Dershowitz Doubles Down on Trayvon Martin Case
familysecuritymatters.org ^ | 25 May, 2012 | ROGER ARONOFF

Posted on 05/27/2012 6:28:18 AM PDT by marktwain

As part of a recent AIM Report, I wrote briefly about the release of documents last week in the George Zimmerman case. Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin. But more has come out since then, and attorney Alan Dershowitz has stepped up his criticism of the special prosecutor in Florida who brought the charges. Here is what I wrote:

As we are going to press, a trove of documents was released on the George Zimmerman case that appears to bolster his defense that he is not guilty of second degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin. Back in March, ABC News released video that led Al Sharpton and many other media pundits to declare it as proof that there was a conspiracy by the police, along with Zimmerman, to allow this "white Hispanic" to get away with the murder of a young, black man.

The Washington Post headlined their above-the-fold story on the new documents, "Martin was shot at close range." But other reports noted that the newly released pictures were consistent with Zimmerman's story. He had bloody lacerations on the back of his head, two black eyes, his nose was swollen, and as a doctor's report released earlier in the week showed, his nose was broken. Martin's autopsy showed there were injuries to his knuckles.

There are also previously unreleased eyewitness and ear-witness reports indicating that Zimmerman was being pummeled by Martin. But there was a report from the Sanford police's lead investigator that there was probable cause to charge Zimmerman. And one policeman said this could have all been avoided had Zimmerman never left his car. But as attorney Mark Geragos pointed out on CNN's AC360 with Anderson Cooper, this is not evidence, just an opinion.

According to Alan Dershowitz, a liberal lawyer, writing in The New York Daily News, if this evidence that appears to support Zimmerman's version of events "turns out to be valid, the prosecutor will have no choice but to drop the second-degree murder charge against Zimmerman-if she wants to act ethically, lawfully and professionally."

Dershowitz said that the special prosecutor, Angela Corey, "was aware when she submitted an affidavit that it did not contain the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. She deliberately withheld evidence that supported Zimmerman's claim of self-defense." As I argued in an earlier AIM Report, the media and certain politicians have played leading roles in fanning the flames, and this story has a long way to go.

After that went to press, Dershowitz went even further in an interview on Fox News Channel's "Huckabee," with former Gov. Mike Huckabee, in which he accused Angela Corey of being "aware of most of the evidence in general outline" and said she made "a deliberate, willful, unethical, unprofessional, and illegal decision to withhold that evidence.from the courts and from the affidavit that she filed in support of an overblown second-degree murder prosecution."

He said Ms. Corey should be investigated for submitting an affidavit that she knew to be a half-truth, which he equated to a lie. And, he said, she sees her job to do justice for Trayvon, and to avoid riots, not to see justice for Zimmerman. He added that she has raised expectations for a conviction, but that no reasonable jury will convict on second-degree murder charges based on the evidence. He said that if there are riots because Zimmerman isn't found guilty or because the charges were dropped, she will be responsible.

Dershowitz also said that the prosecutor "made up" the notion that Zimmerman had "profiled" Martin because he was black, though there was no evidence to support that.

In an expanded version of the Dershowitz-penned article cited above, he also had some tough words for The New York Times. He accused the Times of "generally biased" reporting against Zimmerman, suggesting that "if the police had done their job properly the evidence would point to Zimmerman's guilt." He also blasted them for using "uncorroborated gossip," in citing a woman who had called an investigator with an opinion that Zimmerman "has racist ideologies," though she refused to identify herself.

"I think the New York Times should ask itself whether it would have published the contents of a phone call from an unidentified person that made similar inflammatory charges against Trayvon Martin," Dershowitz wrote. "I believe that the publication of such unsourced gossip-which would be totally inadmissible in any trial-violates the New York Times' own policies. It has some explaining to do."

Now, it turns out, according to the Orlando Sentinel, that four of the witnesses cited in the documents changed their initial story of what happened, and in at least three of those four cases, the changed version was damaging to George Zimmerman's case.

The release of the documents in support of the second-degree murder charge against George Zimmerman, along with evidence of changed memories, have only complicated and exacerbated an already racially charged prosecution.

OK, can some non-Jewish people please add to this? Otherwise, the Zimmerman thing is shaping up to be an anti-Semitic v. Jewish people thing. I would like to see some prominent Catholic attorneys from the Thomas More society and maybe some others who can plainly see the over reaching and ambition for this prosecutor’s political career at Zimmerman’s expense. Course maybe what will happen is what happened to Marcia Clark’s bite at the apple...........not to say that Zimmerman is guilty, like OJ was. Just to say that the jury won’t like it if after all this fuss, she can’t put on an open and shut case.

Perhaps a change of venue and an OJ Simpson type jury can solve that problem. -Tom

No explanation necessary. NYT-Obama has plagiarized, manipulated and spiked stories in the past to support The Agenda. No violation of those policies is present here.

