US military denies parachuting into N.Korea (update)
AFP ^ | 5/29/12

Posted on 05/29/2012 4:31:48 AM PDT by EBH

The US military Tuesday vehemently denied a media report that special forces had been parachuted into North Korea on intelligence-gathering missions, saying a source had been misquoted.

Current affairs magazine The Diplomat quoted Brigadier General Neil Tolley, commander of special forces in South Korea, as saying soldiers from the US and South Korea had been dropped across the border for "special reconnaissance" missions.

But Colonel Jonathan Withington, public affairs officer for US Forces Korea, said some reporting of the conference had taken Tolley "completely out of context".

"Quotes have been made up and attributed to him," he said, denying that any US or South Korean forces had parachuted into the North.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[not win it -etl]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert [they are NOT on "hair-trigger alert" now -etl], and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

We can’t for a moment forget who and what we have in the White House today. Even if we were to assist the South Koreans vs the North, we must suspect that there’s some kind of ‘catch’.

We don’t parachute people into North Korea....we beam them in like in Star Trek. The only way to stop this is with an Anti-Beaming Weapon. If I was North Korea, I’d get working on that right away!

I find it would be treason for any commanding officer to let this infomation out!

I agree unless this is some sort of misinformation campaign. Either way that type of misinformation campaign would be in the form of rumor or other non-military personnel not active duty brass. Something totally screwy is going on here.

US Special Ops commander: We’ve sent troops into North Korea

http://dailycaller.com/2012/05/28/us-special-ops-commander-weve-sent-troops-into-north-korea/

UPDATE: U.S. military officials told a Voice of America journalist in a statement that the quotes attributed to Gen. Tolley were fabricated.

“At no time have SOF [Special Operations] forces been sent to the north to conduct special reconnaissance,” said the United States Forces Korea.

U.S. Army Gen. Neil Tolley, commander of U.S. Special Operations Forces in South Korea, told an audience in Tampa that U.S. and South Korean forces have been sent into North Korea to spy on the communist country’s vast collection of underground tunnels and military installations.

Brigadier General trumps Colonel

Of course this is damage control, but who was in error? How, exactly, was the General misquoted? The article of the General’s assertion showed up last week. If he were in error, the denials would have come last week and he would be in the principal’s office [SecDef or some such].

When the original story hit FR, many surmised that the story of the incident was released to bolster Obama’s foreign policy credentials for the election. Whether true or not, on second thought, it showed to definitive problems:

1. If they did fly into NK, and the BGeneral admitted it, the US violated the sovereignty of another nation. The fall out from that could result in literal fall out.

2. If they did fly into NK, because of the above #1, they would not be admitting it to the world.

Is the BGeneral trying to sell a book?

This whole story smelled even last week. The Colonel’s denial doesn’t help.

Someone high up screwed up.

Was the screw up military or political?

Sadly, some clerk paper pusher(s) will be the ones sacrificed as being the culprit(s).

>Would be very easy for a team of Seals (or several) to do a HALO jump undetected.

Except for the fact that HALO is rarely done as it is in no way “easy.”
It is dangerous, takes a LOT of prep work and I consider it an absolutely last resort.

Infiltrating NK with Americans would be unbelievably stupid - on the order of total insanity.
The many risks and downsides would be enormous & the upside far too limited

Who would have believed a few years ago that we’d be conducting military exercises WITH Russia IN the United States?

No, the denials without derision, and repeated denials, and “taken out of context” all add up.

As one poster said, Hussein could easily be ASSISTING the NorKs.

So yesterday there was no way we'd be doing this...

Today something is up because they deny the fabricated quotes...

this gives way to great conspiracy diversions...

Well .. you know how these libs like to brag about the stuff they do - so they can take credit ..?? It makes me very suspicious.

What bothers me the most .. if it is true .. they have put our military people in the crosshairs and that really ticks me off.

This past weekend I went down to see Three Dog Night on the flight deck of The Midway and met a few SEALs at the show. I’m an actor, and on Sunday morning I was invited to go inside the Navy SEALs training facility on Coronado Island. The SEAL who showed me around was from SEAL Team 3. The odd number SEAL Teams are on the West Coast and the even number SEAL Teams are on the East Coast.

I was in awe of these men. We watched a few video’s then walked around the courtyard (The Grinder). There’s a great sign that hangs on one of the walls above The Grinder that says “The only easy day was yesterday.” And since Sunday was their day off I got to go on the obstacle course and work at a few stations. Even though it was their day off the new guys who were trying to become SEALs were still working out on the obstacle course trying to perfect it. I had a blast. They make everything on the course so easy. Believe me it’s not.

I asked a few of the SEAL’s I talked to what they thought of Obama taking credit and giving away certain details of the missions and all they said was basically the same thing “I wish he would shut up.”

If anything, I would expect A-ZERO to help his comrades om North Korea infiltrate the U.S. To the extent there are operations going on to protect the U.S., I am certain they are being conducted AGAINST ORDERS from the usurper.

Would be very easy for a team of Seals (or several) to do a HALO jump undetected.

Perhaps. But, unless this is a suicide mission, how do you extract the troops once they completed their task? A parachute jump is a one-way path.

Any such action, if discovered - or even if admitted to - would be an act of war even if no shots were fired. NK is anxious to get a casus belli on their side. NK is currently (as usual) in bad shape, with drought reported. Kim-in-Charge may run out of his own people in a few years, so he may want to attack someone, anyone, just because otherwise he'd be all alone in North Korea, surrounded by dead bodies and ideas of Juche.

People posted night maps of NK. It is indeed dark. However this doesn't tell anything about the radars and other ways of watching the skies and the land. In fact, light on the ground is not helping you at all. Those HALO jumpers may be jumping right into a prison camp and they wouldn't know it. You cannot see a weak light, such as a kerosene lantern, from a weather satellite. Bright light spots on the ground are cities - places where megawatts of power are burned. Night lighting of a military base can be all under 100W. Infrared lighting of security zones, along with night vision goggles, is the way to go.

My personal opinion is that no jumps were done; if there are reconnaissance missions afoot, they are conducted in a smarter way. For example, $10 passed to a local man can do more than a platoon of US soldiers. Foreign soldiers would be very hard to mistake for North Koreans - at least because they are not fainting from hunger, let alone their language, skin color, and other differences.

Yes, if it were up to liberals and lefties the US would be as dark as North Korea in that satellite view. Only the limousine liberal areas would be brightly lit.
