DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – In the rigid enemy-or-ally world view of Usama bin Laden and his chief lieutenants, Iran occupied a spot somewhere in between -- a state seen as arrogant, enigmatic and driven by self interest, according to newly released Al Qaeda documents.
Yet there is also a sense that Al Qaeda recognizes the importance of Iran's role in the region and the need to keep some level of dialogue.
The papers -- seized in last year's raid on bin Laden's Pakistan hide-out and posted online Thursday by the U.S. Army's Combating Terrorism Center -- portray Al Qaeda's relations with Iran as clouded by deep mutual distrust and sharply divergent interests.
A June 2009 Al Qaeda memo -- possibly to bin Laden -- refers to the Iranian government as "criminals" in a no-holds bashing of its opaque and unpredictable policies.

Compared to the present reality of a nuclear Pakistan with its proximity to Al Qaeda and its allies, the future prospect of a nuclear Iran does not seem a great worry to me.

The present Iranian regime are not saints, but they’re not our greatest enemy, the enemy which has carried out attacks on American soil. A realistic policy looks for help against the main foe wherever it can be found.

You’re either in denial or delusional.
Besides killing and maiming our soldiers in Iraq themselves with IED’s, the Iranian regime has already helped alQaeda carry out attacks on the U.S.
At the very least, they gave safe paassage thru Iran to several of the 9/11 attackers and have given safe haven to alQaeda members. They work with the Taliban to kill soldiers in Afghanistan. They work with Hamas and obviously Hezbollah. They will help anyone who wants to attack the U.S. - that’s why they’re befriending dictators in S. America. (who aren’t muslim at all)
The regime’s M.O. for the past 30yrs, is to use others for attacks when possible, in order to deflect attention & blame away from the IRI.
Open your eyes. Look who is aiding & abetting our enemies besides killing Americans directly. Start looking at the forest and not just the trees.