One of the witnesses changed his story in one aspect only. In hindsight he realized he made the assumption that George was hollaring for help since he was on the bottom and being beaten by Martin. He was not close enough to see the mouths of the players. His first assumption makes sense given what he saw unfolding, but technically, he can’t be sure which mouth was hollaring for help.

The other witnesses who changed their stories found it easy to bask in media’s adoring attention, but they may not find it so glorious on the witness stand.

I think this changing of the witness stories is being overplayed by the St. Trayvon racists in an effort to diminish the effect of doom they encountered when the evidence released supported Zimmerman’s story.

If 4 witnesses changed their stories then there are no longer any reliable witnesses.

The defense will ask thems if they are lying now or if they lied before.

He said that if there are riots because Zimmerman isn't found guilty or because the charges were dropped, she will be responsible.

I see his point, but really, the rioters will be responsible. They will have chosen to riot. Did whites riot when O.J. Simpson was found not guilty? We've all had outcomes we might not have liked, but civilized, decent people do not riot.

America is racist and the media is trying to prove it. Dershowitz is doing a great job exposing this lynching.

Uncivilized ones should be stripped of American citizenship, and deported to their continent of claim.

Interesting vids from the 7/11. Some strange folks there at the time TM was there, and TM takes a while to leave.

While some witnesses are trying to change their statements, because as Obama says, "change is good", the most reliable witnesses are not changing theirs. Among these incontrovertible witnesses is the broken nose, the gashes on the back of the head, the black eyes, bruising of the face. Unless these injuries to Zimmerman occurred after the gunshot, the prosecution is going to have to do one hell of a tap dance in court.

In other news, Trayvon's parents were in East St. Louis last week raising money, supposedly for justice for Trayvon. Since they are not paying the public prosecutor, just who is getting this money they are raising and why??

Supposedly they were there to speak out against violence in the hood. Have they seen the damage that their son's violence did to Zimmerman's head??? They may not have known it before -- but they certainly do now. Maybe they should come to grips with that before making any more appearances -- but facts don't matter to these people.

Now we are being told that Zimmerman committed that horrible crime of "getting out of his car" and "watching someone suspicious" -- the audacity of a neighborhood watch captain in a neighborhood being burglarized regularly to do such things. Are those now illegal???

The parents sheepishly appeared with their attorney in front of the church. He follows them everywhere, coaching them on everything they say. But they refused to answer any questions about the case. They made statements though, but no questions regarding just who they really believed was calling for help that night, especially since they disagree with each other on that matter. The mother's affidavit, a linchpin of the prosecution's charge, is now at risk. It was a lie form the beginning and the prosecutor knew it.

A 6-3 man getting the better of a 5-7 one who he is sitting on top of pummeling right and left has no need to cry for help, unless he just wanted someone to pass him his skittles and tea so he could continue uninterrupted with his pummeling.

The parents and the prosecution need a dose of reality because the incontrovertible witnesses won't be changing their story.

Abramoff, Dershowitz, Zimmerman really?

You already know the angst between the Jewish and black communities.

Left field, I don’t think so. I think it is the elephant in the room that no one is speaking about.

Lots of people, FReepers included, believe that the very Catholic Zimmerman must be Jewish because of his last name.

I believe this story came to national prominence because race baiters made the mistake of thinking Zimmerman was Jewish.

Doucheyerwits may have noticed this case for the same reason.

There was an article yesterday that showed that TM didn't hafve Ice tea, water watermelon tea. This mixed with Robitussim DM and Skittles makes DXM which has a narcotic effect. It also showed some of TM's tweets describing his use of DXM and marijuana.

The Defense needs to bring these out

"Just who is getting this money they're raising and why?"

The parents started an incorporated "Trayvon Foundation". Variations of their son's name has been copyrighted (for instance, if used on tee shirts they get a cut).

The fees and expenses they get for their speeches before large church venues from London to Baltimore to East St. Louis can be pumped into the foundation. They can put themselves, even their wily, good-shepherd attorney, on the foundation's payroll.

It's like a money-laundering variation. Nothing illegal, but they're milking their son's memory like a cash cow. The Baltimore social justice church venue alone afforded thousands of the gullible who came to hear the mother speak. East St. Louis pews seated 750. You can bet the hat is passed at every stop and a hefty "fee" and travel/other expenses are paid to mommie dearest.

Actually, the parents have to move fast on the creamed-chicken speaking circuit. The gravy train may or may not dry up after Mr. Z's case is dropped for lack of evidence.

I say "may not" because mom's already being referred to as today's "Rosa Parks", she of the back-of-the-bus fame. She just may have longer shelf life in the racist movement that always needs fresh heros and heroines.
