There are two towers attached to the Parliament Building, which is collectively known as St. James Palace - the Clock Tower on one end with Big Ben and the Westminster Chimes. At the other end is the King's Tower, which is the Sovereign's Entry. The King's Tower was renamed Victoria Tower for Queen Victoria's Jubilee, so now they are renaming the Clock Tower to the Elizabeth Tower for her Jubilee.

London Historian's Blog - Victoria Tower has more details.

When I was in London last year, I learned that Big Ben is the bell itself. So, they are naming the tower tht holds Big Ben.

The whole royal family is nothing but glorifed welfare recipients. Why would anyone want to “congratulate” or celebrate that?

“Big Ben” has been re-named “Elizabeth Tower.”

An understandable error, since the BBC also got it wrong.

The tower was called just the Clock Tower, so never had its own name. "Big Ben" is the name of the largest bell inside the tower, so named after Benjamin Caunt, a famous heavyweight boxer of the 1850s.

So the old name will not be lost.

Wow! A still from Karigurashi no Arietti I believe.

A lovely, delicate anime, and based on an English original. But relevant to Big Ben how?

Why?
This is the woman who gave Rhodesia to the communists. Having the authority to veto any legislation she wishes, the Battenberg occupant, has seen fit to allow Britain to join the EUSSR and be over-run by Muslim immigrants.

You don’t think the Queen works for a living? Wow.

My hat’s off to any lady who at 86 still gets up in the morning and puts on pantyhose. Happy Jubilee, Lilibelle!

Yes, the Queen was a mechanic during WWII. Her family behaved bravely and honorably during that awful time.

I thought it was the 16th that made you a democracy and a republic. Another good reason to strike down income tax, lol.

I am no royalist, but they create more wealth than they receive. That said, I would prefer the British monarchy be like the European models and taxpayer monies restricted to a very small amount of royals.

She has the power to veto, but no monarch has done so since the Civil War. And to do so would create huge problems.

And again, for the 7,856,419 th time, the Muslim population (inc ‘native’ white and black converts) is 4%. 96% of the UK isnt Muslim.

That twit son of hers is in fact a highly intelligent, funny, charming man who will make a fine King one day.
Yes, I have met him.

The majority of the British public likes him, and has agreed with, for example, his attacks on modern architecture and how we have literally destroyed our finest buildings in the name of ‘progress’.

Americans like you seem to have a beef with him because of that silly dead bimbo he married OR because he has said he wants to ‘defend all faiths’, which has been stupidly interpretated as Charles therefore being a ‘dhimmi’, when he has publicly defended Christianity and Judaism on many occasions, and is simply against oppressive secularisation.

He is also very fond, btw, of your country and people.
