Wisconsin GOP Senate leader Fitzgerald survives recall
WKBT News 8000 ^ | June 5, 2012

Veteran Senate Republican Leader Scott Fitzgerald has defeated Democrat Lori Compas in Tuesday's recall elections.

Democrats angry with Republican Gov. Scott Walker's contentious plan that all but ended most public workers' union rights forced the governor, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Fitzgerald and two other GOP senators into recalls. They also were trying to capture an open seat in Tuesday's elections.

Walker claimed he had to impose the union restrictions to balance the state budget. Democrats saw the moves as a direct attack on organized labor.

Compas, a Fort Atkinson photographer, has never held public office and faced a difficult fight against Fitzgerald. He has represented his southeastern Wisconsin district in the Senate for nearly two decades.

This is another big victory, as Fitzgerald shepherded Scott Walker’s reforms through the state Senate. Incidentally, his brother, Jeff Fitzgerald, is running for the U.S. Senate. IMHO, the results give his candidacy a shot of credibility.

How are the others who were recalled doing?

Hope the GOP can keep the majority so Walker can continue to reform Wisconsin!

How are the others who were recalled doing?

District 21 is still not yet called, with 22% of the precincts and with Wanggaard-R at 62%.

If this goes the way of the 'rat, the media will have its marching orders tomorrow: "RATS WIN BIG, BREAK WI REPUBLICAN SENATE", on top of all the stories of a Walker win.

This is GREAT news. The libs wanted this seat nearly as much as they wanted the governor’s.

Now I’m happy, so I’ll just sit here being happy!

Ticks me off that they always refer to collective bargaining “rights”. They are NOT rights. That dimwit Shep Smith called them rights earlier today. Grrr.

3 of 4 Senators have been won, none of 3 races were close.

Only race out is the one we’re worried about, Van Wanggaard.

He’s up big but only 22% of the vote in according to this

Come on now, let me go to bed happy.
