LOS ANGELES (AP) — Richard Dawson, the wisecracking British entertainer who was among the schemers in the 1960s TV comedy "Hogan's Heroes" and a decade later began kissing thousands of female contestants as host of the game show "Family Feud" has died. He was 79.

Dawson, also known to TV fans as the Cockney prisoner-of-war Cpl. Peter Newkirk on "Hogan's Heroes," died Saturday night from complications related to esophageal cancer at Ronald Reagan Memorial Hospital, his son Gary said.

Didn’t he introduce Bob Crane to, John Carpenter, the pervert who would later kill him and leave his brain on his car?

RIP, Mr. Dawson. May your family find the Lord's comfort and peace in your passing. Truly he was a part of TV history, and played his parts well.

I’m sure he hated being in Ronald Reagan Hospital. Dawson was a big time liberal.

“Didn’t he introduce Bob Crane to, John Carpenter, the pervert who would later kill him and leave his brain on his car?”

If Carpenter is the guy I’m thinking of, it sure looked as if he killed Crane but nothing could be proven. In addition, JC, on his death bed was given a chance to come clean if he did murder Bob Crane and said he did not (FWIW).

I could be mistaken.

He was outstanding in Hogan's Heroes,Match Game and Family Feud.I love watching those Youtube videos of stupid game show answers...him asking an Air Force pilot “name one of the Three Bears” and the pilot says “Yogi”...great stuff.

One episode Newkirk was pulling a stint in the Stalag 13 “cooler” for some infraction. Of course the “Heroes” had a tunnel to the cell where Newkirk was being held.
LeBeau was bringing Newkirk his dinner (instead of the bread and water ration provided by the Germans) on a serving tray.

Newkirk took a look at what was on the tray and said:
“Say Lebeau (sic), do you think you could a bit easier on all the bernaise sauce?”

If that's true and assuming Dawson had no reason to think that Carpenter was a psychopath then he can't be held responsible. But if Dawson's anything like me he still would have felt really bad.

I agree. He was one hard-working guy until he retired, always with multiple projects going on and rarely taking a break. I loved the way he hosted Family Feud. He had a gracious and folksy manner - like the Johnny Carson of game show hosting. I remember when he became a US citizen and talked about it on the show with such happiness.

RIP, Richard Dawson.

The story is that Dawson intoduced Crane to Carpenter, who had the primitive video recording equipment that both guys used to record their sexual activity with numerous women.

Its a sick story with a sad ending for Bob Crane.

Dawson did well for himself in the game show field after the Hogans Heroes series.

Robert Clary, who played “The little cockroach”, LeBeau....who was the only cast member to survive being in a real Nazi Concentration Camp....most of the rest of the cast were Jews who had left Germany before the war.

The guy was a creep, so was Bob Crane, I couldn’t stand him, the way he flirted with wives and family members on Family Feud, good riddance, Let God sorted him out, or the devil for that matter. Perverts, the whole lot of them, Bob Crane reaped what he had sown.
