted the global warming fraud. This only because most voters hate LOST, thinking it an idiotic show on TV.

As nutty as that sounds,,, in some places that’s not a bad idea. I was reading that the LOST authority can do things like regulate farming in Iowa. The fertilizer used, runs into the Mississippi, and then in the gulf. If an activity can be alleged to influence anything in the ocean, it falls under LOST.

Yeah they can also tell you where to fish and what fish you can catch, how many crabs you can catch, what cities do with their sewage.

For me, I believe our own politicians are great at passing stupid regulations we dont need a pack of Muslims at the UN doing it for them.

Voting for the law of the sea means that you won’t even be able to drill a well without permission from the UN.

We should be getting out of the UN not giving it the right to tell us what we can do with our water.

You want an international body made up of about half Muslims telling the US what kind of fertiliser to use?

Think that over real hard.

Absolutely not, the not ‘not a bad idea’ is about what you said. Abandoning the GOP,, especially in some hopeless locales, to become a dem dem and undermine their primaries, etc.

I mentioned Iowa farmers just to illustrate how dangerous and all encompassing LOST is. You are dead on about Moslem countries regulating fertilizer use on the great plains. LOST is the biggest loss of sovreignty we could ever imagine.

The GOPe, Bush, the navy, and Obama are trying to make the dream of the UN come true. A source of funding that is a global tax, not just dues.
