(Reuters) - A bill that would ban a therapy that aims to reverse homosexuality in children and teens passed California's Senate on Wednesday, moving the state a step closer to becoming the first in the nation to ban the controversial treatment.
The 23-13 vote in the Democratic-controlled Senate marked a major victory for gay rights advocates who say the therapy has no medical basis because homosexuality is not a disorder, and that it can cause depression and lead to substance abuse and suicide.
The bill still needs to be passed by the state Assembly and signed by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown before it can become law. It is expected to be taken up by the Assembly, also controlled by Democrats, within a month.
"These therapies are dangerous," Senator Ted Lieu, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, said on the Senate floor before the vote, citing the case of Ryan Kendall, an outspoken advocate of gay rights who underwent such therapy as a child.

It used to be IIRC, in the DSM as a treatable disease. My how quickly and entirely the last two generations (as a group) dropped the Conservative ball.(Thank goodness so many are trying to fix it now).
And yet it once was...not that long agao... and may yet be again.
So they are against a therapy that can help people because someone may become depressed which could lead to substance abuse and suicide, but will do nothing against a condition that is commonly known to cause depression which could lead to substance abuse and suicide.

It is a disorder and it is perverted. The AMA was hijacked in 1973 by homosexual activists and threatened/scared into declaring homosexuality wasn’t a disorder.

what if the kid feels they wold be more comfortable and happy if they were a double amputee and really, really wants to have surgery done to remove both arms?
I mean, if the kid wants something done, even if its destructive, the parents have to let it happen. At least that’s the mentality behind the gubmint’s big brother thinking here.
Therapy to convince children they are gay and/or need sex change operations are still okay though

It’s difficult to see how banning voluntary (in fact, patient-sought) counseling aimed at alleviating a habit of homosexuality could survive a first amendment challenge. But that doesn’t mean the Fornicalia state bastages won’t try.
There are various theories about what goes on cognitively or semi/unconsciously to bring about homosexuality, or to keep it going, but that isn’t the real point. The point is that nobody has shown that efforts to alleviate the condition are ipso facto harmful. Crude old methods, that smacked of the same kind of domineering spirit that is so common of families where homosexuality arises, have long been forsaken as counterproductive and unethical. New methods are based upon compassion and love, and involve talk therapy that is, usually, undergirded with supportive and sympathetic religious themes. Why people should be denied the right to avail themselves of this is, well, beyond all common sense.
Correct. I am 100% certain that homosexuals will be leaders in the coming persecution of Christians as prophesied for these last days before Christ’s return. Their hatred of God and righteousness is palpable.

Communists in Sacramento impose you another tyranny on the people in that unfortuante state. These Senators needs to be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail. If they come back, they should be subject to orders to shoot on sight.
