China tells US to stop reporting Beijing's bad air

BEIJING (AP) — China told foreign embassies Tuesday to stop publishing their own reports on air quality in the country, escalating its objections to a popular U.S. Embassy Twitter feed that tracks pollution in smoggy Beijing.

Only the Chinese government is authorized to monitor and publish air quality information and data from other sources may not be standardized or rigorous, Wu Xiaoqing, a vice environmental minister, told reporters.

China has long taken issue with the U.S. Embassy's postings of hourly readings of Beijing's air quality on a Twitter feed with more than 19,000 followers since 2008. But its past objections were raised quietly.

U.S. Embassy officials did not immediately comment Tuesday, but the Twitter feed was operating normally. Its readings are based on a single monitoring station within embassy grounds, and pollution levels are rated according to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standard that is more stringent than the one used by the Chinese government.

Is it just me or if I was a nation would I just NOT care what the rest of the world thought of me all the time? The US, China, whoever else are all wringing their hands about their “standings” in the world. Just do the right thing and quit being a baby about what others say.

0bama administration tells MSM to stop reporting on the bad economy.

This is an historical recurring tactic used by totalitarian/fascist/communist governments. It is illegal and punishable as treason to report on bad news about the government’s policies.

I would think the air is temporarily US property while it is over Embassy soil, at least to a specific altitude. So it is US Smog.

Good name for a sports team - Los Angeles Smog, Seattle Smog, St. Louis Smog, Cincinnati Smog, Chicago Smog.

The problem with the latest Chinese and Russian directives, aimed at the U.S., is that they see Obama as week enough to cave on these issues.

An American LEADER, would tell China that “as long as they continue to place 2 dirty coal plants on line each week, the world is free to observe and report on the environmental impacts.”

If the Chicoms would stop all that farting, there’d be nothing to report.

That said, a similar problem has been noted around 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue beginning in January, 2009.

It seems that thriving Communiust Regiems are not the sparkling Green havens that the local enviro-mentalists believe them to be. America is one of the cleanist nations on earth, certainly it is the most enviromentaly mandated nation on earth. Every bit of business that is moved overseas means a drastic increase of polution for the planet.

I remember using fog lights in Tokyo during the day because the smog was so thick.

If China wants to set up a monitoring station in their embassy, I wouldn’t care what they published or how often. It could be a total pack of lies, and I would care less. Why does China care so much about our silly little data feed?
