David Brooks Feels for Obama on PBS: 'You Have to Feel Sorry for Him'
News Busters.com ^ | June 3, 2012 | Tim Graham

On Friday's PBS NewsHour, both "conservative" David Brooks and liberal Mark Shields thought this was a tough, tight election for Barack Obama. Shields said "it becomes a race about disqualifying, a campaign about disqualifying your opponent. And that's not attractive or appealing. It's not hope and change. It's blood and guts."

But Brooks really felt Obama's pain: "So the president is obviously going to try. He is going to have. And to some extent, you have to feel sorry for him. This is in large degree not his fault. Things are happening way beyond his control. I don't believe a president has control over a quarterly economy in any case."  He added:

But the European situation is certainly not his fault. The Chinese slowdown is not his fault. And the Europe thing cannot be underestimated. There was a study by some economists this week that, say, Greece leaves the euro peacefully. Well, that reduces growth to our 1.7. Say it brings Spain and Italy, and it as much messier. Then it is even worse. Obama has really very little control and he's sort of a victim of this myth that presidents control the economy quarter to quarter.

At least Brooks didn't see the point of further "stimulus" spending: "listen, we are borrowing a trillion dollars a year, we're borrowing 40 cents on the dollar. Do we really think if we borrow a $1.1 trillion a year, somehow, that is going to magically transform the economy? I'm a little dubious."  So why not place some of the blame on Obama?

I’d rather give my pity to the American people who are paying for their ignorant mistake of electing Obama.

On NPR they regularly have EJ Dionne and David Brooks get together to discuss issues of the day. They basically agree on almost everything. The only real difference is in how they are introduced — Brooks is the “conservative” and EJ Dionne isn’t.

I’m starting to believe that the media hasn’t been on the Obama train because they believe in his socialism. I think they were, and will moreso be his drooling ‘fans’ solely because they can make themselves look good in the public eye. In other words, they used him as much as he used them.

Think about it for a sec. Like it or not the media creates ‘reality’. They pose a scenario, hype it to the hilt, make it into the ‘new normal’ and it is they who are there to tell the tale. It could be Obama in the white house oe Charles Manson. It really does not matter when the rubber hits the road.

“They” are always the center of attention. Look how many times Obama does something and the story is about what Chris Matthews said about it, rather than Obama’s actual whatever. In the case of this article, this moron made a totally asinine statement. Is it to take heat off O, or is it purely in his self interest to do so? People will talk about this for days and so his stock/marketability goes up.

And yes, he’s a drooling sycophant, but he has a reason to be. Check out the book “48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene for the details as to why. It will open your eyes to a lot of what is going on.

For once I agree with David Brooks. Yes, Davie-boy, it’s not Obama’s fault. It’s your fault and the fault of all the other feel-good white-guilters like you that this incompetent affirmative-action-promoted boob made it as far as he did.

Just like they all felt sorry for George Bush at the end of his first term. /S

They are all starting to make excuses that events are overwhelming Obama’s nobel efforts...never heard that said when GWB entered office and first had to face the post dot.com bust and then 9/11, etc.

Yep, let’s give him another chance, after all, he’s black and has been deprived his whole life...
________________________________________

It’s amazing to me that anyone thought he deserved a chance in the first place.
I recall approaching that fateful election, a friend of mine who was a high powered marketing/sales type was fighting her way through the interview jungle to land a job with good pay and benefits. She didn’t whine about someone owing her something and the companies she interviewed with would not hire her based on a sentimental desire to ‘give someone a chance’ - she had to bring it! Yet that same woman subtly chastised ME as racist for saying he lacked qualifications; ‘don’t you think you could just give him a chance?’. When I said ‘No’ she looked at me as if I were racist and unaware of it. Somehow, the Obama campaign made it racist not to choose the wild card with no achievements.

I read recently that talking heads have begun to say that Obama ran on ‘Hope’ last time and this time he’ll have to run on ‘fear’ because he lacks achievements. I’d say he’s running on ‘Pity’. Now we must pity him because ‘others’ robbed him of all those shining achievements he promised voters. ‘If voters don’t give him another chance, the racists will have won by falsely ‘portraying’ him as a failure after defeating his good deeds!’ The ‘race-card’ has no limits!
I’d like to see the ‘artist’ who created the HOPE picture create an equally concise one for PITY. Except, I like the NOPE campaign poster of him so much....

David Gergen perfected that years ago. And then of course there was Dan Rather’s favorite conservative, Kevin Phillips , who had one of the worst cases of Bush Derangement Syndrome known to man.

"I don't believe a president has control over a quarterly economy in any case."

Since when does a quarter last for three years. We are suffering through a FUBO economy.

Feel sorry for that under-worked, over-paid bum? Not a chance! I feel sorry for the country that’s got to endure his Marxism and arrogance the large part of another year.

Yeah, I feel real sorry for Barry..

“The Repubs can come along, but they’ll haeve to sit at the back of the bus.”

“I have a gift, Harry”.

“We won.”

“Eat your peas” (my personal favorite)

I could go on ‘cause I’m “fired up and ready to go” but I won’t.

David Brooks needs a few doggy downers. He is a goofball.

Beyond his control?

Who was it that went through the FEC donor records and terminated the dealerships of Republican contributors?

Who was it that sent out Sebilius to declar war on Catholics?

Who was it who had the EPA shutting down domestic production of coal and other fossil fuels.

Who was it who directred his media friends to try to destroy Sarah Palin.

Who is it who is pushing all the small hometown banks out in favor of the big ones that donate to him heavily.

Who is it who is making it impossible for small business startups to succeed.

Who is it who wants to tax the crap out of everyone.

...

if presidents can’t affect the economy... then how in hell is Bush to blame in the first place?

No joke. mr blame it all on someone else has to face reality at some time in his community organiz'in career. I am still at a amazed that this idjoit snuckered so many people to vote for him. BUT, that is due to the drive by media.
