Over the last few days, since Romney clinched the GOP nomination for President by going over the 1,144 committed delegates needed with his win in the Texas Primary on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, a number of new endorsements have come in for Romney's bid for the Presidency.
These include George Shultz, former Secretary of State; Condoliza Rice, former Secretrary of State and National Security Advisor; Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas and presidential candidate; and Nancy Reagan, wife of President Ronald Reagan. Here's what each of them had to say on the date they endorsed Romney:
|
|
|
| NANCY REAGAN endorses Mitt Romney (May 31, 2012) I offer my firm endorsement of Mitt Romney's campaign for president. Ronnie would have liked Gov. Romney's business background and his strong principles, and I have to say I do too. I believe Mitt Romney has the experience and leadership skills that our country so desperately needs, and I look forward to seeing him elected president in November. |

|
| MIKE HUCKABEE endorses Mitt Romney (May 31, 2012) I was very careful and deliberate in not wanting to get involved in the process prior to somebody securing the nomination, largely because I play on both radio and television. I didnt feel it was appropriate for me to pick a Republican candidate. I dont think anyone doubted that I was going to support the Republican. But Mitt Romney has now earned it and I use that term very specifically. He worked hard to get it and therefore I think all Republicans and all conservatives need to rally around Gov. Romney. |

|
| CONDOLIZA RICE endorses Mitt Romney (May 30, 2012) "We care about the future of this country, and the future of our world and Im delighted to join so many friends here in supporting, and in my case, endorsing, Gov. Mitt Romney for President of the United States. If America is going to rebuild its strength at home, rebuild its sense of who we are, it needs a leader that also understands how really exceptional the United States of America is, and is not afraid to lead on the basis of that exceptionalism. America's leadership is craved in this world, its understood in this world. The only thing the American people dislike more than weak leadership, is no leadership at all. And Governor Romney, you can bring it back." |

|
|
| GEORGE SHULTZ endorses Mitt Romney (May 30, 2012) "What Mitt has done at Bain Capital has been a major contribution to the American economy. He has learned and instinctively can feel what it takes to get this huge amount of money that is sitting on the sidelines of our economy to move forward and be invested." |

I found Huckabee's statement interesting, and compelling, given the history.

A long and impressive list of very recognizable names that brings together every portion of the GOP...from the very conservative, to moderates (which he will have to have to win, as sad as it is to include some of their views), which will and is also attracting a majority of the independents...which he will also have to garner.
His pick for VP will be extremely pivotal in this regard.
FYI...and the march of time moves forward. Five more months until the most pivotal and critical election of our lifetime.
IBTFI
Trust the Huckster to use ten times as many words as anyone else.
Endorsement from Nancy Reagan and George Schultz are faint praise, Jeff.
We can count Condoleeza in as someone who voted for Obama who won’t be voting for him again. I guess it is time to put country before color and wishy-washy sentiment. You go girl!
That’s true...but they add to the whole, and any of the other candidates whom we supported over Romney (and for me that was Sarah, Cain, Rick, and Newt) had they won the nomination would have graciusly accepted them and been honored by them.
LOL! That’s right for sure.
Finally it looks like we might win. We need all the support we can get to beat the King Obama machine. Romney might not have been our first choice.
MEH....he won the nomination. It is not like there is another candidate. Endorsements mean nothing now.
OFFICIAL FR RESPONSE:
“I dont care!! Im never gonna vote for Romney!! He is a (FILL IN BLANK)!!
and I hate his (FILL IN BLANK)!!!!!!!
In addition, when you have people like Bill Clinton fracturing the DNC with statements like this today on CNN (in an effort by him, I believe, to get Hillary in there):
This (Bain Capitol) is good work Theres no question that a man who has been a governor and has a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold for the PResidency, - Bill Clinton to CNN 6/1/2012
It just helps all the more.
Hehehe...good luck trying to roll that one back Axlerod! LOL!
Five more months until the most pivotal and critical election of our lifetime.
Deja Vu or what?
every 4 years , conservatives throw ourselves on the altar of whatever the GoP tosses out there.
Meanwhile, debt grows, jobs slide, nations implode in the MIddle East, thank goodness China has its own internal strife issues, or we could kiss this gRand Experiment adios long before its time.
I hope he defeats the Kenyan Marxist, who with a will is actively fundamentally changing our nation and destroying the Republic, and I intend to work hard towards Obama's defeat.
Oh give me a break!
The entire FR He-Man Mitt Haters Club jihad is predicated on such outlandish predictions of the monstrous and megalomoniacal things Romney is sure to do once in office.
And how do we know that this is what he'll do?
Because of his history of being an unprincipled, flip-flopping squish.
It is to laugh!
The “Lesser of two evils” endorsements.
Even when he ran for governor in the uber-DNC Mass Romney ran on the GOP ticket, so I do not think there is any chance or worry that he will ever run as a Democrat. We can put that one to rest.
