Washington (CNN) - The race for the White House remains very close, according to a new national poll, partly because neither President Barack Obama nor Republican challenger Mitt Romney have a clear advantage on issue number one - the economy.
A CNN/ORC International survey released Friday also indicates that Obama supporters are more energized right now than those backing Romney.
According to the poll, 49% of registered voters say that if the November election were held today, they would vote for Obama, while 46% say they would cast a ballot for Romney, the unofficial GOP presidential nominee. The president's three point margin is within the survey's sampling error. Obama had a nine point advantage in CNN's last national poll, which was conducted in early April.
The president's approval rating continues to hover around the 50% mark. Fifty-two percent give Obama thumbs up on the job he's doing in the White House, with 47% saying they disapprove of how he's handling his duties.
The survey also indicates Americans are divided in the battle for Congress, with 48% saying they would back the Democratic candidate in their congressional district and 45% saying they would support the GOP candidate.

Jimmy Carter redux
they’re energized alright.... but I’m not sure its good energized. I think its called “the pucker factor”
I can understand Obama supporters are more energized than Romney supporters.
We just finished a hellish, bruising primary where Romney was not a clear choice of most.
As we head toward the convention and our side realizes we have nowhere to go, we will, reluctantly , coalesce around Romney and get energized to clean the people’s house of this marxist fraud.
According to the poll, 49% of registered voters say that if the November election were held today, they would vote for Obama, while 46% say they would cast a ballot for Romney
.......and this ooll was taken at recent Obama rally!
Well, I agree with the poll in the sense that none of us are thrilled to have Romney as our nominee. :-)
More seriously though, I’m not buying what CNN is selling here. Or rather, I don’t believe the energy they claim his base feels is going to translate into turnout on Election Day. I suspect there are going to be several traditionally Democratic constituent groups who will vote for Obama this time in the same percentages as 2008, but not in the same numbers.
Time to dump the lying Socialist fraud Willard and replace him with a REAL Conservative like Gov. Scott Walker.
Modern polls are nothing more then tools to force conformity to an agenda set by others.
Backstabber RomneyCARE is disliked, if not despised
for his endless BACKSTABBING.
RomneyCARE cannot win.
Any conservative can win.
Romney should pull out. NOW.
The only friends, associates, family, business partners who still are voting for Obama that I know personally are black except one old democrat new yorker ..... But he is probably lying ....
Iwouldlove to the internals on this poll....
If it weren’t for RomneyCare...there would never have been ObamaCare...
What else would one expect from the Communist News Network?
Their ratings are not in the toilet for nothing.
I think they ment to say that the people voting against Obama are more energized than the ones voting for Romney.
proRomneyCARE Bishop Romney’s agenda IS a broken record,
but his phenotype (what he displays as a ‘shapeshifter’)
changes daily — like the political chameleon he is.
We didn't want him, but he's what we got.
This is NOT going to change.
Anybody staying home, doing a write-in or voting third party is casting a vote for Obama.
The most important thing is to get the Marxist/Muslim usurper pos out of our White House!
Now this is propaganda
Screw Zero and screw Willard. I don’t vote for Socialist con-men and frauds. Ya dig ?
NEW CNN POLL:
OBAMA 73% - ROMNEY 2%
(If you are making up the numbers anyway, why stop at 52%?)
