A man is in extremely critical condition after he led sheriff's deputies on a chase through Offutt Air Force and was shot by authorities.
Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said he believes an Offutt civilian officer shot the man as he was attempting to leave the base.
The identity of the man, who was taken by helicopter to Creighton University Medicval Center, was unknown, as was the name of the officer who shot him, Davis said.
Davis said deputies tried to pull over the man's blue Honda sedan on Highway 73-75 about 3:15 p.m. because they believed the car was stolen.
The driver sped away. Deputies pursued him to Offutt, where he drove in through the exit at Capehart Road and onto the base, Davis said.
The man tried to leave through the Fort Crook entrance, where he was shot, Davis said.
Davis wasn't sure how long the chase lasted or how fast the man was going.
Chalk another one up to "modern journalism".
He can blame it on writing too quickly.
All his base are belong to us and we wouldn’t release one for the story.

I concluded that the lieutenant colonel has an IQ somewhere around the temperature last week. (I was warm here, but not enough to get his IQ out of the imbecile range.)
One would think that a base that has been named after a World War I hero who lost his life in France for almost 100 years and which is the headquarters of US Strategic Command would be spelled correctly today as all it would take would be wondering about the little squiggly line underneath the misspelling. But as I noted above having an IQ of 80 makes one unlikely to even notice that line.