As to what he will do as President...well he has said what he intends to do. Many times. And what he says he will do sounds pretty good.
But will he do them? We know Obama wont.
But these people endorsing him, that long list of names, many of which we have a lot of respect for and who have long records of very conservative actions...they believe him and have endorsed him and will be pouring their money and work into getting him elected.
Do you honestly think he has fooled all of these people?
Do you honestly think he would spend all this political capitol to get them to help him get elected only to turn 180 degrees on them as soon as he is sworn in?
I don't...not at all. I think he plans to do what he said...and why wouldn't he?
If he does, the nation will turn around. It is just waiting for someone to loosen the regulations, reduce federal spending, ramp up our abundant energy, lower corporate and individual taxes and turn the economic engine loose and let it roar.
If he simply does those things, which is what he says he will do (and which we know Obama will do none of), and with majorities in the House and Senate to support it...we will see a huge and relatively fast economic recovery, a huge increase in jobs, stronger defense, the end of Obama Care, and Romney will get credit for all of it...and justifiably so.
What politician would not want that?
It would ensure a second four years for him as President and he would have achieved the apex of any political career and be remembered in history along the lines of a Ronald Reagan if it happens.
I think that outcome is much, much more apt to occur if we can get him elected...and to defeat Obama, I intend to do all I can to help make it happen.
God's speed!
THE AWFUL FIRSTS OF BARACK OBAMA'S PRESIDENCY
You shouldn't remind Christians that Romney is going to become a God according to him, and that he is from a family of men who will become Gods.
It reminds some that they cannot vote for him.
What happens to Romney after this life will be between Him and God in Heaven...and is not for us to decide. But what happens here in the USofA we do have a hand in and I much prefer what Romney is representing than what Obama represents.
Apparently so do this whole list of folks:
Mike Huckabee
condoliza Rice
George Shultz
Nacny Reagan
Rick Santorum
Newt Gingrich
Michelle Bachman
Rick Perry
George W. Bush
Rudy Guliania
Mitch McConnel
Herman Cain
Dick Cheney
Sarah Palin
Paul Ryan
Marco Rubio
Jim Demint
Jeb Bush
John Lehman
John Huntsman
Nicki Hailey
Christine O'Donnell
John Bolton
John Mccain
Paul Pawlenty
John Sununu
Christ Christie
Darrel Issa
John Kasich
John Voinovich
Tom Foley
Bob McConnell
John Ashcroft
Eric Cantor
John Boener
Connie Mack
Dennis Hastert
Richard Shelby
Dana Rohrbacher
A bunch of them are very much all-Americans, patriotic, conservatives who are fighting for our Republic who are aware of all of the aspects of this thing...and yet they have made the decision they have made.
I do not think they have all been fooled. I do not think they are all RINOs or somehow betraying this nation. I do not think that Romney intends on backing away from his commitments to all of these very well known and prominant people who will be the ones who help him get elected...if he does.
Anyhow...that's just my own opinion. I can understand why others whom I know to be good, patriotic Americans, come to a different conclusion, even if I do not agree with it.
"Anybody but Obama. I honestly believe that anybody running on the GOP ticket would be infinitely better than what we have today, with these failed socialist policies. There is no perfect candidate, and, you know, I would warn voters to never put their faith wholly in an individual, in a politician, because a politician will disappoint you. But have faith in what that politician stands for. And in the choices that we have in the GOP now, the gentlemen who are running, they're all good. They all have their strengths. And as I say, America will be better off with any of them. What I would advise Mitt Romney, don't necessarily play it safe, and do just what the GOP establishment expects. Get up and say that we need relentless, sudden reform of our government to put it back on the side of the people.
That's what she has said...and how she apparently intends to vote. I am sure we will hear more later.
As I have said, I understand and respect how others, whom I know to be good patriotic Americans can come to a different conclusion regarding Romney...even if I do not agree with it. I will not naysay them.
On the other hand, I personally simply cannot and will not do (or not do) anything that will enable the Kenyan Marxist, Obama another four years in the White House. And I have come to that conclusion in part, with the help of people like Sarah Palin who have made the comments, statements, decisions, and endorsements that they have made.
Every thread with Romney in the title seems to be turned into a religion thread by a small but vocal contingent of Freepers who can't get over the thought that in November this country will elect its first Mormon president and they're going to do everything in their power to stop it. Better to elect an American-hating Marxist than a Mormon as far as they're concerned.
And I'm sure the usual suspects will arrive shortly with their 3000 word copy and paste jobs full of dozens of links from anti-Mormon sites about the evils of Mormonism. Links that I won't bother to click on because, honestly, I just don't care to read bilious spittle of unhinged cranks.
Your tagline is the zeitgeist which must rule the day else We The People will be but a fading memory.
