Posted on 06/02/2012 6:23:52 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer
Global warming is expected to result in localized extinctions of up to one-third of all butterfly species.
A recently published study concluded that butterflies which tend to emerge later in the year or fly higher in the mountains are probably more vulnerable becayse they have evolved to deal with a shorter window of opportunity to reproduce.
The findings have implications beyond just the survival of individual butterfly species, since their absence or presence has effects on pollination and other functions of herbaceous ecosystems.
Insects and plants are at the base of the food pyramid and are extremely important, but they often get less attention when we are studying the ecological impacts of climate change, said Javier G. Illa-Wanker, with the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society at Oregon State University.
The research was done by Illa-Wankerss group in the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. It examined 32 butterfly species for five years at various elevations in a Mediterranean mountain range, and the delays in flight dates that occurred as a result of elevation change.

Fluffy bunny population also affected.
They are just going to continue on and on about this “climate change” nonsense as if we did not learn that they lied about the initial data...
It’s always good to see a butterfly flutter by.
We had a warm winter this year and it looks like bunnies and bullfrogs did better than usual.
Are the rainbow unicorns safe?
I wish it would wipe out leftists.
My wife and I are avid gardeners and live in central Oklahoma. This past winter was very mild. Since our flowers came out in the spring we have noticed an over abundance of butterflies, many more than normal. Small, large, different colors, butterflies I’ve never seen. A joy to sit and watch.
Wasn’t it 2 winters ago that unusually cold temps in N. Mexico devastated the monarch population?
“I wish it would wipe out leftists.” ....and Ground Hogs! Nasty pieces of work also. :)
Like Your tag line.
Here is the man called Wanker in the above article. Maybe he married a wanker to get green card etc
We’re all going to die!
You beat me too it. No pun intended. Actually I was moved by the ten foot pole rule. No pun intended.
“They are just going to continue on and on about this climate change nonsense as if we did not learn that they lied about the initial data...”
This is exactly what the left does. Keep repeating the lie long after opposing forces debunk it. Then it becomes the new truth.
Thanks for the pic. In this case, it really is worthy 1000 words.
Such a dour look on the man!! He should come to my property - butterflies, bluebirds! the cutest cardinal couple you ever saw - abound.
We have a swallow in our bluebird box - I was mad at first but the bluebirds found another place nearby. The swallow is pretty - white stomach and steely greenish blue body.
Also a hummingbird at the window - nature is awesome and repairs itself.
“Here is the man called Wanker “
One of Peggy Bundy’s relatives?
In my small town between Cleveland and Akron, I have seen very few butterflies. I figured it’s all the chemicals people are using on their lawns. My lawn is a sanctuary for bugs! It’s all weeds! Hey! They’re green.
We have had a major influx of Butterflies this year...hundreds of them! This article is total Bull Merd.
That’s Josef Goebbels.
(Meant to reflect the relentless propaganda of AGW,etc.)
I say good. I am tired of the little buggers flapping their wings over there in China and causing all these Hurricanes and storms.
Enough is enough!
Relentless propaganda - maybe my new tagline?
elaborate on AGW - I am not familiar with the term
Then bunnies and butterflies had better ‘nut-up’ and grow a pair if they wanna live.
Thank you for the laugh
You are doing a public service..... I know a large orchard that wants and encourages weeds in between the fruit trees. The flowering weeds attract the pollinators, bees and such, the fruit trees need
I need more coffee. At first glance I read his name as Ima-Wanker.
don’t forget the chipmunks
Its all due to a recent increase in unicorn farts. Should you encounter any unicorns, destroy them on sight.
When it actually happened as expected I'd burn all my cash in tribute to the alarmist...being right about global warming for the first time
I think I'm pretty safe here...
Adapt or perish.
Called “natural law”.
If they could just get the butterflies, cows and Canadian Geese to stop crapping all over the place we wouldn’t have this problem.
>>> ... butterflies which tend to emerge later in the year or fly higher in the mountains are probably more vulnerable becayse they have evolved to deal with a shorter window of opportunity to reproduce.
First they make a claim, after the study, they still use the language ‘could wipe out’, ‘are probably more vulnerable’, ....
That’s no scientific study. Nobody in a sciece field would write that “conclusion”.
Shameful how ‘science’ is being used.
Look for your garden to be attacked by a lot of caterpillars later this year.
Grasping at fairy dust.
You are right!
I heard that it had already wiped out ALL of the unicorns. :-(
Is there anything Global Warming cannot do?
Grasping at fairy dust.
The whole argument is specious.
Name one insect that humans have been able to eliminate.
Years of pesicides from DDT to Chlordane couldn’t eliminate termites.
Cockroaches have been around longer than dirt..fire ants anyone, how about cabbage lopers, the colorado cucumber beetle, the dreaded stink bug..
Pesticides aimed at them with massive spraying couldn’t kill them.
I see a big fat “could” in that headline. These alarmists are pathetic money grubbing whores.

However, global warming will stop people from tramping through the woods on snowshoes, end ice fishing and put snowmobile makers out of business so isn’t that a net positive for the environmentalist whackos?
Many people would like us to wipe out all viruses too.
However, without cockroaches and viruses, life on Earth would cease to exist.
ALL those problems could be eliminated if we just wiped out the human species.
Heh, I think that would be the preferred approach of the enviroweenies, who do view humans as polluting vermin.
Except for themselves, of course.
If roaches are necessary for life on earth to continue ...... we are in good shape!
The enviroweenies are just commie collaborators. It is the ruling elite who want you to quit breathing their air and eating their food.
See UN: Agenda 21
Cockroaches are important, as are many creatures. Mostly to the food chain.
VIRUSES are the really important 'death' forms. (I would have said life-form,but VIRUSES aren't ALIVE unless there is food).
Guess what 'form' of creature was the FIRST on planet Earth (as far as we can tell)?
How do you 'kill' a creature that spends much of it's time DEAD?
