Ditch plans for same-sex marriage, voters tell MPs (UK: Cameron still “liberal conservative”)

Plans to legalize same-sex marriage are the number one issue in MPs’ postbags—with an overwhelming majority of voters opposed to the move—according to a new poll.

The survey of MPs from across the political spectrum by ComRes also shows that only one in 25 parliamentarians believes that allowing gay unions is a main priority for voters.

The poll comes in the wake of a growing number of Conservative heavyweights declaring that they do not support moves to allow same-sex marriage by law by the time of the next election, May 2015.

Last week, Downing Street backed down by signaling that there would a “free vote” on the issue in parliament—as is traditional with matters of conscience—in what has become a divisive issue for the coalition.

Earlier senior sources had indicated that the measure would be “whipped”—meaning that ministers would have to support government plans. …

David Cameron is said to remain firmly committed to allowing same-sex marriage—despite his stance being held at least partly to blame by some Tory MPs for his party’s poor showing in this month’s local elections. Liberal Democrat ministers are strong supporters of the move. …

Is the term liberal-conservative in the same family as jumbo shrimp or smart democrat or Obama’s small ears?

Cameron is a loser. The Tories are worse than the RINOs over here.

Well over there, it’s “jumbo prawn”, so that’d get lost in translation . . .

Vote UKIP if you live in the UK.

They might be a bit too libertarian for my taste, if I were living over that way now—but I would certainly get them on the ballot in the Republic of Ireland. However, their “proportionate” thingy when it comes to Israel would have to be dropped . . .
UKIP supports the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state. UKIP rejects calls for Israel to be punished for defending itself from attack. Yet UKIP calls on Israel to continue to ensure its military actions remain proportionate and to pursue a political solution to a political problem.
That perpetuates the “Palestinian” problem (a people that does not exist—a false name the Arabs gave themselves—and that is not itself interested in a “political solution”) and gets in the way of Israel truly defending itself and asserting its rights.

What the hell is wrong with the elites of the political class? The right and left both seem to think THEY know better than the people about what constitutes moral judgement.

The political class needs a new vision: they are SERVANTS of the people.

I had high hopes when Cameron came on the scene. Too bad it appears he is just a politico know it all, and somehow enamored with the idea of celebrating sodomy. Disgusting.

UKIP supports Israel, unlike many in Europe, I agree that we shouldn’t even (as conservatives in any nation-of any stripe give an inch to the terrorist PA), however they are merely stating the same “PC” stance as current PM BB N.

UKIP may have a libertarian streat, but by and large they are common sense conservatives-if I lived over there I would SURE vote for them over voting for the milk-warm Tories.

Cameron isn’t perfect, but at least he is protecting sovereignty (kicking and screaming albeit) and has plans to protect his boarders. I have a feeling we will be invading mainland Europe with the man at some point in the next few years so we might as well put gay marriage aside for the time being. He is much more liberal than anyone I would want on this side of the pond, but he is obviously pragmatic enough that we can work with him.

Agreed. Whatever happened to the Maggie Thatchers and Winston Churchills of their party?