This is what I've been saying for weeks.
This whole FR He-Man Mitt Haters Club thing is an anti-Mormon jihad.
I have been battling the anti-Romneys for weeks.
What you say here is precisely true.
Romney’s pick for VP will be interesting, not so much for the person picked for this somewhat thankless job, but to show the direction Romney is leaning.
I believe he will make a good pick. I don’t believe it will be a dramatic pick or a dangerous pick because that’s not how Romney operates.
Please.
Free Republic is only now showing signs of recovering from the death knell we experienced during the anti-Romney crusade.
Sensible voices are now being heard. Idiocracy was crushing Free Republic far more than Romney ever could or would.
We actually ended up with a decent nominee. We might not agree with him on everything, but so far, he’s looking good.
He doesn’t seem to be afraid to bring it to Obama.
The group I call “The Band of Bothers” who come on every thread (whether it is about Romney or not) to leave a trail of slime is gradually being overcome by the sensible people still left here.
Take your paranoia elsewhere.
He has such a great opportunity, if he wins, to have one of the best cabinets.
Alan West for Defense, Santorum for Attorney General, Bachman for Homeland Security, Bolton for Secretary of State, heck, Paul for Teasury (what a shakeup to the Globalists that would be), Cain for Interior, etc., etc. there are many, many great names that could be used to get a fantastic, all-American team together to undo all that Obama and his cabinet and Czars have done to this nation.
Attacking Christians and freerepublic conservatives and mocking them as he-men Mitt haters, is to be expected from such a slavish devotee of Mitt Romney as you are.
I notice that you never ping JR to your attacks which so often would include him and is almost always a critique of his site.
Wow, that is as direct attack on JR as I have seen for weeks.
""Sensible voices are now being heard."" ? ""Idiocracy was crushing Free Republic"" ? ""We actually ended up with a decent nominee."" ? ""a trail of slime is gradually being overcome by the sensible people still left here."" ? ""Take your paranoia elsewhere."" ?
Do you know who was leading that anti-Romney crusade and is still not backing your man?
When history is being made as a major religious leader for the first time in American history is running for president, a high ranking power within a religion, is running for president, then it is a part of the political discussion.
When the GOP nominee is the first one to think he is going to become literally a God, then that is part of the political discussion.
He's not a "Mormon Leader," and hasn't been since he ran for Governor, many years ago.
Until you raised it, no one on this thread was talking about it, or felt the need to.
On the basis some folks raise, no devout Catholic should run for President because they believe so strongly about the Pope...but as a nation we got past that long ago. I suspect we will get past this as well with the nation being no worse the wear.
In fact, if he defeats Obama, the nation, according to that long list of very prominent and knowledgable patriotic Americans I listed, will be much the better for it with him rather than with Obama...Sarah Palin herself said the same when specifically asked about Romney:
"Anybody but Obama. I honestly believe that anybody running on the GOP ticket would be infinitely better than what we have today, with these failed socialist policies. There is no perfect candidate, and, you know, I would warn voters to never put their faith wholly in an individual, in a politician, because a politician will disappoint you. Is she now one of the "fooled", or turn-coats to who is helping destroy America? I don't think so. She's reviewed the people in the race, and probably with a whole lot more knowledge than any of us, and she has made this decision. I respect it and believe she is right.
.
Mitt Romney is the highest religious figure to ever run for president.
Mitt Romney is the highest church official to ever run for president.
Bishop Romney is a leader and royalty from a bizzare religious cult that had never even existed before and was created generations after the United States was founded.
Romney is the candidate for the GOP, the party of Christian voters.
Of course this is important political stuff.
Only Mormons would want to conceal the Bishops place in Mormonism and the role it plays, many Christian Republican voters are eager to know more about a leader who thinks that he is becoming a God.
I understand and respect why people of good consiceince come to mis-trust and not want to vote for Romney based on his record...though given the alternatives and what he has published he is running on and the commitments he has made thereto to these very prominant people endorsing him, I do not agree with.
I do not respect the idea that folks would reject him purely on a religous basis because that religion, unlike fundamental Islam, is not seeking to establish something like Sharia Law or any other political set of laws and judicailsim law the compels everyone oin the country to either join, pay tribute and conform, be enslaved, or die.
The Constitution is pretty clear about there not being any religious test. I except Islam because of the world-wide political domination it clearly seeks over this mortal earth hiding under the name of religion.
But you do what you gotta do...I will join with these very conservative people endorsing Romney to defeat Obama, the greatest threat to this Republic since the Civil War.
LOL, you go straight to Islam.
You then try the constitution as though Americans are not legally allowed to look at a Mormon Bishop’s bizarre cult religion because the constitution forbids it.
Then you tell us that you DO want to impose a religious test on Americans who practice Islam.
See, this stuff is part of the political question.
I remember Henry Hyde reciting that poem during the Clinton impeachment.
