Mandatory Arabic in NYC School?

RUSH: Here's Alan in Bayside, Queens, great to have you on the EIB Network, Alan. Hello.

CALLER: Yes, good afternoon, Mr. Limbaugh. Had a question for you, sir.

RUSH: Yes, sir, fire away.

CALLER: Do you think a school has any place telling our kids what secondary language to learn?

RUSH: I know what you're talking about. This is about Arabic being taught, right?

CALLER: Yes, in New York, in the upper part of the city.

RUSH: Yeah. Well, Arabic may be new, but aren't there plenty of school districts that require a second language to be taught?

CALLER: But by second, to fifth graders?

RUSH: Well, yeah, don't misunderstand, I'm not defending it.

CALLER: I know, sir.

RUSH: You asked me if I've ever heard of a school requiring a secondary language. Some schools in America require English as a secondary language.

CALLER: Understood, sir. I lost my way to say this. Rush, I understand learning a second language in high school. You know, I was asked to learn Spanish, it was part of our curriculum. But telling a bunch of second through fifth grade elementary school children that twice a week for 45 minutes they have to sit in a classroom and learn a language that they, pardon me, no matter what the teachers and the principal seem to think, may have no use for?

RUSH: Well, that's where they're probably wrong. They have no use for it. Somebody clearly intends 'em to have a use for it.

CALLER: Yes, sir, obviously, but --

RUSH: You know what I would do if I'm upset about this, I'd call the NAGs. I would call the National Organization for Women, because, you know, what is the plight of women in Arab countries? Saudi Arabia? They can't drive cars. They can't go out in public without a burqa. They can't go out in public without permission of their husbands, need chaperones and stuff. All of that's gonna be part and parcel of learning the language.

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: To be able to understand those commands. "You cannot go outside without my permission." The NAGs could probably stop this.

CALLER: But would they, sir?

RUSH: No. Probably not.

CALLER: Yeah, my wife and I were married recently. We're getting ready to start a family.

RUSH: Let me ask you this.

CALLER: What kind of world would we be bringing them into?

RUSH: Yeah, I hear you. Is this school district in Bayside, is it allowed to require English to be taught?

CALLER: Well, it's in Hamilton Heights specifically, sir, and I'm not sure.

RUSH: Oh, it's technically Hamilton Heights, yeah.

CALLER: Yeah, they're just saying it's -- apparently that it's a critical need language, they're saying about Arabic.

RUSH: Well, maybe the Department of Homeland Security needs some new employees. Maybe they're running short. The TSA might need some people.

CALLER: (laughing) Pardon me, sir.

RUSH: You can laugh. You can laugh.

CALLER: You're probably absolutely right, which is what I found so funny.

RUSH: I saw the story. Look, I'm like you. Somebody's gotta interpret Sharia law. I guarantee you that that's what's the foundation for this is. Nobody's gonna tell you that. Nobody's gonna say that's the reason, but somebody's gotta interpret Sharia law down the road.

CALLER: Certainly. They want someone --

RUSH: You know, the thing is, the Hispanics thought they had the second language racket racked up, and now look.

I might be FOR this if these kids went on to a career in the Military or FBI, but I’ll bet the school district will make reading the koran mandatory along with verbal diarrhea about how “progressive” it is.

I unfortunately live here in New York city and it’s already run under despotism so I guess the libs here want to try a little more and go all out for Sharia law. This city is so filled with suicidal masochists it’s unreal.

Good luck to those students who set out to learn Arabic. Arabic is a tough language for English speakers to learn—even tougher than other Semitic languages such as Hebrew. Whereas a good student can read a newspaper in French, Spanish, German or even Russian after about a year of studying the language, I have been told by those who have studied the language that it takes about four years of study before one can read a newspaper in Arabic.

Yup, things like this on the surface are a good idea in and of themselves, but whenever the uber-progressive NYC school system is involved, count on the fact that there'll be a healthy dose of propaganda along with it.

Remember these great believers in "separation of church and state" in the NYC school board were setting up separate prayer rooms that only the little junior jihadists were allowed to use. Try getting a room set aside for Christian Bible study after scool hours in one of these buildings.

A student forced to learn Arabic should learn how to say things like the following (in Arabic, of course).
1) “You are an adulterous whore and will now be stoned to death.”
2) “You need a clitorectomy to help you maintain your virtue, lest you become an adulterous whore and end up being stoned to death.”
3) “Put on a burka! You look like an adulterous whore who should be stoned to death.”
4) “The instructor is an infidel whore that is a cross between a pig and a monkey.”
When it is time to practice speaking they can recite one of these, deliberately stumbling across a couple of words to give the impression of a student earnestly trying to learn.

I was once told that if I wished to learn a second language, I should choose one with either military or economic significance.

Spanish has no military and only limited economic value.

Arabic has both. So does Russian.

Who is teaching the course??

Does the curriculum include the teaching of the Muslim religion? about sharia law??

Will these courses proselytize students turning them into Muslims as prisons do??

After 9/11 I thought EVERYBODY should learn Arabic. But I’m not sure where this school is coming from.

I think we Americans do suffer from not learning other languages. It seems to me that most educated Brits have always learned French, but I could be wrong about that.

And only a generation ago most well educated Americans (at least Catholic ones like my parents) learned Latin.

The USA is almost 6,000 miles from Key West, Florida, to Nome, Alaska, with 300+ million English speakers. Nothing like it in world history. English has become the language of technology, too.

Just since the ‘60s, Japanese, Arabic and now Chinese seemed to be the ‘necessary’ language. Truth is, everybody in the world except the USA is migrating toward English.

Considering India, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, countries like Germany where knowledge of English is common... All countries where English is either 1st or 2nd, it is understandable English is 1st in the world (or should be).

“...everybody in the world except the USA is migrating toward English”

Yes, that’s true, of course. In fact I saw some news pix the other day of riot cops dealing with some pretty rowdy demonstrators. I can’t remember where it was, maybe Greece? I’m really not sure, but where ever it was on the cops’ shields it said POLICE in plain English. It also said the same thing in the country’s language of course. (Or maybe it said 2 for 1 Tuesday at the local ice cream parlor, how would I know?)

The reason I say maybe Greece, was that what ever nation this was this did not use the Roman alphabet.

I was very surprised to see that, I even wondered if the English had been photo-shopped in, but I didn’t know why anyone would be bothered to do that. It was very clear what was going on and who was who.

English is a great language, of course, because it picks up from so many other languages, it has a lot of nuance to it and is also very efficient. Gosh darn hard to spell though.

I’ve often wondered - do they have Spelling Bees in any other language?

I have been told by those who have studied the language that it takes about four years of study before one can read a newspaper in Arabic.

That figures .... when you have to learn to read all the nasty stuff interpolated between the lines, I suppose it can be a load.

OTOH, you have to read TIME or the WaPo at least three times, and that's just for native English speakers -- once to see what they're beefing about this time, once to read all the political messages between the lines, and a third time so you can figure out for yourself why they want you to believe all their crap, and what their operational objective in writing the storylie was -- 'scuse me, I meant storyline.

"soetoro will be reading “three little pigs” to the children in arabic."

They don't like pigs, remember?

I think I'll write a brand-new story, completely unrelated to anything published before, called "The Three Little Meerkats".

It will tell how the meerkats are terrorized threatened by a fierce baboon, which destroys one house of straw, and another of sticks, but cannot damage a house of bricks.

Translated into Arabic, it should sell very well.
