Fewer Than 1,000 People Show Up for Bill Clinton-Tom Barrett Rally in Milwaukee
The Weekly Standard ^ | June 2,2012 | JOHN MCCORMACK

Posted on 06/02/2012 3:16:03 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Milwaukee Just four days out from the Wisconsin's historic gubernatorial recall election, former president Bill Clinton and Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett could only draw a small crowd to a rally Friday on Barrett's home turf.

As the Associated Press notes, the crowd numbered only in the "hundreds," a sign of the enthusiasm gap between Democrats and Republicans that has appeared in some polls. Overcast weather and the short notice of the event (it was announced just yesterday) may have depressed turnout.

Clinton said that although he doesn't normally support recall elections, "sometimes it is the only way to avoid a disastrous course." If Walker wins, his allies would "break every union in America," Clinton explained. Barrett has warned that if Walker wins reelection he'll make Wisconsin a right-to-work state, something Walker has denied. Bill Clinton's native Arkansas has been a right-to-work state since 1944, but the former president and Arkansas governor made no mention of any negative consequences the state has experienced because of that law.

Later in the day, Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina (another right-to-work state) campaigned with Scott Walker at a factory in Waukesha. Haley spoke on the theme of Walker's "courage."

"We will never be judged by what we said. We will be judged by what we do," Haley said. "He had the courage to take it on even when it got ugly, and he never stopped."

"Are you going to award the courage he showed," Haley asked. "Are you going to respond to the results he gave you?"

"Politics has got to be the only profession where you get called 'courageous' just by keeping your word," Walker told factory workers. "Everywhere else in life, in business, in our families, it's expected. But somehow it's exceptional in politics."

Fewer than 1,000? Obviously whoever did the count can’t see dead people.

Call me naive. But, I believe that character counts, a lot! I believe in the character of Gov. Walker and the corresponding lack of character of former president Clinton.

Further, I believe Lincoln’s famous quote, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” I’m really expecting the good folks of Wisconsin to have figured this out by Tuesday!

It would be a start...

At the Tea Party rally in Madison, Wisconsin, Sarah Palin said: "I feel like I'm at home." Because it's ridiculously cold and snowing.

Thousands turned out in the cold and snow for Sarah Palin's appearance in support of Walker in 2011.....just sayin'

Except that statement is not true. It would reduce or remove certain bargaining activities by the public sector unions in WI. These unions would still have more “rights” than the Federal employees Clinton was in charge of for eight years.

In other words, he’s a lier and a hypocrite.

Anybody know anything about “Pollster Celinda Lake?” Supposedly this person has a poll showing a deat heat at 49%. And Fox is allegedly saying its to close to call. I’m wondering if there isn’t a setup here for a big cheat. Fake polls to set the expectations, and shady balloting to make it come true. So I’m wondering if any of our crack FR poll wizards know anything about the Celinda Lake poll that can discredit it.

She a Dem pollster who usually does a bipartisan poll for elections. This was basically the equivalent of a Barrett internal poll. She’s way off.

Fox has become pretty much worthless.

I still have her “we’ve got to do this together” quote from the Madison speech as my droid’s ringtone. Bittersweet every time I hear it. But still motivational

Barrett has warned that if Walker wins reelection he'll make Wisconsin a right-to-work state, something Walker has denied...

Why would Walker not pursue making Wisc. a right-to-work state? It seems like a natural progression.

Too much too soon?

Good thing O’Bummer didn’t show up. Seems every time he is somewhere to support a candidate, the unfortunate (stupid) candidate looses.........(poetic justice)

I know I’m out of town and cannot manage the ping list, but this news just lifted my heart this Sunday morning and inspired this ping. Carry on!

I’m still here and boy we were ecstatic when they apportioned him into retirement. I was at a meeting once where he spoke and compared conservatives to “the German Youth of the 30s.”
Of course NOTHING ever was said or published. Even the uber liberal woman I was with was aghast.

Good riddance.

BTW, The only thing that Scott Walker’s People will do is END the Deomoncratic money-laundering machine.

Yep. Near my old hometown. Hubby and his friend (who lives next town over from Binghamton) went to make trouble. :)

I heard Hinchey is “retiring”. Good - I wish we had term limits instead of voting these nasty people in for decades.

HA! Yes, It’s forbidden to call it “SUNY” anymore. Funny, I own some acreage in Candor - out in the boonies. It’s about an hour from where I live now, so we don’t get out there too often. Mostly just use it for hunting since I sold the old camper.

Another coincidence? I grew up in VA, and spent a couple of years living in VA Beach in my mid-20’s. BEFORE it turned crappy there - boy were those some fun times!
