Solyndra as backdrop, Romney hits Obama for cronyism

Mitt Romney decried what he said was the Obama administration's economic failures and cronyism outside the headquarters of a defunct company that Republicans have upheld as the very symbol of those shortcomings.

The presumptive presidential nominee stood for an impromptu press conference outside the headquarters of Solyndra, the now-bankrupt solar energy company that had been the beneficiary of a federal loan, which, Republicans contend, was doled out as a political favor.

"It's a symbol not of success but of failure. It's also a symbol of a serious conflict of interest," Romney said outside the headquarters, a destination which wasn't made public until the last possible minute, even to the traveling press corps that cover the former Massachusetts governor.

"Many of the events I go to, there are large groups of, if you will, Obama supporters there heckling me. And at some point you say, you know what, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If they’re going to be heckling us, why we’re not going to sit back and play by very different rules," Romney said. "If the president is going to have his people coming to my rallies, and heckling, why, we’ll show them that, you know, we conservatives have the same kind of capacity he does."

Great to see he's not being cowed on this, and that he doesn't feel obligated to denounce anybody the MSM thinks he should. Ghost of McCain, begone!

It is good to see Romney doing this in the enemy territory of California. Apparently he was at his beach house in La Jolla over the weekend enjoying the gorgeous weather and decided to drop by and visit Northern California. Maybe he should visit Pelosi’s vinyard in Napa and take a shot at her.

I like that Romney is going after zero stealing our money (well China’s money that our kids will owe) and giving it to his supporters. This alone really ought to mean prison for lots of rats.

The bankrupt company's opulent headquarters, long a target of Romney's derision on the stump, made for a powerful visual backdrop as Romney lambasted what he said was the company -- and the president's -- failings. "It's also a symbol of how the president thinks about free enterprise," Romney continued. "Free enterprise to the president means taking money from the taxpayers and giving it freely to his friends."

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about.

Even those of you who dislike Romney have to admit that, unlike John “let’s all be civil to each other” McCain, Mitt is going after the Kenyan.

Newt must be giving him pointers.

Romney will not get rolled like McCain was. I believe Romney’s a fighter.

If Newt is giving Romney pointers, and Romney is listening, then I'm a lot happier about the Romney campaign than I was yesterday.

Hold on! McCain blunders didn’t happen until late in the fall when the pressure was on him....the early summer and the mid way period was pretty pedestrian and solidl campaigning, Mitt is bound to step in it eventual as most establishments tend to do

I believe Romney’s a fighter.

He better be, because politics is a blood sport, and a desperate Team Obama / Big Leftist Media will use every dirty trick there is against him! (funny - didn't Obama say 4 years ago he wanted to get RID of the antagonism in Washington??)

Wrong. Early on McCain told his surrogates and supporters that Obama's personal background was off limits.

Well that’s true but how is that different from Romney who says that Obamas personal background is off limits? And don’t go with SUPERPAC which do things independently of Romney.....so we should expect Romney to publicly backtrack when ask from the media when other conservatives point out things about Obama? And what does that make Romney look like? A coward just like McCain

Romney is still letting his surrogates go after the Kenyans background.

You’re really stretching it to try to equate Romneys campaign to McCains.

Which surrogates of Romney is going after Obama personally? Names please — and I guess you’ll say Trump first who’s a lot of noise but no action

Did Obamas own history of bullying come out of thin air?

Did the Rev Wright resurfacing happen because of coincidence?

McCain came crawling to his buds in the media the second anyone brought anything like these things to his attention.

Romney waves them off.

I’m not crazy about Romney, but you really can’t compare his campaign style to McCain.

IMHO.