I am guilty of making a pun on the term Band of Brothers and am unrepentent. It is a worthy phrase but not holy nor inviolate.
Obviously we differ on Mitt Romney but go in peace, Brother.
I do, Ansel. And that same gentleman has decreed that we are free to speak our convictions here.
That is what I am doing.
Huge difference.
If an Islamic does not want to implement Sharia Law on society (ie, the rest of us), and, outside of such compulsion, wants to live and practise the Koran in their life, or at their mosques not seeking to to compel others, or to transform America away from the constitutional republic it is...which becomes a political undertaking...then I have no problem whatsoever with them.
I believe most of them are that way. Most of them came here to get away from the compulsion of Sharia law. Sadly many of those are cowed by the fundamentalist radical amongst them...because those radicals would just as soon kill them as they woudl you or me.
So, at least be accruate in what you aattribute to me.
My point was simply that Mormonism is not trying to do anything like that...so they should not be denied or be subject to some kind of political test purely because of the religion.
That's what the Constitution speaks of.
Now people of every persuasion have their free conscience and they can vote for anyone they choose for whatever reason they choose in their heart. No one can deny them that either. It just can't be public policy, and from my perspective, it should be avoided by anyone who loves, cherishes, or has taken an oath to defend the constitution.
But should be, does not translate into "must" be. We're free. Isn't it wonderful?
I pray we can remain so, and believe this particular election is one of the most critical since the Civil War, regarding keeping our Union free. A lot of other people, including those on that long list above, believe it too.
Have a great weekend, ansle. my beliefs are available for anyone to read. God's blessings to you and yours, ansel.
I don't know of a religion called Fundamental Islam, but you will have to change the constitution to make a government religious test for it, or to keep Americans from being able to want to learn more about the highest ranking church official to ever run for president, also to want to discuss if it is sane or Christian or Jewish to vote for a man who thinks that he is becoming a God.
Like you, if a Muslim or a Mormon will renounce their religion, it would carry weight with me also.
You really feel the need to denigrate and insult conservatism, freerepublic, and JR while speaking your mind?
That means that you were speaking your mind, and the revulsion at conservatives, freerepublic and JR is exactly what you meant.
That is as direct attack on JR and his freerepublic as I have seen for weeks.
All taken from you anti-FR diatribe in post 28
“”Sensible voices are now being heard.”” ? “”Idiocracy was crushing Free Republic”” ? “”We actually ended up with a decent nominee.”” ? “”a trail of slime is gradually being overcome by the sensible people still left here.”” ? “”Take your paranoia elsewhere.”” ?
It could easily be legally labeled seditious as such...we would just have to have the will to do it, and to educate the people as to why.
Now, if we wanted to say that people could not read the Koran, or they could not pray to allah, or they could not interact religously amongst themselves according to the "legal" tennants of their religion, then yes, that would require a constitutional amendment...one that is not going to ever be willing adopted in this nation, and for good reason, it could and would be applied to all.
But Sharia Law is something very different. It is tangible and very established with its own legal and judicial internal mechanisms, and it could be outlawed in the US, precisely because it is not religion at all, but a seditious, anti-constitutional system of tyranny masqerading under the cover of a religion.
Good luck with that.
I am not insulting Free Republic nor conservatism.
I have a long history (15 years long) of conservative posts and positions on this forum.
I was for various candidates in the primary but we now have a candidate.
We have a president who is a danger to the country and stands for everything we hate.
I’m not gonna sit around and pout because I didn’t get the nominee I wanted while Obama wins an election.
A lot of people here agree with me. I do not denigrate Free Republic. If I didn’t love Free Republic, I wouldn’t bother.
I am denigrating the small but active band of people who consider it their holy duty to put anti-Romney opinions on every thread and who have no hesitation in insulting anyone who points out a different opinion.
Just because you don’t like what I say doesn’t mean I’m wrong.
No, post 28 was about as insulting as it gets.
You throw bombs at everything here, JR, conservatism, freerepublic itself, and then you play whiny victim when called out for it. You posted some nasty stuff.
All this because you finally got Romney?
Sensible voices are now being heard. ? Idiocracy was crushing Free Republic ? We actually ended up with a decent nominee. ? a trail of slime is gradually being overcome by the sensible people still left here. ? Take your paranoia elsewhere. ?

Some folks do not like others speaking their mind when it does not agree with their own.
Fact is, this whole thread is an affront to some merely because it states the facts about what is occcurring as regargs Romney’s campaign.
Fact is, he is gaining endorsement from across the GOP psectrum including many very conservative, long time, all American individuals who are very well known and respected by us all.
They are not wrong, they are not fooled, they are not betraying America...they are making critical decisions and providing critical support in the most critical election in our lief times. I ha dalways felt the Regan Carter election in 1980 was. This one even eclipses that.
